Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 409. Escaping the City Hall
Chapter 409: Chapter 409. Escaping the City Hall
Amon didn’t say anything to Diao Xin. He could see from her expression that she understood their situation. Lazy people needed a push. For someone already going all out like her, rushing her using words would just disrupt her concentration.
Fifteen minutes later, another person walked past. Luckily, this one passed without suspecting anything. This person also didn’t notice the talismans on the ceiling. He was reading a book while walking.
Five minutes after that, a hissing sound was heard. Amon turned and saw the words of power on the door’s surface slowly vanish.
"Yes!" Diao Xin exclaimed. She quickly covered her mouth. She feared her excited voice might attract people.
The golden key appeared in Amon’s hand. He used the key and unlocked the door. When he opened the door, he and Diao Xin saw a mountain of aer stones.
"My... God...," Diao Xin uttered. This was the first time they saw so many aer stones.
"Watch the hallway!" Amon ordered. He entered the vault and closed the door while Diao Xin remained outside.
Diao Xin turned around and assumed the guard position. Their roles had reversed now. She stood guard while Amon worked inside. She did wonder, though. How would Amon take all those aer stones? One cultivator had a limit to the number of space rings they could use. From what she saw when the door opened, she wouldn’t be surprised if a hundred space rings were required to move the aer stones inside.
A commotion drew her attention. She became alarmed when this commotion sounded like it was approaching. She did rapid knocks on the vault’s door, informing Amon of the urgency.
A group of people appeared from the corner of the hallway. Diao Xin recognized engraver’s partner in the group. Two men in guard uniforms were also in the group. At the same time this group came out of the corner, Amon walked out of the vault’s door. Both sides froze as they watched one another.
The realization that the vault’s door was opened immediately dawned on the group. The guard in the group pointed while yelling, "Intruders...!!!"
"Go!" Amon exclaimed. He grabbed Diao Xin’s arm and dashed in the opposite direction from the group. As he passed by the talismans he placed earlier, he touched them lightly to activate them.
"Stop them! Sound the alarm...!" The guards in the group chased Amon and Diao Xin while a couple ran back to call for help. The rest of the group ran to the open vault door and checked inside. Their eyes turned wide when they saw that the inside was completely empty.
Their shock was interrupted by an explosive sound. They turned and saw the hall the intruders had run to had just exploded. The two guards who chased the intruders were buried under the collapsed rubble.
"We need to hurry!" Amon told Diao Xin. He was still pulling her. His speed was much faster. If he let her run on her own, she would get left behind.
He already memorized this city hall layout. He was using the shortest path to the back door, where they entered from earlier. It had less security that way. However, he needed to reach the back door before the head of security in this city hall activated the lockdown enchantment. If the lockdown was activated, the words of power along the outer wall of the city hall would erect a barrier that prevented anyone from leaving or entering.
The head of security of the city hall was the Beginning Spirit Stage cultivator with full-time responsibilities inside the building. The question now was how far away the head of security was from his office when the alarm sounded. If he was in the office, he could activate the lockdown immediately. That would be bad for Amon and Diao Xin.
Unlike the high-sounding and attention-grabbing method he used to escape the jail, Amon’s original escape plan this time relied on stealth. If everything went perfectly, he and Diao Xin would be out before anyone realized the vault had been breached.
Things had certainly not gone perfectly, but he was also not one who lamented on what could have been. He planned the timing to infiltrate at night not only to use the cover of the night but also for a different reason. According to the Vice Mayor, the head of security enjoyed walking around the inner courtyard of the city hall while drinking wine around midnight. If anything went wrong, it would take him some time to go to his office.
Amon hoped the guy stuck to his habit tonight.
The high-pitched sound of the alarm sounded. When they heard the alarm, the back door was also in sight.
"Moment of truth," Amon uttered. If the golden key could not open the door, then they were fucked. But considering the words of power along the wall hadn’t glowed, he was hopeful.
Amon had the golden key in his hand, ready to insert it into the keyhole once he reached the door. That’s when he heard a loud voice.
"Stop!!"
He turned and saw three guards approaching. His Mystic sense quickly scanned the three.
’One Peak Mystic Stage and two Peak Transformation Stage,’ he thought.
"Open the door!" Amon handed the golden key to Diao Xin, who was still getting pulled by him.
Diao Xin had been gritting her teeth, enduring the pain since they started running. Getting dragged by the arm at high speed was not a comfortable experience. Amon stepped it up further by flinging her toward the door after she grabbed the key. She let out a yelp due to the sudden throw. Thankfully, her reaction was not slow. She quickly balanced herself and used her feet to prevent slamming into the door.
At the same time Amon threw Diao Xin toward the door, he also threw flying knives at the three incoming opponents.
His flying knives stopped the two Transformation Stage guards but not the Peak Mystic Stage guard. The Peak Mystic Stage guard spun his body. An energy field followed his spin and deflected the flying knives targeting him.
"Tsk!" A common dagger appeared in Amon’s hand. He used the body-strengthening meridian points technique.
Under the circumstances, he was severely handicapped. He could not freely use his weapons and arts. His Alpha Flying Knives, Xian Cloth, and ceremonial dagger were too unique, and so was his transformation art. They could easily be used to identify him. He could only use weapons and arts that were less rare.
He used Infinite Phantom Slash. The Mystic Stage guard executed a martial art that turned his fists into a hundred whizzing punches. The sword lights and fists collided with each other. The exchange ended when Amon spotted an opening and sent Bone Shattering Shadow Fist through the opening. The guard blocked the punch using a palm strike. Both sides were knocked back by the impact.
The guard was shocked. He sensed that Amon was only a transformation stage cultivator. He expected to finish Amon in an instant. He couldn’t believe Amon could fight him to a draw.
"It’s open!" Amon heard Diao Xin call from behind.
The two Transformation Stage guards had circled from the sides to get to Diao Xin. Amon threw his flying knives to stop the two while jumping toward the door at the same time. "Leave!" He told her.
"Not so fast!" The Mystic Stage guard exclaimed. He shot forward again. However, he suddenly found a moon wolf materializing before him when he got near Amon.
The moon wolf immediately went for his head. Its open maw was about to bite a chunk of his face when he used a movement art and transported himself away. He was now above the moon wolf. He punched down and struck the wolf’s back. The wolf was rammed into the ground. His fist continued and pierced through the wolf’s body, crushing his organs and killing it instantly.
The moon wolf was just a mid-superior beast, after all. It was not a match for a Peak Mystic Stage cultivator. Amon sacrificed his tamed beast to widen the gap between him and the guard.
The guard shot toward the open door after slaying the beast. Even though the two intruders were out of the building, he could still pursue them. He just had to keep them in sight while calling the patrolling guards. The two intruders could no longer flee once they were surrounded.
However, as he exited the door, his attention was drawn to a small ball headed towards him. Believing it was another throwing weapon, he used his fist to slap the ball away. The ball exploded upon impact, releasing a blinding light and a thundering noise. The abruptness not only robbed him of his sight and hearing but also caused his Mystic Sense to lose its target.
He lost Amon not only because of the Flashbang Grenade but because Amon amplified his Concealed Ghost Body to the fullest. As for Diao Xin, the guard’s sense wasn’t home in on her, and she was further away. A mystic stage sense had a limited distance and required a conscious effort to detect distant targets. Hence, he didn’t know her position as well.
By the time he regained sight, the two intruders were nowhere to be seen.freёwebnoѵel.com
