Chapter 151: Telegram

Hu Xian and Lao Wan stared at Chen Chuan in a daze. The sight in the living room was completely different from what they expected to see. When sunlight hit the blood on the floor and the shining blade, they found themselves unable to think clearly.

But at the end of the day, Hu Xian was still on the examination committee. She composed herself and searched for Lionfist with a sharp gaze, only to find him surprisingly easily.

The man was located in the most eye-catching place. Compared to the others, his body was still relatively intact. His expression was very natural too. If he were put back together, he could even pass for someone sitting naturally, posing for a photo.

All the tension drained from her expression and body, and she laughed at how nervous she had been.

Lionfist was an incredibly powerful and influential criminal, and along with his gang, he was really dangerous. He wouldn’t have been chosen as the target for the test otherwise.

She had thought the test would be full of pre-operation investigations, planning, and preparation, eventually leading to an intense fight. If he did well in those things, the fight would go a bit smoother, not something like this. She had not imagined this happening in her wildest dreams. Unable to help herself, she asked, “That’s it? It’s over?”

Lao Wan was silent for a while before he grunted, “Yeah.”

Chen Chuan had sensed them coming, but didn’t turn around. He stood still with his saber ready and eyes trained at the staircase leading up.

Right then, footsteps came from above.

Hu Xian and Lao Wan noticed them too and aimed their guns at the staircase.

The footsteps were really steady, and each step landed on the floor solidly. Soon, they saw a middle-aged man in a top hat walking down.

Hu Xian raised an eyebrow and lowered her gun. She grumbled. “You were here, Lao Feng? Couldn’t you have told me?”

Lao Feng felt resigned. He hadn’t actually seen what happened. He had been searching for a place to observe Chen Chuan when he suddenly heard gunshots and ran to the room in a hurry. How could he possibly have notified Hu Xian? As for why he came from upstairs? To maintain his image, obviously.

When Chen Chuan saw that they knew each other, he patted down his fluttering scarf and lowered his saber.

Just then, they heard a sedan coming over, and Lao Feng’s expression became stern. “Looks like the other buyer has arrived. I’ll go and talk to him.”

With that said, he walked down and headed out. When he passed by Chen Chuan, he gave him a nod.

“That’s your examiner. He’s in charge of giving you your marks. He’s also a special agent of the examination committee,” Hu Xian said once she walked over. She then sized Chen Chuan up. “Not bad, kid. You got rid of all of them in just a moment. You were really quick and efficient. I was worried for nothing.”

“Thank you, Ms. Hu, Mr. Wan,” Chen Chuan thanked them both earnestly.

No matter what, these two had rushed in to help him before knowing what the situation was. There was no getting out of acknowledging this.

“For what?” Hu Xian looked around and finally felt at ease. “You’ve opened my eyes, kid. It’s no wonder Lao Feng was so concerned about you. I’ve never seen him paying so much attention to an examinee.”

Meanwhile, multiple blue sedans drove down the road with a limousine among them. A handsome man with a mustache sat in it. He was in his thirties and wore a trenchcoat. Naturally, he was Blue Sparrow.

The one in the front passenger seat stared ahead. He had great eyesight and noticed right away that the windows in the building they were supposed to go to had all shattered. He turned around and said, “Boss, we’ve arrived, but I think something went wrong.”

“Send someone up to take a look,” Blue Sparrow ordered.

Lao Feng had already walked onto the road and stood in front of the car fleet. The cars stopped in front of him, and people came out. Aside from the group keeping watch of their surroundings, the others all aimed their guns at him.

Lao Feng just thought that the wind outside was really strong and pushed his top hat down while keeping his eyes trained on the limousine. He ignored all the guns pointed at him.

Blue Sparrow remained in his car, but a muscular security guard came out and walked to Lao Feng. Once he sized him up, he motioned at Lao Feng with his chin. “What are you doing here?”

Lao Feng reached into his breast pocket, and everyone brought their guns further up. One of them shouted, “Don’t move!”

Lao Feng remained unbothered and said, “Calm down. I’m alone.”

The muscular security guard kept his gaze trained on him as Lao Feng took out a business card from his breast pocket and waved it at him. The muscular security guard took a look before shock struck him. He whispered, “Please wait a moment.”

He ran back to the limousine and spoke to Blue Sparrow.

In just a moment, the door opened, and Blue Sparrow stepped out. He motioned for the men around him to lower their guns and went to Lao Feng. He took a look at the business card as well before turning to him.

“You’re from the National General Affairs Bureau, Mr. Feng?” Then, he turned to the building beside him with a contemplative expression and flashed him a charming smile. “Do you need our help?”

Lao Feng put his business card back into his pocket before putting his hands into his trouser pockets. “No need. We’ll take care of things, though I’m afraid you have come here for nothing.”

Blue Sparrow dismissed it with a casual wave. “That’s nothing. I’m glad to have gotten to know you.”

“Is that so? Even though you won’t even shake my hand?” Lao Feng shot back.

Blue Sparrow brought his hand to his mouth and coughed into it to mask his awkwardness. He said, “Well then, I won’t be bothering you at your job. Good day.”

He gave him a nod and returned to his car.

The car fleet reversed and went back.

One of Blue Sparrow's followers asked, “Boss, he’s just an officer working at the National General Affairs Bureau. Why did you show him such respect?”

