Chapter 455: Chapter 455. A Rescue Sub-Mission

Inside Gu Clan’s estate, Wu Di and Yang Li were hiding near the activity building. Two new guards were standing at its entrance. Four people from the clan had been missing since yesterday, but the Gu Clan didn’t bother much about them. Those four were not exactly important members.

Wu Di and Yang Li stayed hidden in the darkness of the night while they waited. The thing they had been waiting for finally occurred. A loud booming sound was heard from the other side of the estate. There was a huge explosion at the back of the Gu Mansion. The fire after the explosion could be seen from the activity building.

The two guards at the entrance immediately headed over, as did many other clan members from all over the estate.

Wu Di and Yang Li didn’t move from their hiding place. They continued to wait. Around one minute after the explosion, a group of people rushed out of the activity building. After that group of people, Wu Di and Yang Li waited for another minute before they moved.

"Let’s go," Wu Di said.

They ran to the open door and peeked inside. No one was present, so they went in.

Thanks to Amon’s information, they already knew the location of the stairs to the basement. They wasted no time to head there. They needed to move fast. The explosion just now was a distraction caused by Xin Wuming using several exploding talismans. This drew Gu Clan members’ attention, but it wouldn’t last long. They had a short window before the people from this activity building decided to return.

They ran down the stairs. When they were about to reach the landing in the basement, Yang Li grabbed Wu Di and stopped him.

Wu Di was puzzled at first but then his Mystic Sense noticed the faint aura of an enchantment on the floor where the stairs ended. There were concealed words of power, probably something that would sound the alarm if uninvited people stepped on the floor.

Wu Di gave a thanking nod to Yang Li. The two then used their Mystic Stage power to float. Their senses informed them that the enchantment was a low-level one that affected only the floor. As long as they didn’t touch the floor, they should be fine.

They floated over to the other end of the room and entered a long hallway.

"Why don’t you give up already and tell me everything? I know you are here under the kingdom’s order," a woman in a traditional robe stood before Yi Chaisan, who was bound to a chair with an engraved rope. Next to the woman was a hunchbacked man.

"Damn you, Weixing. I thought we were friends. How despicable for you to deceive me," Yi Chaisan cursed the woman.

Gu Weixing laughed mockingly, "Haha. What a pathetic little thing you are. We met a few times. I commissioned you to install an enchantment for my private use, and that makes us buddies? Are you so lacking in friends that you consider everyone you ever worked for as a friend? Grow up, you pitiful woman."

Yi Chaisan could only grit her teeth at the insult. He was utterly furious. She had trusted this woman before her. She approached her and revealed her identity because she thought it meant something. She told her she wanted to help her clan if she could convince her clan to stop their insurgency. The next thing she knew, she was hit from behind with the meridian points technique that made her unconscious.

When she woke up, she was inside this basement. She had been interrogated and tortured since then, but she refused to tell them their plan. She didn’t know how long she could endure this interrogation, though. She hoped Amon and the others could have completed their mission before then.

But could they? She was supposed to be the one who unraveled the enchantment that prevented someone from opening the main gate. She now regretted her decision not to stay put like Amon told her to. Her eagerness to help had instead jeopardized their mission. It was too late to turn back the time now.

"It seems you are still unwilling to cooperate," Gu Weixing uttered. She gestured to the hunchbacked man by the side of the room.

The man picked up a branding iron lying on a burning fire by the corner of the room. Its tip was red hot from heat. He then came over to Yi Chaisan.

"No... No! Stay away! Stay aw–aahhhh...!!!" She screamed when the man pressed the red-hot tip onto her naked arm. A sizzling sound was heard. On that same arm, there were many burnt marks caused by the same branding iron.

When the man removed the iron, a new mark was created. Yi Chaisan stopped screaming. She panted out of exhaustion. novelbuddy.cσ๓

"We can do this all day," Gu Weixing said. "Do you want that? Why don’t you just tell us everything and end this suffering? Tell me how you get into this city. How many people came here with you, and who they are. Most importantly, what do you intend to do here. Tell me those, and you don’t have to suffer anymore."

Yi Chaisan slowly looked up. Hatred filled her eyes. She used her remaining strength and spat at Gu Weixing.

Gu Weixing didn’t expect the defiance. The spit failed to hit her face, but it fell on her robe. She looked at her soiled clothes in disgust. She advanced furiously and slapped Yi Chaisan multiple times. All the while yelling, "You want to suffer, do you? You want to get hurt? If that is what you want, I will give you pain!"

Gu Weixing snatched the branding iron from the hunchbacked man’s hand and pierced it into Yi Chaisan’s tight.

"Aaarrhhh...!!!" Yi Chaisan’s scream echoed throughout the room.

"You will tell me what I want, bitch! Or you will be my plaything for the rest of your..."

Gu Weixing didn’t finish her sentence because she sensed something outside the room.

"Mang Xu!" She called as she whirled back, just when something crashed through the room’s wooden door.

The things that broke through the door were the two guards stationed outside. When the guards hit the floor, Gu Weixing could see they were already lifeless. These two guards were Intermediate Transformation Stage cultivators. Considering they were taken out the instant she sensed the intrusion, the intruders should at least be at the Mystic Stage. She quickly readied her weapon, a bladed fan. She also activated defensive art, Iron Skin.

The hunchbacked man, Mang Xu, also readied himself. A long stick with a metal claw attached to its end materialized in his hands. Flame blazed along this long rod.

Wu Di and Yang Li burst in from the broken door. They wasted no time. Wu Di charged toward Gu Weixing while Yang Li headed to Mang Xu.

After becoming a soldier, Wu Di familiarized himself with using a weapon. The weapon he chose was a glaive. The long weapon crisscrossed with lightning speed. The aggressive assault forced Gu Weixing into a defensive state.

"Beginning Mystic Stage?" Gu Weixing uttered after sensing the power behind Wu Di’s assault. "One who has just reached the stage even. You have the guts to cause trouble here."

Gu Weixing was a Peak Mystic Stage cultivator. A powerful shockwave exploded from her, stopping Wu Di’s assault. Several sharp energy waves erupted from her bladed fan. Wu Di frantically used his long glaive to parry the sharp waves. He managed to prevent himself from receiving a fatal hit, but multiple parts of his body were sliced by the waves. Within a short instant, blood covered his body.

Mang Xu wasn’t as powerful as Gu Weixing but was also a Beginning Mystic Stage cultivator like Yang Li. After their first clash, he knew his opponent had become a Mystic Stage cultivator only recently. This bolstered his confidence. His claw stick flashed against his opponent, accompanied by a raging flame.

However, Yang Li exuded even more intense flames from her arms. From the heat, Mang Xu knew at once his flame was not Yang Li’s opponent. Even for someone who regularly played with fire like him, he was forced to step back from the heat.

Yang Li used claw weapons, but not her old ones. Her claw weapons used to be Tuang Yin’s. Amon gave the weapon to her after Tuang Yin’s passing. These claw weapons were better than her old weapons. They were high-tier engraved weapons. They had chains attached, allowing Yang Li to use them as ranged weapons.

Yang Li threw one of the claws when Mang Xu retreated. Mang Xu dodged the throw, but Yang Li pulled the chain, causing the claw to target the back of Mang Xu’s head. Mang Xu used his claw stick to parry. It saved him from getting hit, but the claw was as if alive. It clutched Mang Xu’s stick weapon and refused to let it go.
