Chapter 329: His Wife Always Has Good Luck

To others, this spot might seem indistinguishable from any other. But Su Yijia didn’t know why, as soon as she looked, she felt drawn to it and wanted to get closer.

"Do you know how to cast a net? Should I demonstrate it first?" Qin Kaize asked softly, sorting out the fishing net beside him.

"Yes!" Su Yijia nodded eagerly. She had only ever fished with a rod and had never done anything as professional as casting a net.

Qin Kaize stood up, planted his legs firmly on the deck, twisted his waist, and with a flick of his wrists, the net spread out like a blooming flower before falling into the sea.

"Make sure to stand firm and use your waist strength," Qin Kaize advised, patting her at the waist. He knew that using the hips would be better, but he worried that the young girl might lose her balance and fall into the sea.

"Okay, I understand." Su Yijia nodded with anticipation and pointed to another net nearby. "Can I cast this one on the other side?"

Although she had never cast a net before, she had some basic knowledge. Nets couldn’t be pulled in immediately; it took at least forty minutes to see results, and they wouldn’t catch much. But since they only needed enough for a couple of dishes, that was fine.

"Sure, I’ll join you." Qin Kaize tied the net rope to the side of the boat and picked up the other net. He went around to the other side of the small fishing boat, helping her stabilize her footing by holding onto her legs.

Su Yijia adjusted her stance, did a few preparatory movements, and then quickly and forcefully cast the net.

Despite her efforts to stay steady, she wobbled and almost fell overboard. Luckily, Qin Kaize’s firm grip kept her from falling into the water.

The sensation of slipping and almost falling scared her, and her little heart raced.

"Don’t be afraid, I’m here," Qin Kaize said softly, patting her chest to comfort her.

"I almost got scared to death, thinking I’d have to catch fish with my bare hands," Su Yijia said, turning in his arms and burying her face against his waist.

Uncle Lian peeked over, saw the affectionate couple hugging, and quickly withdrew his head.

Back in his younger days, his feelings for his wife were not any less than Qin Kaize’s for his wife. He helped Su Yijia sit on the edge of the boat, and she took off her shoes, dangling her round little feet in the cool sea air.

Qin Kaize noticed she was getting a bit cold and lifted her legs, placing her icy feet on his warm abs.

The sensation was extremely comfortable. Su Yijia traced the muscles of his abs with her toes while closing her eyes in delight. She wondered if his stomach would get cold from her chilly feet, and how he would handle it if he got a stomach ache while out at sea.

"What are you thinking about?" Qin Kaize asked, noticing her eyes wandering even though she was looking at him.

"Thinking about how you’d handle a stomach ache," Su Yijia replied reflexively, then blushed furiously.

Qin Kaize lowered his head and pressed his forehead. His lips, hidden behind his wrist, curved into a gentle smile.

"Don’t worry, I’m in good health. Even in this cold, I won’t get a stomach ache."

There was actually a clean, new chamber pot prepared in the small boat’s cabin, so if anything happened, they wouldn’t be unable to return to shore.

Sensing that the girl was playfully tugging at his feet, he quickly grabbed her ankles.

"Time’s up, let’s reel in the net," Qin Kaize said, checking the time. It had been nearly an hour.

Su Yijia scrambled up and hurriedly went to retrieve her net. Seeing her urgency, Qin Kaize wondered if she really loved seafood that much. He thought he should prepare more in advance when they go to Jingdu City. Although seafood is hard to keep alive, maybe her space could manage it. Otherwise, getting fresh seafood in Jingdu City would be a challenge.

Qin Kaize decided that next time he went to the city, he would call ahead and get several large tanks to ensure a year’s worth of seafood.

Unaware of Qin Kaize’s elaborate thoughts, Su Yijia was entirely focused on her net. Qin Kaize helped pull up the net.

There wasn’t much in the net, but they did catch a palm-sized abalone, two large conchs, two big green crabs, a grouper, and some large shrimp and small sea snails.

Uncle Lian, puffing on his cigarette, came over to inspect the catch on the deck and nodded in satisfaction. "Commander Qin, your wife’s luck is really good. Not much, but all good stuff."

Commander Qin wasn’t the first to bring his wife out to sea to catch seafood. Many of the island’s people had taken their wives out in small boats to catch seafood. But in all these years, Uncle Lian had never seen anyone with better luck than Commander Qin’s wife.

"Yes, my wife has always had good luck," Qin Kaize said, his usually indifferent gaze softening into a warm, gentle smile when he heard someone praise his wife.

"Quick, see what you caught with your net," Su Yijia said, her face flushed like a peach from their teasing.

Qin Kaize gathered the seafood into a bamboo basket, cleaned up the net, and with one hand carrying the basket and the other holding Su Yijia’s hand, they walked around the boat.

He pulled the net in quickly, and before Su Yijia could help, had already brought the net onto the deck. However, the catch was quite meager.

There were five crabs the size of Qin Kaize’s palm, some small sea snails, other small seafood, and a large clump of seaweed.

Qin Kaize had intended to throw the seaweed back into the sea, but Su Yijia suddenly saw a flash of white and called out, "Wait!"

Qin Kaize had already thrown the seaweed overboard. He reached out, curled his fingers, and managed to pull the large clump of seaweed back.

If his fingers had been just a bit shorter, he would have had to jump in to retrieve it.

"What’s in there?" Qin Kaize asked, weighing the clump of seaweed.

Though he couldn’t feel any living creatures through the thick layer of seaweed, Su Yijia squatted down and poked at it. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Her intuition told her there was no danger, so she began to peel away the seaweed with her bare hands to reveal what was inside.
