Chapter 69: Trouble!

She had to lock up these peach pastries properly for her grandson to enjoy when he came back. She couldn’t let those gluttonous girls at home steal them.

"Thank you, Auntie," Su Yijia hurriedly expressed her gratitude.

However, as she watched the old woman’s figure disappear into the house, she couldn’t help but frown with worry. Although she had found a reason to go to the old professor’s house, she was still unsure when those outsiders would target the old professor. Right now, she was just going to check things out and see if she could get closer to the situation. But if those people were too vigilant...

The more Su Yijia thought about it, the more anxious she became, feeling like she was going bald from the stress.

However, the old woman didn’t give her much time to dwell on her thoughts. She hurriedly returned from the house.

"Let’s go, young lady."

Su Yijia quickly followed behind.

After walking for more than ten minutes, they finally arrived at the house made of blue bricks. The door was wide open, and there was no one in sight. The atmosphere was eerily quiet, with no sounds except for a slightly heavy scent of blood in the air.

Su Yijia’s expression changed immediately, and she could hear the old woman next to her screaming in fear.

"Ah ah ah! The dog is dead!" she pointed towards a corner of the yard.

A robust big yellow dog lay there, a pool of blood beneath it. There was also a longer drag mark, clearly indicating that it had been kicked aside by someone. Su Yijia had sharp eyes and immediately noticed a circular wound on the dog’s body, less than a centimeter in diameter.

Without hesitation, she pulled the old woman behind her.

"Run! Let’s get out of here!"

From the amount of blood, it was clear that the dog had died not long ago. However, it was already too late to escape.

Three men emerged from the main room, holding weapons and pointing them at Su Yijia and the old woman.

"Stand still and behave!"

Su Yijia stared at the dark muzzles, tightly biting her lips. One of these men was the same person who had searched her bag at the State-Owned Restaurant last time. He clearly hadn’t expected to see her here. After a moment of surprise, he smirked menacingly.

"Didn’t expect you to have such guts, coming here to your own doom!"

His weapon was still aimed at Su Yijia as he took a piece of hemp rope from one of his companions and proceeded to tightly bind her.

"What did you say? Who are you?" Su Yijia pretended to look genuinely frightened, trembling all over.

Although her acting was convincing, it was clear that the man didn’t believe her.

"Don’t give me the ’everything is just a coincidence’ act! If you weren’t skilled, those two idiots who were following you would have dealt with you by now. That alone shows you’re not ordinary!" The man’s weapon, ice-cold in his hand, slapped her face forcefully.

The old woman stared in disbelief, looking at Su Yijia.

She began to grasp what was happening yet couldn’t fully comprehend it. She was clearly an innocent victim and wanted to curse at them but didn’t dare to speak.

Su Yijia’s eyes welled up with tears, "I really don’t know what you’re talking about! I came here to buy an old mother chicken! Besides, it was this lady who brought me here, not my choice to come to this place."

"Then why did you hand over what we had worked so hard to obtain? Don’t tell me I’ve wronged you?" The man clenched his teeth, and his slightly narrowed eyes were filled with intense murderous intent.

But Su Yijia remained innocent, "I suddenly found something extra in my bag, something I didn’t quite understand, so I asked the people nearby for help. They thought it was important and wanted to take it. Should I have stopped them?"

"At first, you hadn’t gone anywhere, and I was following you closely. I never found anything in your bag, so how do you explain that?" The man still couldn’t figure out why. He had been following her when the person delivering the item realized they were being followed. To ensure the safety of the item and himself, he secretly borrowed her shoulder bag.

However, he had been watching her the whole time and saw that she hadn’t gone anywhere or interacted with anyone, yet there was nothing in her bag.

"My bag has a thick partition; maybe you got it wrong," Su Yijia lied with wide-open eyes.

"Is that so? Then let me see where this bag has a partition." The man reached out to grab her shoulder bag.
