Chapter 215: Wipe Out

With the Frost King Saber in hand and a steady but not at all slow gait, Chen Chuan walked toward the Blood Scars Gang members’ base. Bit by bit, he drew closer to where Han Chang’s group was.

Two shots landed on the ground near him, but Chen Chuan didn’t slow down at all. They did not affect him in the slightest.

They fired another shot at him, but perhaps he was too far away or perhaps they just wanted to intimidate him, because the bullet just grazed past him. Chen Chuan still didn’t stop. He drew even closer.

Nervousness filled Han Chang’s heart. Fortunately, he saw Du Mian’s group coming back, and he immediately went to the edge of the sentry post. He pointed at Chen Chuan with his cane and ordered, “Du Mian, you and the other two, don’t let him get any closer. If he won’t stop, kill him!”

Chen Chuan had clearly come for them, and Han Chang knew just what sort of destruction a martial artist could unleash once they got close, especially one wearing protective gear. If he managed to get into the sentry post, Han Chang would definitely be his first target, since he was the brains of the operation but couldn’t fight at all.

He didn’t care who Chen Chuan was or what sort of status he had. He was a threat to his life, so why should he care about all those other things? He would concern himself with it after killing Chen Chuan.

Du Mian was an obedient dog and did whatever he was told without thinking. He observed Chen Chuan a little and came to the conclusion that he was going to be a difficult opponent, so he grabbed a custom-made staff before going over with the other two.

When Chen Chuan saw them charge at him, he ignored the two coming at him from the sides. Instead, he fixed his gaze on Du Mian coming at him from the front.

The moment Du Mian got to a suitable distance to attack, he used the motion of his body to swing his arms, and his arms to drive his wrists into spinning the staff. With a whoosh, he stirred up a powerful gust as he swung the staff at Chen Chuan’s head.

The power behind the swing was so strong that even the fallen leaves around him flew up. Du Mian was confident that his opponent’s bones and tendons would be shattered if he managed to hit him, regardless of whether he wore protective gear or had other forms of protection.

Yet he suddenly saw a blur, and his opponent seized his throat while he was still mid-swing.

A bad feeling rose in his heart, and he instinctively activated the two-tier refined force. This was a special technique that allowed him to generate a second wave of refined force to fend off an enemy after he released the first wave. It provided him with great results during intense fights.

The mutated tissue around his chest and neck swelled up like they were filled with gas and formed a refined force that pushed outward like an explosion. At any other time, it would have forced away the fingers that grabbed him.

But this time, his opponent just tightened his grip around his neck. Regardless of whether it was his puffed up mutated tissue or the muscles and bones in his neck, they were as brittle as rotten wood under the force of the grip. They all shattered in an instant.

Chen Chuan’s gaze remained calm as he threw away the dead Du Mian, like he was throwing away something useless. Then, he continued forward.

The two martial artists charging at him had been intending to launch a pincer attack after Du Mian, but Du Mian was already dead. They came to an abrupt halt and exchanged glances before taking a few steps back.

When Chen Chuan walked past them, they exchanged another look and pulled out their handguns to take aim at his back.

Chen Chuan appeared to be ignoring the threat, only for his hand to twitch. His hand moved so quickly that they didn’t see what had happened, just his trench coat fluttering for a bit before hearing two thuds. Then, their heads exploded, and they fell backward.

All the people on the sentry post felt their breaths stilling.

Chen Chuan was less than a hundred meters away from the sentry post when he stopped.

He looked up and plunged the Frost King Saber’s sheath into the ground before grabbing the hilt. The shining saber came out with a sharp glare, and Chen Chuan vanished.

Han Chang was a knowledgeable man, and he immediately knew what this meant. Fear rose in his heart as he turned around to get down from the sentry post. He had gone up there because it gave him a view far into the distance, but he was beginning to hate himself for climbing so high up.

Intense gunfire came from outside, along with screams of pain, shouts of terror, and yells of rage. Han Chang grabbed the bamboo staircase’s railing tightly as he climbed down with trembling legs. Since he was too nervous, he nearly missed a few steps and had to waste time to catch himself.

When he reached the bottom of the sentry post, the sounds outside had dwindled until eventually fading to complete silence after he staggered outside.

Sunlight shone on corpses littering the ground. Most of the ruthless gang members had their bodies cut apart, while those further away had their heads blasted open. The sight sent chills down his spine.

A person in a black trench coat stood not too far away. He was drawing his saber from a gang member after running his body through with it. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Han Chang’s breathing quickened, and he shivered like a leaf. Then, without a single word, he started running. Every time his cane struck the ground, it trembled, as if he was about to fall.

Even so, his legs managed to move quickly, and he kept running, as if by doing so he could escape.

