Chapter 77: Chapter 64: Kasuki and Keira

____________

Deep within the confines of a dungeon enveloped in darkness, a young man with flaming crimson locks could be seen moving with stealth and caution, weaving his way through the treacherous corridors. He treaded carefully, ensuring that he avoided the menacing creatures and the tangled webs that littered the area.

Suddenly, he stumbled upon an open door situated at the far end of the room and enters. On one side of the room, a small pool of water glistened, while on the other side stood a sturdy, wooden chest, accompanied by a rusty sword dangling from a hook.

The room was empty, except for himself and the chest. There is only one way out of this room: the door at the far end.

He observed the area keenly, scanning the water with scrutiny before diving in. The icy coldness of the water gripped his body, leaving him trembling and paralyzed. But he was determined to succeed, his body emitted a bright red flame which covered him so now he could move more easily in the water.

Upon reaching the chest, he inspected the sword, recognizing its value despite its worn-out appearance, before turning his attention to the chest itself. It was a formidable piece of craftsmanship, and so he tapped it with his fingers and it entered into a ring on his finger. He then retrieved the sword and made his way out of the room through the entrance he came from.

After navigating through various paths, he finally emerged in a city-like chamber that housed a false sun in the sky. He walked towards the main square, where a colossal black tree stood, towering over the surrounding buildings. The air was suffused with the fragrance of blooming flowers, but the ambiance was far from tranquil. Everyone’s face was filled with fear and the boy stared at those who had recently lost some body parts in battle, but he immediately ignored them and arrived at a dingy tavern

The tavern was a rudimentary brick building, with a red-tiled roof and vines snaking their way around the walls and roof. The exterior was forbidding and dull, constructed of rough wooden planks and stone walls. The windows were clouded and hazy, and there was an eerie stillness and lack of life from within.

As he pushed open the metal door, the young man was greeted by an oppressive silence and a room filled with watchful eyes. The bartender was cleaning a glass with a stained cloth, though it’s not getting cleaner, making no effort to acknowledge his presence.

The inside was as dreary as the outside, with squared wooden beams supporting the upper floor, and the only source of illumination being the floating orbs of light that cast a faint glow across the room. The walls were laced with deep cuts and draped with cobwebs, evoking an ominous aura.

The tavern itself was almost completely deserted, with only a few individuals occupying the space. They looked haggard and defeated, some with missing body parts, while others appeared to be in a state of distress, being consoled by their comrades. The young man reached up to his face, his fingers touching the spot where his left eye used to be now empty and hollow. He spotted an older hazel-skinned teenage boy and a girl sitting beside him as they waved at him.

Kasuki sat beside Mina, his ruby eye gleaming with a warmth.

"Kasuki how are the dungeons so far?" Mina inquired, her voice betraying the anxiety that gripped her heart.

"Well, so far so good, Mina," Kasuki replied with a thumbs up. "I don’t think there are any more hiding monsters, so we can advance forward." Beside them, the hazel-skinned boy let out a dry sigh.

"So we would leave this place?" he asked, his tone filled with resignation.

Kasuki looked at him nervously and nodded. "Do you want to live here, Zekiel?" Mina asked, to which Zekiel shook his head. "No..."

Mina’s countenance brightened. "Then we must advance forward through this dungeon if we want to leave!"

Zekiel, however, was skeptical. "Is it even possible?" he asked, his voice laced with despair. "We’ve been stuck here for four years, ever since we were sixteen years old. Now we’ll all be twenty this year."

Mina’s eyes gleamed with determination. "But isn’t it good that we have survived for so long? Even finding this place was a miracle. Despite that, I don’t want to continue staying here. I want to get to the outside world and make that king and his people pay. They summoned us from another world without our permission, and forcefully placed the title of heroes on us, and sent Kasuki here. I’m going to make those bastards pay for hurting my brother!" she exclaimed, her voice brimming with anger

Kasuki giggled at her fiery spirit. "Calm down, Mina. Don’t worry, I’m glad that both you and Zekiel are still alive," he said, patting her on the head. She beamed in response.

"Now then let’s go!" Zekiel yelled as he picked up his broad sword.

"Those kids are walking to their deaths," sneered an old voice. But Kasuki, Mina, and Zekiel paid no heed as they walked on, their hearts set on freedom and vengeance.

After a while of traversing through numerous halls, they finally came upon a door made of gold, with double-sided golden bolts. Kasuki pushed open the door, and they walked inside slowly. As soon as they all entered, the doors closed behind them, and the room was slowly illuminated by torches that lit themselves up.

Kasuki braced himself for whatever creature was about to appear, but he was interrupted by the announcement that appeared before him on a red screen, "This is crazy!" he exclaimed, staring nervously at the screen before him.

"What is crazy, Kazuki?" Zekiel asked, raising an eyebrow.

"For someone to reach such a level at such a young age is truly strange," a seductive chocolate-skinned woman appeared next to Mina and smiled at Kasuki. Mina slapped the woman’s hand on her and huffed as she watched the woman clinging to her brother with disdain.

"Vanita I don’t get what you mean?" Kasuki asked, a bit confused.

"I mean, it’s abnormal, even for a genius. You have to get stronger faster," She advised.

"Why?"

