Chapter 412: Is She Really Pregnant?

Su Yijia and Qin Kaize were squeezed to one side by the elderly, so they had to go to the kitchen and bring out the prepared dishes.

"By the way, how is Yu Tianqin doing?" Su Yijia asked curiously while heating the soup.

"Are you worried about your medicine?" Qin Kaize teased, glancing at her sideways.

Su Yijia looked at him suspiciously, then explained, "Not really. I just want to check on my patient. He’s still at the farm, and I’m afraid the farm manager will see him doing better and pressure him to return to work."

"Don’t worry; he’s feeling much better. Those folks are shocked and suspect you’ve given him some miraculous medicine," Qin Kaize replied, smiling as he recalled their nervous inquiries.

Even if they thought it was a miracle drug, it didn’t matter. Jiajia had submitted the prescription long ago, and it wouldn’t cause any issues if others found out. As for the farm manager, they wouldn’t bother Grandpa Yu before the New Year. They’d all assumed Yu Tianqin was beyond saving and were just waiting for the news of his death. No one wanted to stir up bad luck so close to the New Year. If they did pressure him, it would have to wait until after the holiday when Yu Tianqin would already be well.

Once they set all the dishes on the table—eight dishes and a soup, enough to feel like a festive celebration—Grandpa Xia and Grandma Zhou were taken aback by how long it had been since they’d had such a lavish meal.

"I wonder how your uncle is doing abroad," Grandma Zhou sighed.

Qin Kaize paused while serving her soup. "He’s doing fine. Our Xia family is smart; he’ll be just fine."

"He was only fifteen when he went abroad with so much money. I worry..." Grandma Zhou trailed off.

"Enough. Children have their own destinies, and we don’t need to worry too much. We’ll wait until travel restrictions are lifted and ask someone to look for him then," Grandpa Xia interrupted, not wanting her to continue on such a downbeat note.

"Right, let’s eat!" Grandma Zhou quickly wiped away a tear and smiled, grabbing a piece of lamb and placing it in Su Yijia’s bowl. "Jiajia, thank you so much for helping Old Yu’s family. If it weren’t for you, they wouldn’t have a good New Year."

"It was nothing. I just checked in on them. After this tough patch, their lives will definitely get better," Su Yijia reassured, thinking that Grandpa Yu was actually quite a good person—honest and understanding.

Soon, she picked up a piece of meat and brought it to her mouth. However, just as she was about to eat, a wave of nausea hit her, and she gagged uncontrollably. Covering her mouth, she glanced apologetically at everyone around the table.

"Can’t handle the lamb? It can be pretty strong. How about some red-braised pork instead?" Grandma Zhou suggested, quickly grabbing a piece of beautifully glazed pork for her.

With a flushed face, Su Yijia smiled and attempted to eat the red-braised pork to ease the awkwardness, but as soon as she swallowed it, another wave of nausea hit her. Unable to hold it back, she rushed to the restroom.

Qin Kaize’s expression tightened with worry, and he hurriedly followed her.

"Jiajia, are you okay?" he asked gently, standing behind her and patting her back.

As soon as Su Yijia opened her mouth, she gagged again. After managing to calm herself, she stood up slowly, and Qin Kaize rushed to support her.

At the sink, he filled a cup with water for her. She didn’t wait for him to hand it to her and quickly took it to rinse her mouth. After several rinses, she leaned weakly against Qin Kaize.

His large hand comfortingly rubbed her back. Once she caught her breath, he asked, "Jiajia, you’re not pregnant, are you?"

"Impossible!" Su Yijia shot him a glare. "Didn’t I just have my period last week? You remember that, right? Even if I were pregnant, I wouldn’t start morning sickness this soon."

"It usually takes six to seven days, but last time it was only three days and just a little spotting. That was pretty abnormal," Qin Kaize reminded her.

"But even if it was short, it still counted," Su Yijia murmured softly, feeling a bit confused.

Plus, she had checked her pulse and didn’t feel any signs of pregnancy.

She decided to check her pulse again. To her shock, the rhythm felt slippery and rapid, causing her pupils to dilate in surprise. Her round, bright eyes widened like copper bells.

"Well?" Qin Kaize asked, visibly tense.

Su Yijia, with a stiff expression, looked at him, trying not to laugh. "That was not period blood; it seems like your little one might have gotten hurt."

Qin Kaize froze in place. His initial joy was instantly overshadowed by anxiety and fear.

"Don’t move! We’re going to the hospital and have the doctor check you thoroughly," he insisted urgently.

"Actually, it’s not necessary to go through all that. When I checked my pulse earlier, I didn’t find anything wrong," Su Yijia tried to explain.

But Qin Kaize shook his head in disapproval. "This kind of thing needs to be checked more thoroughly. Just trust me; let’s go."

Taking a deep breath, he prepared to lift her, but she quickly pressed down on his hand. "Don’t overreact! I’m fine. There’s no need to carry me. I can walk normally."

Qin Kaize bit his lip, looking at her. Seeing her stubbornness, he didn’t press further and carefully supported her arm instead.
