Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 494 - 488: Old Fox (Part 1)
The battle outside the factory continued, with remaining zombies starting to move towards the survivors standing outside the vehicle.
For those accustomed to large-scale events like Hu Xiaodong and Wei Dazhuang, this scale of a zombie horde was no big deal.
But for Liu Yunpeng and Li Huiru, it was enough to almost scare them to death.
So much so that Liu Yunpeng kept loudly urging the people inside the factory: "Hey! What are you guys doing! Hurry up and open the door and let me in! Dad! Where are you! Tell them to open the door!"
Tang Xiaoquan watched all this indifferently, knowing that opening the door was not an easy task. However, considering the current number of zombies was not too many, their side could still handle it.
Plus, Liu Yunpeng was inside the car, so there was no immediate concern for his safety.
It was instead Liu Fugui’s attitude that puzzled Tang Xiaoquan. The great father had shown deep concern and worry for his son in previous radio communications.
Yet now, with his son outside the factory in danger, he not only didn’t arrange any rescue, but he was nowhere to be seen.
This couldn’t help but make Tang Xiaoquan question Liu Fugui’s character.
Just as Tang Xiaoquan was filled with suspicion, a voice came from the top of the factory wall again: "Alright! Alright! Young master, come over here!"
So that’s it! Following the direction of the voice, Tang Xiaoquan saw a wooden ladder being let down from the wall.
He quickly signaled to Liu Yunpeng, who was still huddled fearfully in the car, to get out of the car and climb the ladder.
Liu Yunpeng was a bit hesitant about this, as the occasional zombie growls outside kept scaring him.
Finally, seeing Liu Yunpeng unmoved for a while, Xu Renjie couldn’t stand it anymore. With a hunting crossbow in one hand, he strode quickly to the official vehicle, jerked open the door, and sternly ordered: "Get out now if you don’t want to die!"
It was as if he found a backbone; this time, Liu Yunpeng did not harbor any dissatisfaction and obediently followed Xu Renjie’s order to exit the vehicle, then quickly followed behind him to the wooden ladder let down at the wall. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Old Xu, you go first! Test the ladder to avoid it collapsing and injuring Liu Yunpeng!"
Tang Xiaoquan raised his hand to stop Liu Yunpeng, who was about to climb the ladder. Initially stunned, after hearing Tang Xiaoquan’s entire sentence, Liu Yunpeng immediately dispelled any thoughts of retort.
For a very simple reason: out of an instinct for self-preservation, Liu Yunpeng needed Xu Renjie to check the sturdiness of the wooden ladder for him.
Xu Renjie was also momentarily taken aback, obviously not quite understanding the young man’s intentions.
But after receiving a subtle and intriguing look from Tang Xiaoquan, he said no more, immediately lifting his leg to mount the ladder.
So what was Tang Xiaoquan really planning? Was he genuinely worried about Liu Yunpeng’s safety?
The answer was clearly negative! With Tang Xiaoquan’s pragmatic nature, he wouldn’t care about the life or death of an outsider.
His primary purpose in doing this was twofold:
First, it’s to show the people inside the factory that their group takes utmost care of Liu Yunpeng, hence Tang Xiaoquan hoped to use this as leverage for future negotiations for supplies.
Second, it was out of caution, as Liu Fugui’s avoidance made Tang Xiaoquan somewhat uneasy.
He certainly didn’t want all their efforts to be in vain, only for them to be betrayed in the end.
Thus sending Old Xu inside ensured that with the 92-style pistol in his hand and the crossbow on his back, he could maintain the situation and assure the ladder wouldn’t be removed by the opposition.
Once Old Xu was up the wall, he immediately signaled Liu Yunpeng to proceed. Meanwhile, Hu Xiaodong and Wei Dazhuang, who were in charge of guarding, gradually shrank their defensive perimeter.
Eventually, they led Li Huiru into the factory one after the other.
"What the hell are you doing! Don’t you know there are zombies outside! And you make me climb a ladder! What are you planning! Why not open the door!"
With a stern face and hands on his hips, Liu Yunpeng discarded his previous timid demeanor and barked angrily at a few raggedly dressed workers in front of him.
Upon seeing this, Xu Renjie’s forehead veins bulged as he prepared to step forward and intervene, only for a hand to discreetly pull at his jacket from behind, accompanied by a low whisper, "Old Xu, let’s see how this unfolds."
The speaker was naturally Tang Xiaoquan. Although he too detested Liu Yunpeng’s tyrannical behavior, for the sake of the bigger picture, it was unwise for them to step out now.
Old Xu was not one to act rashly, immediately understanding the young man’s intention, so he relaxed his posture and coldly observed Liu Yunpeng’s display.
"Young master!" Suddenly, a raspy voice came from the crowd.
Tang Xiaoquan looked over to see a lean man approaching from not far away.
The man, roughly 27-28 years old, of medium height, had a chiseled face adorned with a few scruffy whiskers, giving him a somewhat stylish look.
The mustachioed man walked leisurely towards Liu Yunpeng, speaking as he moved, "Young master! Please forgive us! We had no choice but to act this way. Surely you saw the factory’s situation earlier. If I had rashly opened the door, it would have taken too long, and the risks were great, so the wooden ladder was our only option for rescuing you."
"Nonsense! You just want to get me killed!" Liu Yunpeng paid no heed to the mustachioed man’s explanation, going so far as to speak for effect.
Yet, the mustachioed man remained exceedingly patient, ignoring Liu Yunpeng’s rude words. He bowed respectfully and earnestly apologized, saying, "The young master is right; it was my negligence, I hope the young master can forgive me."
Finishing his apology, Huang Yong slowly straightened up, smiling blandly as he said, "Young master, President Liu is waiting for you upstairs. Would you like to proceed?"
Perhaps it was the other’s humble attitude that Liu Yunpeng "enjoyed," causing him to cease his relentless castigations, merely letting out a cold snort before following a subordinate towards the inner part of the factory.
Seeing Liu Yunpeng leave, Li Huiru hurriedly followed, but as she passed by Huang Yong, a large hand blocked her path: "Where are you going?"
"I... I’m looking for my husband!" Li Huiru rolled her eyes, emboldened by the protective talisman of Liu Yunpeng. Despite feeling somewhat intimidated by the man before her, she still had some confidence.
Huang Yong cast a chilling gaze over the woman before him. He knew this woman must be another new plaything of their young master.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, he didn’t say much, simply lowering his arm and making a ’hurry along’ gesture without further words.
Seeing this, Wang Qiang and the others naturally "didn’t want to lag behind" and quickly followed behind Li Huiru.
However, before they could dash 2 meters, Huang Yong’s stern shout suddenly rang out: "Where do you think you’re going!!" (To be continued.
