Chapter 365: The Galactic Society

With the war put on indefinite hold, the four universal civilizations began official work, first and foremost, divvying territories.

Recognized as rulers of the universe, they divvied up all known star fields amongst one another.

They then created laws for all other civilizations to govern with and abide by, before setting up the basic blocks necessary to ensure their reign.

Such as laws, trade routes, and a universal currency. Thus inadvertently connecting the star fields with one another.

With the universe now connected with one another, slowly but surely, a market formed as trade and travel routes were established.

A market that went beyond all boundaries, signalling the start of the interstellar era.

With a universe wide ceasefire in place, the battle for power shifted from development of physical weaponry on the battlefield to cultivating influence on the political stage, the number of higher beings in a civilization and of course, the weight of one’s wallet.

This in turn set the theme of the era.

With everyone seeking to stabilize their position and retain their power, alliances were formed and plenty of deals were made.

But things were still shaky because of lack of communication as language barriers still existed.

That was until the universal interpreter was invented.

Built from the combined efforts of the four ruling civilizations, it dissolved language barriers and is sighted as one of the most crucial inventions that made the creation of the galactic society possible.

Alongside it, is the universal communicator.

Whilst communicators had long existed, few were capable of communication across star fields.

Moreover, it was preceded by a significant event.

The birth of the Fifth paragon.

This time, the paragon came from a civilization of automatons a.k.a machinery life.

Unlike the warring era, no battles took place as the automations didn’t seek to usurp the established civilizations; though it wasn’t like they could, any attempt to do so would have had the other paragons join hands to annihilate the machinery civilization and kill the paragon.

They wouldn’t allow anyone to defy their reign.

Instead, the automatons simply allied itself with one of the four civilizations-the Titans-so as to gain maximum benefits.

Back on topic, this paragon- Kelvinson Calvex-discovered what he aptly named the ’Quantum network’

A network of energy present at every facet of the universe but unseen to all but a few.

Experimenting with this quantum network, he engineered a device, a node-the quantum node-that could use it as an information carrier, eventually creating the quantum matrix.

The quantum matrix is a line of nodes using quantum energy to transmit information and mark set points in the quantum network.

Using it, he created the universal communicator.

Since quantum energy was easily changed to other forms of other, creating a device capable of harnessing the data from within before then changing the form of energy didn’t take much.

Thus enabling communication across the entire universe, and that changed everything.

Coupled with the creation of a universal currency and stargates, it was but a matter of time before an intergalactic market formed and of course, the creation of the intergalactic black market followed soon after.

These two entities catalyzed the creation of the galactic society.

While the galactic society had begun forming at the start of the interstellar era, it was only officially recognized towards its end.

During this period of time, it was unanimously agreed-though never discussed-somewhere along the line that the best way to gauge a civilization’s standing was to use the average number of higher beings within.

On the flipside, this made it such that the perceived way to best improve a civilizations standing was by cultivating higher beings.

This in turn shifted the battle for power to a race to hoard resources, creating a frenzy for artifacts and pills, making it was wonderful time for scavengers and archeologist who happened to chance upon such items, which in turn sped up the development of intergalactic markets as their range of trade increased.

With civilizations in a frenzy for resources, attention fell upon artifacts lost in the past, which led to a race in acquiring them.

It was at this juncture that the existence of realms and dimensions became public knowledge.

Thanks to the efforts of many from the previous era, quite a few realms were unearthed as inheritance grounds left by constellations, filled with troves of treasures and high quality artifacts.

On the other hand, at a different point in time, a star system civilization suddenly had its number of higher beings quadruple, and upon investigating, the discovery of a hidden dimension was found to be the cause.

Thus, both words soon became synonymous to a land of treasure, intensifying the fervour of many to search for them.

With stargates invented, an era was thus born where spaceships sailed across star fields daily without conflict.

It was an era of peaceful travel where civilizations visited and formed amicable relations with one another as thanks to the communicator, every part of the known universe was now connected.

One where the universe was explored but without much conflict.

Hence the term ’Interstellar’

With communication possible across all parts of the known universe, things developed far faster, seeing to the creation of the multiple inventions that circulated the intergalactic market very quickly.

Thus catalyzing the completion of the galactic society as the market stretched beyond star fields, providing basically infinite business opportunities which in turn led to development in every sector as people sought more and more ways to make money.

It was in this way that inter star-field media companies came into existence, alongside financial instruments like stock markets that encompassed the activities of a whole star field and of course-with the aim of properly circulating universal currency-a central bank was founded by the four universal civilizations with innumerable branches scattered across all star-fields.

But all had not settled, as it was at this time that another massive event occurred, one that catalyzed the theme of the next era.

No one knows neither where it came nor why it did, but at some point in time, a foreign, pitch black essence flooded the space between sufficiently distanced star zones, galaxies, galaxy clusters and of course, star fields as well.

