"I’ll be damned...," Luan Xuan uttered.

He was observing Qishurg City on top of a nearby hill. They could see the city in flames. The spirit beasts were still ravaging the city while the defenders struggled futilely to contain the damage. He was there with several other rebel members, among whom were the two other rebel elders, Ni Lulu and Pan Lohuan. This assault on Qishurg City was a big operation for them, hence their presence.

"How far away is the reinforcement from the kingdom army?" Ni Lulu asked one of her subordinates.

"From our scout’s message one hour ago, the nearest should still be three days away."

"Three days are for the bulk of the army. The higher echelons might ride fast mounts that allow them to arrive tomorrow or even half a day from now," Pan Lohuan remarked.

"Damn it, so we don’t have the chance to pillage this city?" Ni Lulu said. "Perhaps we should just sneak in now and steal what we can?"

"There are too many spirit beasts inside. We will suffer if we go in," Pan Lohuan replied. "No need for such greed. For the kingdom to lose this major city is already a great victory for us."

He turned to his subordinate and said, "Remember to spread the rumor. Tell everyone this is our doing. With this triumph, we will show everyone that the kingdom is not invincible."

"Yeah! Those clans who have a grudge against the kingdom but are too spineless to join us may change their minds after this. Haha!" Luan Xuan laughed.

"We will have to thank your associate, Sui Kui." Ni Lulu turned to Sui Kui, who stood away from the rebel group.

Sui Kui was watching the city with a mixed feeling. Though he was at the center of the plan, he wasn’t truly involved in the plan. All he did was deliver the sealed letters between Amon and the rebel elders. He was not privy to their contents.

It was during the last delivery, when the rebel elders told him to stay with them instead of returning to Qishurg City, that he realized something big was going on. If he had known, he might have warned some of his friends, especially the girls at the brothel he liked to spend time with.

"Are you still not going to introduce us to him?" Luan Xuan asked.

Sui Kui shook his head. "He preferred to be anonymous."

"Or perhaps he doesn’t trust us," Ni Lulu uttered.

Sui Kui could only smile wryly in response.

"It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t trust us," Pan Lohuan said. "As long as he had the same goal as us and he can help us hurt the kingdom, we will work with him."

"So, the test run is complete. We should prepare for our true target now," Ni Lulu said.

"True target?" Sui Kui asked.

"With a weapon like this, do you think our target is a measly Qishurg City?" Luan Xuan uttered. "This is just a test to see if the Allure Beacon works. It was your associate who suggested this test run. Now that we all see the result, we will move on to our true target. The capital, the Golden Stone City!"

"The... The capital...," Sui Kui stammered. All this time, he only helped the rebels for profit. He was never truly sympathetic to their ideal. In truth, he never thought the rebels could do any actual harm to the kingdom. After this incident, he had a different view. He wondered if it was wise to continue involving himself in this matter.

"Haha! It seems your associate also doesn’t trust you enough to let you in on the plan, does he?" Luan Xuan laughed.

"Go and contact your associate, Sui Kui," Pan Lohuan commanded. "Tell him we are ready to move on to the capital. All we need is the lure bags. We will lure strong beasts from the wilderness with those bags."

"How does he make those lure bags anyway? Even our expert-level pill masters cannot produce it," Ni Lulu asked.

"They can’t produce it not because of their expertise," Pan Lohuan answered. "It is because it is made of several unknown ingredients."

Amon made the lure bags by modifying Beast Nectar’s recipe. He made those lure bags using the Primordial Blue Lotus’ nectar combined with several spirit plants from his plantation.

"Tell your associate we need as many lure bags as possible," Pan Lohuan told Sui Kui. "The capital is larger than Qishurg City. It also has more defenders and a stationed army inside the city. We probably need at least five to six times the swarm attacking this city to make an impact on the capital."

Sui Kui only nodded in response.

"Go," Luan Xuan ordered.

Sui Kui didn’t need more urging. He hurriedly went away. When he had gone a certain distance, Pan Lohuan turned to his subordinates and nodded. Two of his subordinates secretly followed Sui Kui. Now that it was proven that Sui Kui’s associate truly had the Allure Beacon, they wanted to learn the person’s identity.

