Chapter 502: Chapter 495: Old Fox (Part 8)

"It’s like this, Mr. Liu, our Xiaoquan is a local. His parents were farming before the crisis broke out, so..."

"So, on this trip, you plan to stop by his home to see if there is any news about his parents?"

"Yes!" Xu Renjie nodded affirmatively.

He didn’t want to hide this from Liu Fugui.

First, it was impossible to hide because the factory is riddled with surveillance devices.

Second, he wanted to use this as an excuse to leave the factory. After all, from what they’ve experienced so far, the factory seems solid, but there are undercurrents beneath the surface.

Not to mention, the squabble between Huang Yong and He Lei might cause unforeseen problems.

Liu Fugui, having heard everything, instinctively nodded: "Well, filial piety is the most important virtue! It’s only natural, Xiaoquan should indeed go and see. But it’s too dangerous for you to go out like this. How about this, I’ll have He Lei take some men to accompany you!"

After saying that, Liu Fugui made a gesture as if to get up and call for people. Upon seeing this, Tang Xiaoquan quickly halted his movement:

"Haha, Mr. Liu, no need to call anyone, it’s fine. I’m just going back to see the situation. Honestly, whether my parents are at home is unknown, and we don’t plan on confronting zombies directly, so too many people might just make things worse."

Tang Xiaoquan didn’t believe that Liu Fugui, who prioritized interests, would kindly send people to accompany him back to his hometown, especially not someone with He Lei’s volatile temper. Tang Xiaoquan would never let such a ticking time bomb follow along.

"Oh, I see!" Pretending to be distressed, Liu Fugui pinched his nose, then looked up and said: "Alright then. Since you say so, I won’t insist. After all, when it comes to dealing with those zombies, your experience surpasses that of our people. But remember, feel free to speak up, we’re partners after all. I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to my future partners, haha!"

Liu Fugui laughed heartily, and his smile seemed quite sincere, devoid of any pretense. What he truly thought, however, was perhaps a secret known only to himself.

"So when do you plan to leave?"

"Right now!" Xu Renjie answered with unusual certainty.

"Now? Why the rush? You just finished lunch, take a break at least."

"No need, Mr. Liu, we appreciate your kindness, but we’d like to set off early to get back to the villa by sunset."

"Understood!" Glancing at the three people in front of him, Liu Fugui placed his hands on the table, sitting upright: "With such tight timing, you should head out early. The later it gets, the more dangerous it becomes. How about this, you go back to your rooms to prepare, and I’ll arrange for someone to take you out immediately."

"Um, Mr. Liu, what about the supplies you promised?" Blushing slightly, Tang Xiaoquan sheepishly asked.

To this, Liu Fugui smiled: "Don’t worry, I’ll keep my promise to you."

"Thank you for your trouble then!"

After leaving the chairman’s office, the atmosphere in the waiting room was unusually quiet. The two guards leaned against the wall, heads down, utterly indifferent to the four emerging from the room. Seeing their absent-minded appearances, Tang Xiaoquan concluded they must have recently been reprimanded by He Lei.

No time to care about these pitiable souls, Xu Renjie and his brothers quickly passed through the second-floor corridor. Just as they were about to head upstairs, they ran into Huang Yong coming down with Liu Yunpeng. The latter was cursing under his breath, presumably due to the prior argument.

He brushed past Old Xu and the others like a gust of wind, treating them as if they were invisible.

This unsavory behavior led survivors to silently curse this "little punk."

Continuing upstairs, the survivors returned to their lodging, bumping into Wang Qiang who was hurriedly pulling on a T-shirt. Seeing the four return, he instantly shouted:

"What the hell, you guys left without telling me! Even if you don’t call me along, at least let me know!"

"Done yelling?" Tang Xiaoquan, covering his ears, spoke seriously once his friend showed no signs of continuing: "Who says we didn’t inform you? I, Old Xu, Brother Hu, and Brother Dazhuang all shouted for you. If you didn’t hear, who’s to blame?"

"Yeah, Qiang! You were way too into your singing," Hu Xiaodong added with a smirk. Just as he finished speaking, Huang Yong wordlessly barged into the room, crossing paths with them.

"You’re leaving, right? Once ready, head downstairs. I’ll wait for you there."

With that, Huang Yong left without a backward glance, truly coming and going in a hurry.

Xu Renjie walked over to the window, as usual, peering through the gap in the curtains.

Only after ensuring there was nothing amiss did he signal for the team to move out.

Descending to the ground floor, Huang Yong awaited them in the lobby as promised. Seeing the survivors appear, he silently pointed to a metal bucket on the ground: "Your weapons and equipment are here. Take them yourselves!"

As was his style, Huang Yong kept it brief, saying nothing more after giving instructions.

The survivors equipped themselves with the weapons from the bucket, then followed Huang Yong out of the building.

Not far away, the "pitiful employees" in the parking shed still looked dazed and bewildered.

Passing through the shed, the familiar high walls came into view. Huang Yong pointed at a pile of items by the wall: "The supplies Mr. Liu instructed to give you, those are it. Move them out!"

"Damn, just this little? Mr. Liu is really..."

Before the word "stingy" could escape, Tang Xiaoquan immediately silenced his friend, turning to express gratitude instead: "Mr. Huang, could you please convey our thanks to Mr. Liu?"

With that, without caring if Wang Qiang was willing, Tang Xiaoquan patted him on the back, eyes widening slightly: "Get to work! Move the stuff!"

Thanks to most zombies outside the wall being cleared by Huang Yong’s men, the survivors encountered few issues climbing over.

Old Xu cautiously opened the car’s hood for inspection. Though not as knowledgeable as Wang Zhongyu in car mechanics, he understood the basics.

After confirming no tampering traces were visible, Old Xu got into the vehicle.

Simultaneously, the others finished loading the supplies.

Hu Xiaodong tallied the supplies. They had four boxes of instant noodles and two packages of mineral water altogether.

The amount was indeed meager, but considering the overall situation, the three-point mission was successfully completed.

Next, it’s time to fulfill Tang Xiaoquan’s wish in hopes that heaven grants this child a reunion with his parents. (To be continued.