Maintaining both physical and corporeal properties, the black essence gave the feeling of a well-made illusion, and it continuously moved, flowing like water, like a sea.

The energy was termed astral, and this was how the Astral Sea came to be.

But of course, it appeared not alone, but bearing a whole package of surprises.

The worst amongst them; Astral Beasts.

Within the astral sea were beasts of a ghastly nature.

Whilst some speculated that these beasts are born within, clear evidence to prove the theory is yet to be found and no sources have been able to concretely prove their origins.

Half physical and half corporeal, their abhorrent appearance instinctively provoked fear in every other being, as they oozed astral energy and sucked on it to grow stronger.

One of their favourite activities was eating stars and planets at every given chance, as that made them grow more powerful, much faster.

Not that they minded eating spaceships or even people-they treated everything with the fervour to devour.

Making them both monstrosities and a nightmare for many civilizations as many millions died to their voracious jaws.

Creatures of Chaos-this is what the universe came to know them as.

The only saving grace was that they lacked a lot in number, making encounters relatively uncommon.

Though they more than made up for it in individual power.

In time, other species were forced to put aside their squabbles in face of such a massive threat and devised weapons against the beasts before counterattacking.

None was spared as even paragons had participated, fighting as one to repel the fearsome beasts.

Dubbed the ’Astral War’ because it took place within the astral sea, it was a bloody affair that took a span of just a bit above ten years.

A very short time in the scheme of things.

But all those who lived through it would tell you that it felt like a hundred years.

All civilizations suffered during this period as higher beings died like flies, regardless of rank.

At the worst of it, even a paragon was lost while the rest sustained varying injuries.

The one-eyed Titan was never seen again.

But because not even his bones were ever found, it is speculated by a few that he still lives on.

Much was lost, but the threat the astral beasts possessed decreased by a large margin.

The existence of such a massive external threat reduced the significance of internal problems.

With the astral sea in place, all civilizations were forced to work together to create clear routes for travel as a precaution against astral beasts, and as that happened, the communicator and interpreter made it such that information circulated very fast.

When all was said and done, these phenomenons brought people together and sped up the creation of what was later recognized as the galactic society.

But with strength now more than ever, the focus of power shifted from hoarding resources to finding talents to utilize them.

With crisis came opportunity as the threat of astral beasts was what catalyzed the founding of the mercenary alliance.

That last bit wasn’t written in the books-Zydrax told him.

Back to history, with the threats of astral beasts looming, civilizations united, but not haphazardly.

With the strongest civilization of a particular race designated as leader, variant races gathered behind.

Meaning all other titan civilizations gathered behind the Gold-Titan universe civilization, while all other dragon and vampire civilizations gathered behind the Energite dragons and Bloodbourne Vampires respectively...

Ezra paused as his breath came to a halt.

’You were from a universal civilization?! Why didn’t you tell me?!’

[You wouldn’t have understood even if I did. You would just ask why it was important...and honestly, I’ve grown tired of long explanations] Zydrax replied.

He continued. [Now, you see why I was so sceptical to choose a champion...Anyways, does this mean you’re going to give on enacting my revenge]

Ezra remained silent for a whole minute, before shaking his head.

’Nope. Actually, this make me more confident’

[Eh...Why?]

’Because now I’m sure. You have to sincerely work to make me stronger’

[Wait a minute] Zydrax felt incredulous. [Don’t tell me you’re still doubting me...]

’I trust you Zydrax. But it’s always good to have assurance’

[Wow...] Zydrax was speechless.

’No matter what, it puts my heart at ease’

Ezra shrugged and got back to reading.

With strength as the deciding factor, the strongest faction in the entire race automatically took up the ’Main race’ while all others were ’Branch races’ or ’Variants’

As each race lined up behind those in the strongest position, it became a battle amongst races as the lines of civilizations blurred.

Soon enough, it mattered not the strongest civilization, but the strongest individual in a race.

After all, at the end of it all, without sufficiently powerful individuals at the helm, astral beasts would have them all for lunch.

As such, inclusion in a race became a matter of integrating bloodlines and resources were allocated to any who proved a superior talent in cultivating.

No longer was it merely a battle for supremacy, but a battle for survival, to ensure their continuation of one’s bloodline.

Thanks to the Astral war, too many civilizations were already on the verge of extinction.

Thus, talent for cultivation became the new currency for power as more than enough resources had been gathered.

Here another phenomenon was unearthed; the appearance of new dimensions, but these ones looked unnatural.

You then had races that had never been seen before appearing out of the blue, supposedly from within these unnatural dimensions.

Worse, they had ghastly outlooks and abilities just like astral beasts, becoming another headache for civilizations.

This signalled the end of the interstellar era after just two thousand five hundred seventy nine years-making it the shortest so far, but with the greatest impact, though some argue the warring era was more impactful.

Thus, bringing forth the fifth and current era. freeweɓnøvel.com

The Cultivation Era.
