Chapter 84: I Saw Everything

The robber who’d been sneakily hiding in a tree just watched, but when Doren entered his sight, he drew his bowstring. The shot arrow lodged in Doren’s butt.

"Hyaang!"

Making a strange sound and jolting his body, Doren disappeared into darkness and bushes at tremendous speed like a bull with its tail on fire. He was lucky.

"Guhk."

And the robber who’d accurately aimed while drawing the bowstring and hit Doren had to pay the price. Rowan’s arrow lodged precisely in his throat. The robber who huddled against the wall with trembling hands holding the arrow confirmed the arrow had completely penetrated his throat, and soon burst into tears and snot while his whole body turned red hot.

While sobbing, he felt suffocation coming. Bloody foam flowed from his mouth. Terrible death approached him slowly and gradually. His limbs tingled, and he momentarily felt the pressure of his whole body shrinking.

Pain? The scream from holding his breath was vicious. One robber died helplessly.

Crossbowman Bedri wasn’t doing anything. He just fiddled with his crossbow while hiding his body in a tree. Because he didn’t judge that his body was safe, he just hid and turned his head this way and that. Without sticking his head out and just turning his head this way and that, there was no way he could spot enemies.

As soon as Rowan caught one robber throwing projectiles with his bow, he went out to capture. Absurdly, he shot aiming for the side but hit the throat. Because Rowan was in a somewhat higher place. He was also quite tense.

It was the first time attacking from behind in darkness, and this was Rowan’s first time attacking toward multiple people in the first place.

As soon as Rowan approached first and the robbers used up all their projectiles, they picked up close-range weapons. Holding thick clubs that were hard to cut in one blow even with a longsword, most had wooden shields or bare hands. True to a robber gang that had played in these surroundings with many trees, not one held a spear.

The robbers’ target was Large Shield Espin. Because his location was most clearly known.

"You’re dead! You bastard!"

Among the robbers running while using trees for cover, the robber closest to Espin shouted. Espin wanted to run away backward, but he was afraid of getting hit by arrows. He had a large shield, but because he’d never directly faced arrows, his feet were frozen solid.

Bearded Doren tried to pull out the arrow stuck in his butt, but his arms couldn’t grasp with strength, so it was impossible. It stung every time he touched it. In the end, he waited face-down for the situation to end. He gave up easily.

From behind, Rowan struck each robber’s back of the head with his shield one by one. The robbers hit by the shield with his weight behind it couldn’t come to their senses and fell without even breathing once.

He took away their weapons and threw them far away. Then he cut their thick thighs with his shortsword to a degree that wouldn’t damage tendons. Perhaps because they couldn’t come to their senses, it was normal that they didn’t scream even when their thighs were cut.

When he’d handled one guy, two guys, up to three guys, Espin and the last remaining robber were roughly engaging in close combat.

"Uaaak!"

The robber shouted and swung the club held in both hands this way and that like he was possessed. The reason he was so brave was because there were many robber comrades behind him. Of course, he didn’t know Rowan was handling them one by one.

Espin was stubbornly enduring while blocking with his shield.

Seeing that, Rowan shouted.

"Just charge with your shield!"

"Kyaaaa!!"

As if under a spell, Espin threw his whole body and covered the robber. The edge of the square shield hit his jaw and the robber hit by the shield bounced backward and rolled once. There was a big difference in weight class, but Espin had stupidly just been taking hits.

Rowan lightly stabbed the throat with his shortsword.

"Heeup..."

"Drop your weapon."

"Y-yes. Yes..."

The situation ended.

"Espin! Find vines and tie these bastards up."

Kicking weapons away, Rowan said. Only then did Doren scream shrilly.

"I got hit by an arrow! Help me!"

Bedri quickly got up and looked for vines. Espin and Bedri each looked for fallen guys and tied them up one by one, gathering them in one place, and as soon as they faced each other, Espin twisted his face and said in a low voice.

"You son of a bitch, hiding alone like that? Are you really crazy? The bastard who was ahead of me... I saw everything. You son of a bitch. You bastard. You... huu!"

Espin cut off his own words. He wasn’t the boss here. Rowan would judge. Bedri opened his mouth.

"I..."

Espin just turned his body. If he heard his excuses, he might swing his fist. He found vines, roughly rubbed them with both hands to thin them, then mixed several strands to make them strong. And he wound around arms, forearms, and upper body. He tied them so tight it was severe.

His heart was still pounding. Fear was great, and next was the sense of betrayal toward Crossbowman Bedri. Though he’d lived like a thug stealing others’ money, that’s why brotherhood was clearer than anyone for Espin.

When a comrade was facing the enemy, just hiding gave an enormous sense of betrayal.

While Espin and Bedri found robbers and tied them with vine rope, Rowan was examining Doren’s arrow.

’It went in pretty deep.’

It was an arrow that went in when he wasn’t tensing his butt because he thought the enemy couldn’t find him. There was sufficient reason for it to go in deep.

"If I treat you now, you’ll bleed too much, so stay like this."

Rowan immediately gathered firewood from outside and lit a fire. Doren’s whole body was covered in sweat. When excitement settled, only pain remained.

"E-even moving a little hurts too much."

"Yes. Stay still."

Rowan said that while heating a throwing dagger once and pouring some boiled water from his leather pouch to cool it.

Sizzle!

When steam rose, Doren swallowed unconsciously.

"Wh-what are you trying to do?"

"Treatment."

Doren’s eyes shook greatly. Because he had his back to the campfire, he didn’t know what Rowan was doing.