"I know one thing for sure is that the Black Diamond is the enemy of all other Diamonds," She said with a serious expression and Kasuki shuddered, "This means if she’s an enemy she would come for your head one day."

But before Kasuki would ask any more questions, the room suddenly erupted into chaos. The once-stable ground shattered and a pool of fiery lava erupted beneath their feet. The air was filled with the stench of burning rock and sulfur, and the heat was suffocating, and the surrounding floors turned into a pool of lava. From the molten depths emerged a monstrous serpent, its scales as black as obsidian. It hissed at them and thousands of eyes appeared around its body.

In a flash, everyone drew their weapons, ready to face the creature. Everyone except Vanita, who remained perched on the ceiling, watching the scene unfold with a detached air.

__________

The ship cut through the calm waters of the open sea, its ominous black flag, bearing the image of a skeletal head and two menacing scythes, billowing in the salty breeze. On deck, a group of refined-looking people engaged in games and songs, their boisterous laughter piercing the serene atmosphere.

Amidst the revelry, a young girl of brown complexion descended to the deck, her short, fluffy, orange hair shimmering like precious crystals in the sun. Her eyes were a striking orange hue, reminiscent of a rare gemstone. She settled into a comfortable lazy chair and savored the gentle, warm sea breeze.

Suddenly, a fair-skinned girl with fish-like ears scrunched up her face and sniffed the air, her gaze fixated on the sea currents.

"Turns the ship 80 degrees, a flying current is approaching!!" she barked, setting off a flurry of activity among the crew, as they scrambled to adjust the ship’s heading.

In no time, the sky grew ominously dark, and the winds roared like a wrathful beast. The ship pitched and rolled. Large pools of water gathered around the surrounding seas, and the waters floated into the skies and back into the sea like jumping fishes. The orange-haired girl was thrown off her seat, jolting awake.

"What’s happening?" She yelled an octopus-haired boy told her, "Captain Keira, we encountered a flying sea current!"

"Damn when I was just getting a good sleep too," Keira let out a frustrated groan as she retrieved her scythe. "I haven’t been able to get a decent night’s rest because of those damn marines chasing us," she muttered.

"Captain please can you stop whining and help us get out of the precarious situation?" the mermaid girl implored, her face a mask of urgency which immediately turned scary seeing Keira try to sleep again.

Keira stared at her navigator’s angry expression and shuddered.

Keira then jumped to the front of the ship and raised her scythe high and with a fierce slash, parted the storm clouds, making a small portion of the storm clear away.

"Quickly, steer the ship in that direction!" the mermaid girl shouted, directing the middle-aged man at the helm who nodded and steered the ship out of the storm.

"It’s finally over," the octopus-haired boy sighed in relief, but Keira didn’t budge from her position.

"It’s not over yet," Keira said with a frown.

All of a sudden, a giant octopus, which was as big as a mountain, appeared before them and growled fiercely.

"A Kraken? But they mostly lurk, at the bottom of the ocean, meow. It was probably brought here by the flying current," a cat woman exclaimed, adjusting her glasses as she stared at it, "It is covered with spines that it uses to protect itself and its tentacles when it moves through the water. The creature’s teeth are sharp enough to penetrate your body; if you come into contact with it, you will be instantly wounded. Meow."

"Thanks for the info, Mebow," Keira smiled excitedly as she got into a stance and readied her scythe.

The Kraken lunged at her with its long, sinewy tentacles, but Keira was quick to strike back, her scythe glowing with an otherworldly orange light. She sliced off several of the monster’s tentacles, but one hidden appendage coiled around her, squeezing her tightly. She wriggled out of the grip, cutting off the offending tentacle.

"Fivour, lend me your strength," Keira whispered, summoning a being with a jester’s face from her scythe. Her own expression morphed into that of a crazed maniac, and she charged the monster, unleashing a barrage of slashes with her scythe, and so did the being with its scythe, before she landed back on the deck of her ship. The Kraken quivered and split into two, its massive bulk sinking slowly into the depths.

"Collect the meat. We shall not let it go to waste!" the octopus-haired boy ordered, and the crew set about hauling in the cut off Kraken tentacles with a net.

Keira’s eyes flickered with amusement as she gazed at the orange screen before her. "I’d be damned," she muttered under her breath, relishing the thrill of danger.

A young man with hair ablaze like a raging inferno interrupted her reverie, his voice laced with concern as he appeared before Keira from thin air, "Master, you can’t keep fooling around. We must take your training seriously."

Keira scowled at the interruption, her lips forming a thin line. "No way, why should I?" she retorted, her tone edged with defiance.

"The Black Diamond could come for you," the young man warned, his voice tinged with anxiety.

"Does she think I’m hot?" Keira asked.

"I highly doubt that," the young man responded with a flat expression, unimpressed by her attempts at humor.

Keira laughed, a dark and eerie sound that echoed through the ship. "If not, then don’t worry. I get a headache thinking about all these Diamond stuff."

"You can’t run away from it!" the young man protested, his tone growing more insistent.

Keira’s eyes blazed with defiance as she faced him head-on. "I don’t care. You should know that much about me by now, silly," she snarled, her voice heavy with emotion. For Keira, the thrill of the chase and the allure of danger were far more compelling than the mundane reality of training. She was a pirate, after all – rules and expectations were made to be broken.
