Rise Of The Infinite Sovereign-Chapter 364: Universe History 101
Chapter 364: Universe History 101
Learning anew, Ezra read from the ground up, starting from the origins, and the librarian happened to know just the book.
Titled ’Universe History series’ it held the widest collection of universe history second only to the galactic web.
Pulling out the first book of the series, titled ’Universe History 101’, Ezra got reading.
As one would expect, the galactic society didn’t always exist.
Rather, when placed on the overall timeline of era’s, it came into existence fairly recently.
Scholars used events to mark eras, plot the chart of universal growth and mark the stages of galactic development.
Split in five, you had the discovery Era, the exploration Era, the warring Era, the interstellar Era, and the cultivation Era-which was the current era.
The discovery era signified the appearance of the first set of Transcendents, which in turn catalyzed contact between planets and far broader understanding of the outer world in general. Hence, the Era of discovery.
Acting on their advantage, nearby planets were conquered in rapid succession, with the original habitants being either assimilated to be integrated as a vassal civilization or driven towards extinction.
Wars were rarely fought in this era particularly thanks to the lack of knowledge or ignorance of planetary inhabitants.
During this era, Transcendents presented themselves as a higher being, as they themselves were none the wiser, and as were often able to easily captivate inhabitants whilst easily wiping out rebellious forces.
Moreover, the civilizations that produced Transcendents were far apart by at least a few galaxies, if not further, so the probability of two opposing Transcendents meeting in this era was infinitely miniscule.
As such the discovery era proceeded in a peaceful manner, characterized with slow but unceasing progress.
It spanned a total of approximately fifteen thousand years that by the end of it, tens of solar system level civilizations had fully established themselves, most of them having engineered their first generation products for space travel-meaning spaceships had come into existence!
A few exceptional civilizations had already broken through that stage, heading towards the ranks of a galaxy level entity having conquered more than one solar system, setting voyage beyond nearby solar systems (star zones)
This marked the end of the discovery era and the beginning of the Exploration era.
Whilst not widely purported, it is believed by a section of scholars that the first Nascent arrived at this point in time.
This era spanned at least ten thousand years, pertaining to the nature of interstellar voyage at the time.
With stargates not yet invented, each voyage took at least four months, while the normal range was two to ten years.
Not to mention the quality of spaceships at the time, lack of knowledge to prepare for unforeseen circumstances and most importantly, the limited distance of interstellar communication at the time, which lead to many spaceships never returning, even on short voyages.
As such, Transcendents were also frequently tasked with such missions, ensuring their safe return even in the event that the spaceship was destroyed.
It is to be emphasized that most civilizations could only rely on luck whenever releasing a spaceship beyond known territory because of the level of technology at the time.
To the lucky ones, new territory was discovered nearby, whilst others could only make long voyages of a distance of either five, ten and even up to twenty years mapping out their surroundings, only to achieve very little beyond an extension of the civilization’s Atlas.
At this juncture, a divide formed.
For the lucky civilizations, they focused their resources on conquering the newly discovered territory, solidifying their authority before then extorting its resources for their benefit-a process which would take at least five hundred years to complete.
Without the knowledge of their foes’ existence, there was little pressure for such civilizations and as such, the conquest proceeded at a somewhat leisure pace, even the deadline for completion was set beyond eight hundred years at least.
On the other hand, the unlucky civilizations were pressured to quickly improve interstellar transportation, resulting in faster, stealthier spaceships with their upgraded firepower and even longer communication lines.
This difference in priority between civilizations was a crucial factor to the events of the next era as it led one side to staunchly focus on burning resources to acquire territory whilst the other side was focused on bolstering their production capabilities.
As this went on, some voyagers chanced upon territories that belonged to other advanced civilizations, and were either captured before being used to trace their civilizations location or fortunate enough to return alive and report.
Like so, the first set of advanced civilizations-advanced in this context meant capable of interstellar travel-crossed paths.