*

Sui Kui was walking away from Qishurg City. His home there was most likely destroyed already. He honestly didn’t know where to go. Thankfully, the woods were devoid of spirit beasts as they had all been drawn to the city.

The rebel elders asked him to contact Amon, but he decided he no longer wanted anything to do with this. He would go to the nearest town and figure out what to do from there. He probably had to leave the country. The rebels would certainly look for him because they wanted to communicate with Amon. He also couldn’t turn himself in to the kingdom. If they knew he had anything to do with this spirit beast invasion, they would never let him off.

With his mind filled with anxious thoughts, he didn’t notice someone standing ahead of him. It was only when he almost bumped into the person that he was aware.

"Lin... Lin Mo...?" He greeted the person. "How do you find me?"

Amon shrugged. "I figure you should be in the vicinity. How did the meeting go with the rebels."

"They... They want to speak to you. They are on the hill over there," Sui Kui answered.

"Oh? You no longer want to be the middleman?" Amon asked.

"I... I have urgent business that might take me away for a long time, so I won’t be able to deliver your letters anymore. Look at the bright side. You will save a lot of aer stones if you deal with the rebels directly."

"Hm, do the rebels already know who I am?"

"No, but they are eager to get to know you."

Amon nodded. "In other words, you are the only one who knows I’m involved in all this."

"Yes, for now, I am..." Sui Kui stopped speaking. He suddenly had a disquieting thought.

"What’s wrong," Amon asked.

"No–Nothing," Sui Kui answered nervously. "You... You should hurry to that hill. If you hurry, you can still catch the rebels. They want to talk to you about the next target."

"There is no next target. The Allure Beacon can only be used one time."

"Allu... Allure Beacon?"

"It’s the artifact used to draw the spirit beasts into Qishurg City," Amon explained.

"I see... Well, this has nothing to do with me. I will take my leave now," Sui Kui said and walked away.

He kept on looking back at Amon. He was worried Amon would chase him, but Amon didn’t move from his spot. When he turned back for the fifth time, Amon was no longer there. He immediately broke into a run. But just as he started running, something fast burst toward him from nearby shrubs.

It was a multi-tailed fox. Its sharp claws were aiming for his throat. Out of good reflex, he jumped back and escaped from having his throat ripped out. He survived the ambush from the front, but a black flash zipped past his neck from behind.

Amon stored his ceremonial dagger as Sui Kui’s head fell to the ground. Amon returned Lin Li to the black space ring before picking up Sui Kui’s head and body. He took the corpse to nearby shrubs. Behind those shrubs were two other corpses. Those corpses were Pan Lohuan’s subordinates who followed Sui Kui. Amon had taken care of them before meeting Sui Kui.

Amon took out a bottle of Flesh Melting Poison and poured it on the corpses. When the bodies started melting, Bo Wu came out and protested.

"I can clean those corpses up. Why not let me do it?"

"Because I don’t let you do it," Amon answered.

Bo Wu’s response to the answer was diving to the ground and swallowing the three melting corpses. Only half of each corpse was left when he did that.

When Bo Wu saw Amon’s scowl, it said, "What? I’m still recovering after you made me block that hit from the Peak Spirit Stage cultivator. This is the least you can offer to compensate me."

Amon didn’t argue with Bo Wu. After several times letting Bo Wu consume, he sensed Bo Wu grow stronger by feeding. He didn’t believe the Dark God fused Bo Wu to him purely for his sake. There might be a hidden agenda. That’s why he didn’t want this hitchhiker beast to grow stronger.

However, what happened just now also proved that he had no control over Bo Wu. This hell beast could choose to disobey him if it wished to.

Amon chose not to concern himself too much about this. He had no method of removing Bo Wu for now, so he had no choice but to leave it be.

He looked at Qishurg City again. He stared at it for a while. His business with that city was over. It was time for the next Chapter of his journey in this world. He turned and walked away.
