Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 445: Sheva’s Stupidity, Taking Side Too Early!
"What the—" Sheva winced, not expecting Bagas to shriek so suddenly. "What is wrong with you?" He glared at his best friend while rubbing his ears painfully, still not realizing the severe situation that he caused.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!" Bagas panted heavily; all color seemed to be drained from his face. "THAT’S WHAT I SHOULD ASK YOU, BASTARD! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"
Sheva was startled, now clearly realizing that Bagas was truly furious. No, not furious. More like... Panic. And the boy had a valid reason for his crash out, as Sheva was indeed reckless with his tweet.
ShevaA007: I don’t know if he still remembers our game in Reykjavik, but I don’t think that @hans is cheating. Also, if the best player could accuse any player and everyone believed without batting their eyes, would he have the power to do so for anyone who beat him? Is this a witch hunt or what?
The tweet was quite long for the platform standard, but it summarized Sheva’s intention clearly. It supported Hans while also condemning Magnus for accusing him recklessly like this. The problem, though, was that the one he supported was in a difficult time, which would only bring him into the same situation.
"... Would you believe me if I said that I didn’t think clearly?" Sheva asked meekly.
"EXACTLY! YOU ARE NOT THINKING!" Bagas roared, still having his chest breathing heavily. "DELETE THAT FUCKING TWEET! NOW!"
Sheva’s hand trembled as he tried to do what Bagas ordered him to. However, when he saw that tweet, he was so stunned that his fingers froze.
"What?!" Bagas frowned, noticing that small action.
"J—Just look at this." Sheva slid his phone over the table, not daring to meet his best friend’s eyes directly. He knew that even though Bagas always looked nonchalant, the fat boy had quite a nasty temper, and provoking him was not something that Sheva wanted to do.
Bagas snatched the phone immediately, just to have his jaw drop to the ground in the next second. There, he saw the number of retweets had already passed 500, and the likes themselves had already crossed 2000. It seemed that he really underestimated Sheva’s new popularity, never expecting that a post that had only been posted for less than 5 minutes would be this huge.
@y4sch: Wait, is this really Sheva’s account? Why would he side with the cheater?!
@Kaikun777: As expected, birds of the same flock fly together.
@Castella01: Damn, what do you mean by that, @Kaikun777?! Are you accusing Sheva of cheating?!
@Chipp0: @ShevaA007, how about you take down this tweet? This wouldn’t be good for you.
Well, Sheva himself also wanted to do what the last people said, and then, burying himself deep under six feet so that he could avoid Bagas’s wrath. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done, and it was impossible to turn back time. Now, the most important thing is thinking of how to handle this situation, which brought a headache to the two teenagers in the room.
"You really make a huge mess, Shev." Bagas sighed helplessly, rubbing his forehead slightly. "I mean, I don’t mind you showing your support for him, but at least, wait for a moment, okay? Right now, the public opinion is not on Hans’s side, so doing this would only bring your name into mud. At least, don’t be the first one to give your controversial thought; wait until everything is calmer first before taking your side."
Sheva nodded like a pecked chicken obediently, not even complaining about all the insults he received earlier.
"So... Should I take down the tweet?" Sheva asked meekly.
In return, Bagas pondered for a few seconds before shaking his head firmly. "No, just let it be." He said. "People have already noticed that, so deleting it would only make your public image worse. That would make people think that you are in the same language as Hans, but you are too cowardly to face the pressure from the entire world. No, instead of deleting it, just let it slide, get more attention for you. Maybe, this will be good for the future."
Sheva himself still didn’t know what Bagas meant by that. Still, out of trust—and guilt for making this mess—the boy just nodded, accepting his best friend’s suggestion straight away.
True enough, within a few days, Sheva felt his phone was about to burn. It had received so many messages, more than he would normally get. He could see some of them showing their concern, from Medina, Dmitrij Kollar, to even Master Sergei himself. Some even persuaded Sheva to withdraw his tweet, not wanting to see him muddying into this mess more than necessary.
Hell, Sheva even got a few calls from Irene, asking whether he was okay or not. Fortunately, the woman didn’t really question him, having already trusted the boy enough to know that he could be trusted.
Still, everything went crazy on his side. So many trolls came to his Twitter page and wreaked havoc, yet all of them were getting intercepted by his Indonesian fans before they could even get big. Even though his fans had never met him, they decided to stand still, not wanting to see their idol suffer. Things usually got worse when the cheating accusation was thrown at Sheva as well, with more than 100 people ready to fight to the death for him.
Of course, Sheva noticed all of those things. He had been observing the social media quite intently in the last couple of days, and he was quite touched to see so many people willing to fight for him. Yet the boy just stayed quiet, as he was forbidden from posting anything else there. While the rule itself wasn’t that strict, Sheva didn’t want to challenge Bagas in this situation, not wanting to invite his best friend’s wrath.
Fortunately, this was the best decision that he had ever made in his life. After the situation started to calm down, Sheva could finally see Bagas walking with less tension, even smiling at him right now.
"So, is everything okay already?" He couldn’t help but ask.
Bagas stared at him for a moment, thinking about what to say here. In the end, he smiled mischievously and asked back, "Well, I have ordinary news and great news for you today. Which one do you want to hear first?"