Scholars dubbed this event the ’Contact Point’
As one would expect, with neither side willing to take a step back, war broke out almost instantly, marking a significant milestone in progress of civilizations and a major turning point for the entire universe.
The end of the exploration era neared as this event served as a prelude of the next one.
The warring era!
At this point, nascents had come into existence, and they played crucial roles in the war.
As the wars went on, battle lines shifted incessantly, expanding and shrinking at a moment’s notice.
Thanks to the divide caused by the different prioritized goals, most battles were that of quantity against quality as the lucky civilizations sucked out resources from conquered planets to combat the superior armaments of the unlucky civilizations.
In this situation, the moniker of lucky and unlucky was swapped.
The ’lucky’ civilizations were forced onto the back foot most times as their quantity difference was unable to offset the effect of the enemy’s qualitative advancement.
Originally preoccupied with the expansion of territory, the ’lucky’ civilizations had burned through tons of resources, moreover, with no intentions to extend the territory once more, they were ill prepared for a war.
Factories responsible for building spaceships were nowhere near enough to take advantage of the large amount of resources and convert it into actual combat power.
Furthermore, many policies and traditions made sure the job of building spaceships was perceived as a most prestigious top of the line job, and then to further segregate those with those able to access it by placing stringent requirements such as many certificates and sufficient background.
Thus, when the ’lucky’ civilizations found themselves in a hole, a black hole called war, most of them were woefully unprepared, falling a step behind in every aspect against their opponents thanks to their bundle of bad decisions.
Their only advantage was that they had a larger amount of higher beings thanks to having more resources.
Despite this, they put up desperate struggles of resistance before inevitably being defeated.
After all, even higher beings couldn’t turn the tides on their lonesome.
The war left massive destruction in its wake.
Thousands of spaceships were destroyed, and picking up these signs, other solar system civilizations noticed the activity.
Like so, more and more civilizations bumped into one another, a chain of conflict eventually formed, where multiple civilizations bumped into one another and like wildfire, war spread, signalling the end of an era and the beginning of another.
The warring era.
As implied, the overall theme of this era was war.
Countless battles, both big and small were waged, and because of the amount of civilizations involved, the situation spiralled out of control before long.
Whilst civilizations fought, it formed a chain that eventually spread beyond a single galaxy cluster to others, at the time, alerting civilizations to the existence of others in the beyond.
Like wildfire, the war spread beyond every part of the known universe, which was thirteen star fields at the time.
At the same time, it became a period of rapid development as all civilizations vied for warfare superiority, with the limit of higher beings continuously stretched.
Sure enough, weapons capable of planetary destruction were invented in this era, thoroughly changing warfare as the scale of casualties spiked significantly.
During this time, the first few galaxy level civilizations appeared, leading the way for wars across galaxy clusters.
But then, things took a complete turn when the first constellation appeared.
It is said that whilst on the verge of death, the burning desire to protect his race let a nascent ascend by sheer will alone, changing the course of not just the war, but the Era.
With the ability to destroy a planet in a single attack coupled with extreme speed, they became strategic weapons even more dangerous than planet-destroying ships, changing the course of war in a way none could have predicted.
Their arrival sped up the progress of the war as many civilizations were quickly defeated, giving headway to the rise of the first few galaxy cluster level civilizations to come into existence.
But all was not done.
When most civilizations had been subjugated, a ceasefire of a thousand years was agreed upon by the top civilizations after almost eight thousand years of constant battle.
Scholars dubbed this ’The Pause’
It signified the midpoint of the warring era.
With the top civilizations deciding, the civilizations below dare not comply.
After all, annihilation was very much a possibility during this time.
As such, all civilizations took a breather in this time of relative peacefulness, as a reshuffling took place with a formal governance and communication system being established between the top civilizations and their vassal civilizations, preluding the theme of the next era.
It was also during this time that interracial cohabitation started to occur frequently, giving rise to a large number of variant races.
