Book 3, Chapter 144: Glazed Saber

Chen Chuan gave it a cursory glance. The ID showed that the person was Border Fusion’s Administrative Department. Since he wasn’t going to take part in the company’s internal affairs, he ignored the call.

His refusal to connect with the person made them send a voice message through the company’s internal platform.

“Mr. Chen, we know that you’re strong, but don’t do anything stupid. We just want to tell you that she will never be able to fulfill her promise.”

After playing, the message automatically deleted itself. Chen Chuan’s gaze turned sharp. Judging from the tone and words, someone from Meng Huang’s side had sent the warning, but he had a feeling that things weren’t that simple.

While he was thinking about it, another person tried to connect with him. Based on the ID, it was Meng Shu’s assistant.

He added her, and the call immediately went through. “Hello, Mr. Chen, I’m Yan Yi, Miss Shu’s assistant and butler. Welcome to our team.

“We’re currently at Grand Prosperity Finance. In order to make sure that Miss Shu’s personal details aren’t leaked to our competitors, she’s not using her Realm Pass right now. I’m in charge of communicating with you.”

“Got it. That’s safer, true,” Chen Chuan said. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

“Thank you for understanding. Do you have any suggestions for our current situation?” Yan Yi asked.

“You don’t have to tell me now when you plan to leave Grand Prosperity Finance. Just send me a notification ahead of time. I’ll arrive within an hour,” Chen Chuan said.

“Got it. I’ll make a note on that. One more thing: We’ll send some custom-made protective gear to you. Please receive the packages,” Yan Yi said seriously.

“Alright,” Chen Chuan agreed.

With the conversation with Yan Yi over, Chen Chuan discussed things a little further with Gao Ming before driving back to the Arcane Palace.

He believed that now that he had become Meng Shu’s security advisor, her team would soon leave Grand Prosperity Finance, so he began getting ready in his room.

In less than half an hour, he received a package.

Border Fusion was a supplier of protective gear, and they had given him Class Two Protective Gear made by the company. It was of even better quality than the one provided by the National General Affairs Bureau.

After all, back then, he wasn’t a Third Limit martial artist. Meanwhile, this set of protective gear was made according to the characteristics of Third Limit martial artists.

Aside from clothes, he also received a special fiber mask. It seemed thin and feeble, but when he pressed down on it, it instantly became sturdy.

A vertical, bright red streak ran down the center of the mask’s forehead that looked like a symbol or a decorative mark, but Chen Chuan had a feeling that this design had other uses.

Third Limit martial artists had keen senses and could notice many things normal people couldn’t detect. That was why it was said that they had a third eye. This streak might have something to do with it.

Soon after the first package came another from the Resolution Department. They sent him casual clothes not in the department’s usual style. Their materials, though, were no different from his uniform.

Chen Chuan checked everything. Once he was sure that there was nothing wrong, he took some medicine, guided his breathing, and centered his mind.

He had nothing on schedule for the day, and Yan Yi didn’t contact him for the rest of the day.

Around 7 a.m. the next morning, he received a notification on his Realm Pass. Chen Chuan opened his eyes from his meditative state and looked outside.

Since he hadn’t drawn the curtains, he could see flickering neon lights outside. As the sun rose and chased away the darkness, the morning rays mingled together with the brilliant, beautiful lights, and Chen Chuan couldn’t quite tell which was which.

He got to his feet and washed up a little before changing into the new protective gear and casual clothes. Then, he grabbed the Frost King Saber and drove to Grand Prosperity Finance.

In forty-five minutes, he arrived before the company. Yan Yi was already waiting for him at the steps. When she saw him, she went over to greet him. “Hello, Mr. Chen.”

Chen Chuan nodded to return her greeting and said, “Are you ready, Ms. Yan?”

“Miss Shu is ready and prepared to leave at any moment.” She then turned to the side to show the security guards behind her. “This is our security team. If you think that there’s something wrong with them, you can make adjustments.”

Chen Chuan cast them a cursory glance. The team appeared to be well-equipped and professional, but there were no Third Limit martial artists among them, which was a huge hole in their defense.

But then again, this was understandable. When a non-martial artist ran into trouble, they would be able to deal with it with a security team, while if they got involved in a fight with a Third Limit martial artist and things went wrong, heads would fly, even if they had a security team.

He looked away and said, “We can leave now.”

Yan Yi immediately contacted the people inside with her Realm Pass. Soon, Meng Shu came out while escorted by three female security guards. She turned to Chen Chuan, and he met her gaze.

“Come with me,” he said and turned around before leaving the place.

The Resolution Department was also paying attention to the area and looking for suspicious people. Their main task was to ensure that there were no snipers around, so they had officers set up security measures and monitor the domains at high places and areas that provided easy cover.