Blue Sparrow side-eyed him before saying, “Do you believe everything you see on a business card? Besides, the National General Affairs Bureau is involved in everything. I might have someone from there working with me right now. I don’t intend to wake up one day with a gun to my head.”

He then turned to his driver, “Wouldn’t you agree, A’Xing?”

A’Xing answered without even turning around. “I don’t understand these things, Boss.”

“Good that you don’t.” Blue Sparrow laughed. “It’s a pity about that combat spider. It’s the best portable bio-weapon available in Tayana.”

Lao Feng went back upstairs after the car fleet left.

Chen Chuan had already resheathed the Frost King Saber and was standing near the window. His dancing red scarf stood out like a sore thumb despite the red covering the floor.

Hu Xian was inspecting the room. Aside from a few lackeys who were barely breathing and the unconscious Ran Xiaoli, the others had died with one slash. The kills had been so clean and swift that it made her skin crawl.

When Lao Feng returned, Chen Chuan asked, “Mr. Feng, I heard from Ms. Hu that you’re my examiner. Have I passed the test?”

Lao Feng looked at the severed limbs lying all over the floor and suddenly felt that he had been quite wrong about the review he left behind yesterday.

With a serious expression, he said, “Once I submit my report, the examination committee will make the final call, but based on my views, you’ve earned a passing grade after severely injuring and killing all of your test targets. You shouldn’t have any problem passing the test. I can probably congratulate you already.”

With Lao Feng’s acknowledgement, Chen Chuan felt confidence bloom in him. He looked at a table in a corner and asked, “What should we do about the thing they left behind?”

Lao Feng smiled. “You can take all the spoils from your test. Don’t feel shy about it. While we have a tight budget, we’re quite tolerant toward capable examinees.”

“Even the combat spider?” Chen Chuan asked.

“Even the combat spider. You can take whatever you want. We’ll send people to retrieve the corpses,” Lao Feng stated.

Chen Chuan nodded. He had already retrieved the gold certificate from Lionfist. This thing didn’t belong to him alone, but to everyone who participated in the joint mission to retrieve the oak leaf, so he had to bring it back.

As for things like guns and cars, he had no way to sell them off, so he couldn’t bring them back. He could only ask Hu Xian to get rid of them.

He went over to her and proposed his plan.

“Kid, I can help you sell the other things for cash, but you should take the combat spider with you. That thing will stand out too much at my place, and it’ll affect my business.

“As for submitting it to the government? Don’t even think about it. The top brass won’t fancy this, not that it would ever reach them; it’ll be seized during the approval process. It might end up benefiting some bastard up there, or they might just throw it into a garage and let it gather dust. Take it with you.”

“I heard that this thing needs calorie- and nutrient-dense food,” Chen Chuan said after some thinking.

“It’s fine. Just keep it in sleep mode. Use it only at a critical moment. Even if it’s just once, you’d still have gotten your money’s worth back and more. Look around a little more. You should find more things you will want to keep,” Hu Xian said in an unbothered manner.

“Okay. I’ll leave the rest to you. You’ve helped me a lot, both you and Mr. Wan. You should get some money out of this too. Please also split some of it with Mr. Feng,” Chen Chuan said.

While Lao Feng said that he didn’t want anything, it couldn’t be what he really thought. Besides, while it was Lao Feng’s choice as to whether he wanted the money, it was Chen Chuan’s choice whether he gave him any.

“Since you trust me, I’ll make sure to take care of this properly. I’ll also split the money with Lao Feng,” Hu Xian said, then turned to Lao Wan.

“Lao Wan, get the guys. We have work to do.”

She looked around. Even though she had to retrieve corpses, there was no hesitation to her actions this time, because all those who died deserved it.

While they were busy cleaning up the place, Lao Feng went back to the hostel and into the hidden room. He shut the door behind him, took out his pen, and started writing a telegram, but no matter how many times he wrote it, he wasn’t happy with it. He felt like he couldn’t convey what had happened no matter how hard he tried. Whenever he was halfway through his report, he ended up balling the paper and throwing it to the side.

In the end, after some thinking, he just gave a simple description of the events before adding three exclamation points at the end. It was something that he didn’t normally do.

Once done, he squatted down, took out a telegraph machine from the cabinet, placed it on the table, put on headphones, and sent the telegram.

As beeping sounds rose in the room, the contents of the telegram were transmitted via radio waves. They passed through the telegraph relay stations set all across the vast land until they reached the headquarters of the National General Affairs Bureau, located in a secretive area. The cryptographers then sent the telegram to the people whom the report was addressed to.

In just half a day, the headquarters sent a telegram back.

Lao Feng stayed by the telegraph machine and only perked up when he heard a set series of beeps. Then, he recorded the code.

Right after, he removed the headphones and started interpreting its contents based on memory.

After verification from related departments and staff, Chen Chuan, student of the Great Shun Republic’s Martial Valor University in Yangzhi City, has met the requirements to pass the unrestricted defense permit test and will hereby be declared to have passed the Class B permit test. He will be approved to receive the Class B permit.

It was signed by the Great Shun Republic’s unrestricted defense permit examination committee and the Great Shun Republic’s National General Affairs Bureau.

For some reason, Lao Feng felt really excited.

He sat in his seat for a bit to calm down before burning the original copy of the telegram. Then, he stood up, walked out, and checked the clock on the wall. It was 11 p.m., but he felt like he shouldn’t wait until the morning. He should tell the teenager the good news right away.