After a thousand and two hundred years, the top civilizations began to take heavy jabs at one another once again.
Even during the ceasefire, they never really stopped fighting, but only took light jabs to restrict one another.
Now, having consolidated their rule and authority over a thousand years, they decided to begin battling anew to decide the overall winner, as none of them were satisfied being on the same level as the others.
Thus, starting the second half of the warring era.
Dubbed ’The Supremacy War’, it engulfed all the star fields and went on a bit above four thousand years.
Beyond the universe civilizations, many smaller civilizations had also grown tired of the status quo and joined the fun to flip the tables.
Of course, very few were crazy enough to attack the top civilizations, as they would most likely be annihilated, so they attacked neighbouring rivals instead to snatch territory.
The universe entered turmoil once more, setting a stage where civilizations showcased the results of their efforts over the last thousand years.
During this time, methods of warfare morphed countless times as constellations dabbled in the weapons creation to produce all sorts of armaments, both big and small.
Realm towers, Soul and Ego weapons, psionic bombs, black hole generators, and numerous other inventions were first created at this point in time.
But their dominance lasted a bit over a thousand years at most before things changed once more as the first paragon appeared, coming from one of the top civilizations-Dragons.
Thanks to the overwhelming power the paragon showcased, the supremacy war took a drastic turn with Dragons gaining ground so fast that other top civilizations were forced to form alliances with each other to hold them back.
With the first in existence, it took only three hundred years before the second paragon came into existence, this time from a different universe civilization - Vampires.
At this time, the Dragons had driven all top civilizations into a corner, but with this, they were able to begin a meaningful counterattack with the paragons holding each other at bay.
It was a situation where the dragons fought against the combined might of all the others, and as such, were inevitably pushed back.
A third paragon came into existence eight hundred years after the second, changing the dynamics of the war once more.
More so, because this one didn’t come from any of the established top class civilization!
It came from a galaxy level civilization of Dreamers, termed so because of their ability to bend reality with a small range, creating a ’dream’
But by this time, the Dreamer civilization had elevated themselves to the doorstep of a universal civilization.
Before that, their paragon had kept her existence hidden for three hundred years, elevating her civilization from the shadows by doing dirty work.
Interfering to help them win battles, kill off potential dangers, gather resources, and cultivate other higher beings.
With her appearance, the war took a strange turn once more as the races with paragons-Dragons, Vampires and Dreamers-joined hands and turned against the rest of the top level civilizations.
But just fifty years later, the fourth paragon was born.
It was a Titan, specifically a one-eyed titan.
Whilst indignant at the losses his civilization had incurred at the hands of the other three races, one paragon couldn’t win against three.
On the other hand, while the three could definitely kill the newly appeared paragon, they would undoubtedly suffer many wounds, so none were willing.
After all, injuries would leave them susceptible to being betrayed and killed by the others.
As such, the titan’s civilization joined the winning side and together, they brought all the other civilizations to their knees in a mere three hundred years and annihilated those unyielding.
Thus ending the Supremacy War.
With that concluded, all four civilizations were thus elevated to the status of universe civilizations.
By the end of the war, you had a lot of winners and many more losers.
Quite a few civilizations had elevated themselves to a level only below the universe civilizations and many more had fallen to lower levels.
But the battles had yet to end, as it took the four civilizations an extra three hundred years to consolidate and solidify their authority across all known star fields.
Mostly because whilst the universal civilizations had been decided, those beneath were not, and because their numbers were not something even universal civilizations could look down on, they simply left them to keep fighting.
They fanned the flames from behind, sometimes taking personal action.
After all, the more they damaged each other, the less power they would have to cause trouble for the universal civilizations later.
Eventually it was forcefully settled by the universal civilizations and issued a universal ceasefire. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Giving each civilization much needed space to catch their breath, whilst inadvertently setting the hierarchy of civilizations in place at the same time.
This signalled the end of the warring era as the universe ushered in a time of peace and stable development.
It was the eve of the interstellar era.
