Chapter 79: Chapter 66: Iris

In a large world similar to earth, a terrifying sight loomed. Eight enormous, ebony wings enshrouded the planet, before they slowly moved towards a single figure.

A woman’s anguished cries pierced through the air as she clutched her head, black tears streaking down her face. Her body was engulfed by an ominous, dark matter that pulsed with tortured faces, each one contorted in agony before being consumed by the sinister substance.

The colossal wings relinquished their hold on the world, instead enveloping the girl with their ominous presence. Two smaller wings sprouted from her head, and six more from her back, each with countless, maniacal mouths that chattered and giggled incessantly.

"SHUT UP!!" The girl screamed, and the wings ceased their raucous laughter.

The girl watched helplessly as the black matter seeped deeper into her body, bearing witness to the anguished faces of the souls trapped within it and being devoured by the black matter.

"It hurts, please stop, please stop, I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore!!" She yelled out loud and caused the earth to tremble. Suddenly, countless large purple chains wrapped around her body tightly, and she screamed in pain, but after a few seconds the pain subsided, and she looked at her brown skin to see her original body was back. The black matter around her as well was also disappearing, as though it were purified by the faint purple light.

"Arghh," She screamed, "Why, why, why?"

"Why can’t Iris remember anyone’s faces?" Iris asked herself, her eyes widening in horror.

"Father, who was my father? Who were my friends? Why was Iris born?" Iris asked herself, her purple eyes looking completely dead and empty, and small black lines could be seen taking over her purple pupils. The girl didn’t look older than 18 and her skin was smooth and bright, but her face was filled with so many emotions at once that she didn’t know how to feel.

"It’s all because of it," Iris touched the small gem on her heart, and yelled, "Get this off!!" She scratched her chest furiously, but no matter what she did, she couldn’t scrape it off her skin nor injure herself.

They then summoned a scythe into her hand and tried to stab it, but to no avail nothing happened except the ground behind her that was destroyed by her attack.

"It’s impossible master, the gem is attached to your soul, so it can never be removed," Kaguya explained, but the girl continued to weep. He regarded her with gentle, crimson eyes before shutting them.

"Get this fucking gem off me please, Kaguya," Iris clenched her chest as her eyes continued to tremble.

"Master, please calm down this nothing to cry about it’s an achievement," a seductive voice chimed in, but the girl glared at the speaker in fury.

"What!!..... An achievement?" Iris got up from the ground and walked up to the fair woman. "All my friends died, my family is dead, everyone in the world is dead. And Alka you call it achievement!!!" She seethed, and the wings sprang to life once more, their myriad mouths grinning with glee.

Alka nervously looked at Iris with her golden eyes and gulped, "You became a goddess, isn’t that great?"

"A goddess? Iris doesn’t care about that. I want to go back, I want to go back to the time we were all happy, if I had obeyed my father’s orders properly, none of this would have happened!" The girl slammed her foot into the ground, causing the earth to shatter around her. Alka lifted the girl into her arms, and they took to the sky, Kaguya following close behind. The surrounding ground beneath them crumbled into dust, swallowing entire buildings in its wake.

Alka landed on fresh soil, but it was no different from the rest, blackened and barren, devoid of life.

Tears streamed down Iris’ face as she spoke, her voice quivering with anguish. "You see, when Iris does little things, everything is destroyed. Darkness consumes all that is in my wake. Iris is nothing but destruction itself," she cried, her words laced with agony. Alka dropped her down, her eyes filled with sorrow and concern. But Iris’ pain was too great for comfort.

"It’s all Iris’ fault, if Iris listened if, Iris just listened if I had just abandoned my emotions I wouldn’t have ended up this way!!" Iris yelled as she remembered that she couldn’t control her anger when she watched a blue-haired man kill one of the most important people in the world before her. Now two of the most important people, whom she remembered holding her hands as a child, were gone.

"It’s not your fault, master," Alka patted Iris and tried to console her.

"It’s not Iris’ fault that Iris became a monster?" Iris asked her eyes blazing with a terrifying intensity, and Alka flinched.

"You’re not a monster," Alka said.

Iris grabbed Alka by the collar of her dress and pulled her closer. Alka’s purple and black pearl-shaped pupils stared at Iris’ purple and black Diamond pupils, "Look at me and tell if I’m truly not a monster," Iris said, her wings twitching uncontrollably and they started to giggle once more. Despite Iris appearing normal, Alka could see more than that.