After ten meters of huffing and puffing, he heard someone approach him at a moderate pace, and terror seized his entire being. He wanted to scream, but his throat muscles clenched up, and he could only let out hoarse gasps.

In this sort of situation, the more panicked a person was, the sloppier their movements became. Han Chang missed a step and fell. His neatly combed hair was reduced to a mess.

The earth under him was loose, so he wasn’t injured. Still, his mind went blank. After fumbling around for his cane and trying to get up, he heard the footsteps stop next to him, and he stiffened up.

From the corner of his eye, he saw a pair of black ankle-length boots and the hem of a black trench coat. They moved past him to arrive in front of him.

Han Chang didn’t dare to look up. He knelt on the ground while sobbing and pushed out a small leather briefcase he carried with him. “Please spare me. I’m valuable and have money. I can give it all to you...”

“Are you Han Chang? You’re the one who used a ritual to absorb vital energy from other people, aren’t you? Raise your head,” Chen Chuan ordered.

Han Chang slowly straightened his back while trembling. Since Chen Chuan was standing with his back against the sun, Han Chang couldn’t see him clearly. He could only see a scarf swaying gently with the autumn wind.

“Yes. That’s me. I’m Han Chang. Arrest me. I’ve committed a lot of crimes, really. You can sentence me. That’s right. You can sentence me.”

“If you are, then that settles things,” Chen Chuan said and brought the saber up before swinging it down. Han Chang’s head flew into the air while his headless body fell to the side.

Chen Chuan flung the blood off his saber and plunged it into the ground before taking the camera out to start taking photographs. Then, he searched through the people’s belongings.

He didn’t know who were the cultists and who were the members of the Blood Scars Gang. Not that he needed to differentiate them. As long as they had weapons and attacked him, he was free to kill them. The ones who didn’t and appeared to be logisticians or technicians, he just knocked them out so the hamlet residents could deal with them.

After inspecting everyone, he found two cultists, but the notebooks they carried had superficial information about rituals, as if they had only started learning recently and were sent here just for show. While they could set up an array, its effects would be lackluster.

The core members of the cult should be somewhere else.

Once Chen Chuan searched through the entire place, he picked up Han Chang’s briefcase and left.

Ten minutes after he left, the residents from Cai Hamlet approached with great caution. The moment they saw the corpse-laden ground, surprise, fear, and excitement showed up on their faces.

Guan Xiaohui stared at the dead bodies all over the ground in disbelief. They had treated these gang members like a calamity that could wipe out the hamlet, but they were gone, just like that?

Zhen Ping looked around. She was a martial artist and could tell that the members of the Blood Scars Gang hadn’t put up much of a fight. They had all been killed in one move. The entire slaughter was swift and flawless, showing that the difference between the two sides was like night and day.

One of the two senior members of the group observed the place with a nervous and grave expression.

“He should be a Third Limit martial artist,” the senior member said confidently.

The other one wasn’t in complete agreement. “He may not be, but he’s about to get there. It’s also possible that he took medicine.”

After some hesitation, Guan Xiaohui went up to Zhen Ping and whispered into her ear, “I think the person just now was Chen Chuan...”

Startled, Zhen Ping turned around to her. “Are you sure?”

“I couldn’t see him clearly, but I recognized the saber. Chen Chuan had it with him when he killed Fang Dawei’s gang. There’s no way I would mistake it. The person’s height and build was also similar to Chen Chuan’s,” Guan Xiaohui answered.

So, it really was him. Then again, it could only have been him, Zhen Ping thought.

Chen Chuan had defeated the Mutual Aid Group all by himself, so the remnants of the Blood Scars Gang were nothing to him. The Mutual Aid Group was much better than the Blood Scars Gang in terms of equipment, weapons, and quality of their members.

“Do you think Chen Chuan came here solely to take out the members of the Blood Scars Gang?” Guan Xiaohui asked.

Zhen Ping wasn’t sure, so she took some time to think. “Chen Chuan might have received a mission from a governmental department to come and wipe out the gang members.”

Just then, one of the martial artists walked over. “Xiao Zhen, get ready. We have to leave Cai Hamlet as soon as possible.”

“Leave? Why?” Zhen Ping was taken aback.

“The trench coat that person was wearing might seem normal at first glance, but it’s the National General Affairs Bureau’s stab proof coat.”

“The National General Affairs Bureau...” Zhen Ping was shocked and almost blurted something out, but managed to hold her tongue at the last moment. She gave Guan Xiaohui a tug, and she stayed quiet as well.

The martial artist turned to Guan Xiaohui and comforted her. “Don’t worry, Xiaohui. We’re just retreating for a short while. We won’t be gone forever. Bao Yuan is still active in this area. Before getting rid of the cancer in our group, we won’t leave!”