Just then, one of the resonators suddenly said, “We found a suspicious target. They’re moving toward Grand Prosperity Finance. We’re currently checking their identity.”

One beat later, the resonator shouted, “We identified him! It’s Feng Yaren!”

“Feng Yaren? That Feng Yaren?”

Guan Ziyang was shocked. As if he remembered something, he quickly checked the image the resonator sent to him and instantly recognized the person. With a stern expression, he said, “Contact Officer Chen, now!”

“Roger!”

***

Chen Chuan had reached the bottom of the stairs and was heading to the parking lot when he sensed something. He turned and raised his hand to motion for everyone to stop.

The security team behind him immediately came to a halt, and several security guards spread out to the sides. They formed a circle and used their bodies to cover Meng Shu while they moved back.

Walking toward them was a man dressed in the traditional clothing of one of the island nations. He appeared to be less than thirty and had fair skin, a beautiful face, and long, tied hair. At first glance, he looked like a woman, and when he walked, there was a unique rhythm to his gait.

Just then, Chen Chuan received a voice message.

“Officer Chen, that’s Glazed Saber Feng Yaren. Be careful.”

At the same time, his information appeared on Chen Chuan’s Realm Pass. A quick skim through told him that this person was a foreigner and a master saber wielder at the Third Limit. It was also recorded that he had won twelve fights consecutively before.

This was quite impressive. Some Third Limit martial artists never engaged other Third Limit martial artists in fights to the death. And that was just the recorded fights. It was likely Feng Yaren had fought against even more people.

“Are there snipers around?” Chen Chuan asked.

“No. He’s alone,” Guan Ziyang answered confidently.

“I don’t detect any interference from resonators, Chen Chuan,” Wu Bei also said.

Chen Chuan hummed at that and turned his gaze forward. If Feng Yaren showed up now, he had to have come for Meng Shu.

Even though Feng Yaren had lost the element of surprise by marching right up to them, his information showed that he wasn’t an assassin but a martial artist who made it a hobby to challenge other powerful martial artists. If that were the case, Meng Huang had to have made use of him.

But it was a good plan. If Chen Chuan died in the fight, Meng Shu’s team would lose its greatest asset, and she might as well give up on winning the competition.

Feng Yaren arrived in front of Chen Chuan and gave him a slight bow before saying, “Let’s have a good fight, Mr. Chen.”

Then, he slowly drew his saber and positioned it at the center of his body.

Chen Chuan took a look at the saber. It was sharp and thin to the point of being translucent. When looked at from a different angle, light seemed to be coming from the blade itself. Perhaps that was how Feng Yaren had earned his nickname.

At that moment, the senior officers of the Resolution Department learned that Feng Yaren had come to challenge Chen Chuan, and they immediately made use of the Realm Nodes to see the fight. The people collecting Chen Chuan’s information in secret and those pulling the strings from behind the scenes also came to watch it.

Chen Chuan didn’t draw his saber. Instead, he walked over to his opponent.

Feng Yaren’s expression didn’t change. He took a step forward, and the glazed saber in his hands shone with an almost indiscernible light. That light jumped straight toward him.

At that moment, Chen Chuan’s skin turned slightly red, and he released his biofield.

He also sensed Feng Yaren’s biofield and immediately noticed that it was rather uneven. It was sharp and tough on the outside but fragile on the inside.

Chen Chuan’s gaze turned fierce.

Feng Yaren sensed Chen Chuan’s biofield and noticed something unbelievable. His gaze changed, and he slowed his swing.

Chen Chuan turned his body to the side and avoided the saber. Then, he swung his sheathed blade and rammed it against the glazed saber, effectively stopping Feng Yaren’s charge.

But that wasn’t all.

Their refined forces clashed, and Feng Yaren’s strength was completely suppressed.

Chen Chuan went forward and slammed his hand against Feng Yaren’s shoulder. At first glance, it looked like he had moved too quickly and failed to generate enough power for his attack, but he hit a critical point in the flow of refined force in Feng Yaren’s body. The martial artist not only failed to mobilize his refined force, but was also shoved so hard that he stumbled back and lost his balance.

Chen Chuan took a third step forward and slammed his palm against Feng Yaren’s face. At the same time, all the accumulated refined force in his body burst forward. With the Furnace Breathing Technique propelling it forward, his refined force charged into Feng Yaren’s skull and exploded. A cone-shaped gush of blood sprayed out.

The headless corpse stood still for a moment before swaying and falling backward. It crashed on the ground while still holding the saber. Meanwhile, Chen Chuan remained with his palm extended outward. Wisps of white steam rose from the back of his hand and fingers.

They had only just met, but within three steps, Chen Chuan managed to kill the famous Feng Yaren.