’She’s filled with death,’ Alka could see the truth of Iris’ words. She was filled with death, surrounded by five towering black skulls and spectral monsters. A dark aura hung over her like a shroud, making Alka pale with fear. But she tried to remain calm, to offer some small comfort to her master.

Iris pursed her lips and could see Alka’s eyes waver. She clenched her back tightly and frowned, "In these wings of mine, I hear painful screams of these souls, please make them stop," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion, "I can’t stand them!! If I could just die, everything wouldn’t have ended up this way. If only I wasn’t born. I have no purpose!!" Iris smiled maniacally to herself as tears streamed down her face.

"I guess I’m truly a monster like everyone said I was. A creature so vile and despicable that even I cannot deny it," Iris said, her lips curving into a twisted grin.

"Master," Alka reached out a hand, but quickly withdrew it, sensing the depths of Iris’ emotional pain, ’I didn’t think she would get affected this much.’

"Yes, you are a monster, and whose fault is that, none other than yourself! Everyone is already dead! It’s better you just accept your current self." Kaguya spat at her, his voice laced with anger. "This was the only way for you to grow stronger."

Iris turned to him, a manic gleam in her eye. "But I am a goddess, am I not? I can bring them back, reverse time, make everything right again! I can bring everyone back!" Her voice rose with excitement as she stood up.

"That’s impossible," Kaguya shook his head, You’ve already devoured everyone’s souls, so even if you reverse time they won’t." He revealed and Iris looked at him bewildered.

"No no no, it’s all because of this gem," Iris’ expression darkened, and she clutched at the gem on her chest. "Who placed this cursed object on me? Who placed it on me? Who? Who? Who? I’ll kill them, I’ll kill, I’LL KILL THEM!!!" Iris yelled as her dark aura began to flare. Alka stared at Iris nervously, but Kaguya didn’t flinch.

Kaguya spoke up, interrupting Iris’ rage. "I have a theory. Your real mother may have placed the gem on you."

Iris’ aura subsided and she froze, an image of a blurry woman flashing through her mind. "My real mother," she whispered, lost in thought.

"Yes, I remember there were three of us," Iris looked at her fingers and remembered two blurry figures of two baby girls in a crib smiling at her, "I have two sisters, my purpose. I have a new purpose!!"

"I want to find my sisters and protect them, then I’ll kill my mother!!" Iris beamed.

"Iris.." Alka called out to her in a worried tone, but Iris didn’t seem to hear her. "Wasn’t she just crying a few seconds ago?" She mumbled to herself and sighed.

"Her mind is highly unstable, so leave her be," Kaguya said and Alka nodded in agreement.

"I can see she’s slowly losing her memories," Kaguya added as he stared at Iris who was happily laughing, "I have a new purpose hahahaha." Seeing her smile he smiled lightly and Alka nudged him on the shoulder with a mug expression.

"Alka we’re leaving this place!" Iris declared.

"And who says you’re allowed to leave?" A sudden large voice boomed, and a large person landed on the earth. Before Iris was a large brown-skinned woman with six arms. She had short flaming her like the sun, and so we’re her eyes of the same color. She looked at Iris cautiously but seeing the destruction around she turned furious.

"And who might you be?" Iris asked, a bit annoyed.

"As the goddess of this world, who just returned, you’re going to pay the price for destroying my creations!!" The woman who was over a thousand feet tall yelled.

"A goddess?" Iris mumbled dully undeterred. "No god or goddess is going to stop me from achieving my newfound purpose!! So please step out of the way if you want to avoid dying." Iris threatened as a ball of dark energy formed around her fingers.

The goddess glared at Iris, her six palms crackling with divine energy that burned like the searing sun. With a flick of her wrist, she launched all six at Iris, aiming to crush her where she stood. But as the attack drew near, Iris merely looked at the goddess with a hollow gaze and murmured a single word, "Black Hole."

In an instant, the dark energy coalesced into a massive black hole that threatened to consume everything in its path. The goddess trembled in fear, her divine powers unable to stop the destructive force before her. She quickly dodged the attack, appearing in another location in space, her laughter tinged with nervousness, "This is crazy!"

As the black hole slowly dissipated, it left in its wake the destruction of half a planet. Iris stood amidst the devastation, her eyes gleaming with a fierce determination. "No one shall ever stop me from my purpose. Not even the gods themselves. For I have two sisters waiting for me," she spoke icily, her words laced with a dark, emotional fervor.
