Chapter 384: Chapter 384. Emergency Escape Route

"Vile creature, I will take your life!" Yan Wang exclaimed.

He continued to send the energy of his White Gold Palm one after another. However, the spider woman was exceptionally agile. Her eight legs skittered dexterously along her web. All the White Gold Palm hit was the web. The silky web turned golden after getting struck, but it only lasted momentarily. It reverted to normal in mere seconds.

The spider woman never stopped laughing as she dodged the attacks, "Hahaha! What a pathetic little thing you are."

She shot web fluid from her rear. This fluid shot straight for a long distance. Yan Wang used a movement art that displaced his body a few meters away in an instant, dodging the web fluid.

They exchanged these ranged attacks for a while. Neither hit their targets. It was the spider woman who hit something first, except it was not Yan Wang.

"Brother, save me...!!" Yan Wansui shouted in panic. He was fighting another spirit beast when the spider woman’s web fluid suddenly snatched him. He was now pulled toward the spider woman.

Yan Wang immediately flew back. An unusually long longsword appeared in his hand. He placed his fingers at the base of the longsword’s blade. As his fingers slid past the blade, it turned golden. The entire blade was soon coated in a brilliant golden layer.

He slashed this golden longsword at the web fluid, and it was severed.

While he managed to save his brother, his position was exposed. The spider woman leaped forward. She was above him by the time he cut the web fluid that ensnared Yan Wansui.

"Die, pathetic little thing!" The spider woman exclaimed. Her eight legs stabbed at Yan Wang with incredible speed.

Yan Wang’s golden longsword flashed with a quicker speed. Golden lines crisscrossed around him as the longsword clashed with the spider woman’s legs. While the golden longsword had no trouble cutting the web fluid, the spider woman’s legs were harder than steel. His hand hurt with each clash.

While the close-range exchange was ongoing, the spider woman fired another web fluid. Yan Wang failed to dodge this point-blank shot. His lower body was covered in sticky fluid.

He didn’t let himself suffer a loss just like that. When the web fluid was shot, his left palm was also thrust forward. His White Gold Palm struck the spider woman’s abdomen. She reeled back from the strike. The lower part of her abdomen struck by the palm was now covered in a golden layer.

"Harrhh...! Not bad, pathetic little thing," the spider woman hissed. Her playful tone was now replaced by an irritated one. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Yan Wang grabbed his brother and flew back. At the same time, his golden longsword slashed down, cutting the web that bound his legs. His legs could move now, but the web was still sticking to his body.

The spider woman was not the only spirit beast there. While he brought his brother away from the spider woman, the giant crow originally fighting Yan Wansui now came at them from behind. It was not alone. Two other giant crows came with it.

Yan Wang swung his longsword. The blade created a radial golden line. The three crows clashed with the golden radial line and suffered deep cuts. Blood spurted from their bodies as they shrieked in pain.

Yan Wang slashed his golden longsword and unbound his brother. Like him, his brother could move his arms and legs again, but the web remained stuck in his body.

More giant crows approached. "I will deal with them, brother!" Yan Wansui exclaimed. He knew his brother must focus if he was to defeat the spider woman.

The spider woman had again shot another web fluid, but Yan Wang and Yan Wansui managed to dodge it. Yan Wansui engaged the giant crows as he stated, while Yan Wang flew ahead. His longsword created a crisscrossing net of golden lines. The spider woman chose not to clash directly. She retreated to her web.

Yan Wang pushed on. The golden net his longsword created charged at the spider woman. The spider woman again scurried away dexterously. The golden net crashed into her web. The spider woman’s web was extremely sturdy and resilient. Yan Clan’s members had tried cutting her web earlier but were unsuccessful. The golden net, however, cut the web into pieces. There was now a gaping hole in the spider woman’s web.

Yan Wang pursued the spider woman, all the while slashing his way. More and more of the web was cut. The hanging cocoons started falling one by one. This was Yan Clan members the spider woman had captured before Yan Wang engaged her. He was saving them while chasing the spider woman.

"Grahh...! You are annoying me, pathetic little thing," the spider woman growled.

"Screw you, vile bitch! I’m going to dice you to pieces for attacking my clan!" Yan Wang returned. His slashes became fiercer.

The spider woman continued to retreat. She didn’t show any intention of clashing directly with Yan Wang. She used her web fluid to create more web as Yan Wang ruined her original one.

As time passed, Yan Wang realized he was getting slower.

"What...?" He asked in consternation.

"Hehe. Have you finally noticed it?" The spider woman laughed. Her mocking tone returned.

Yan Wang heard the despairing scream of his brother. He looked back and saw Yan Wansui getting torn apart by a score of giant crows.

The spider woman laughed at the sight. She said, "My web is also on him. Considering his cultivation is lower than you, he suffered the effect much faster."

"Your web...," Yan Wang looked at his lower body still covered in web. It did not hinder his movements, but it continued to cling to him stubbornly.

"My web contained a poison that can cause paralysis. It might not cause someone with your cultivation to succumb completely, but it was enough to weaken you."

Finished speaking, the spider woman leaped at him. Her legs again came with rapid stabs. Yan Wang used his longsword to clash with the sharp legs. He was having trouble, though. He couldn’t move as fast as before. He retreated to reduce the pressure.

He continued to retreat until he was out of the area covered by the spider woman’s web.

"Hah...! Hah...!" Yan Wang panted heavily. It was too taxing fighting the spider woman at close range while his speed was handicapped. Thankfully, the spider woman stopped chasing him once he was out of her web coverage. She, however, shot her web fluid and created more web to cover a larger area.

During the reprieve, Yan Wang observed his surroundings. More and more spirit beasts were gathering while the number of his clan members continued to shrink. It was a matter of time before they were completely overrun.

Gritting his teeth, he called one of his clan members, "Tell the rest inside to use the emergency escape route!"

The clan member didn’t waste time questioning the order. He could see how dire the situation was. He rushed into the main hall to relay the order.

Inside the main hall, Yan Dose was standing guard near one of the entrances. He wanted to fight outside with his father, but his father forbade him. So, he ended up with the guards who dealt with any spirit beast that managed to come inside the hall.

When the clan member came in bearing Yan Wang’s order, he immediately ran to the basement. He was one of the few with the key to access the emergency escape route. The basement was full of refugees of the Yan Clan. They were mostly family members who had no cultivation or were still at the Mortal Stage.

This crowd asked Yan Dose about the situation outside as soon as he entered the basement. He ignored their queries. He commanded them to move aside so he could get to one side of the wall.

Arriving on the wall, he put his badge into an indentation and uttered several strange words.

Words of power flashed on the wall, and it started to slide open.

"Everyone, go in! This tunnel will get us outside the city," he shouted.

"Outside the city? Do you mean... We are losing our clan...?"

"Isn’t the clan master fighting the spirit beasts outside?"

"Has he lost?"

"What will happen to us?"

The crowd was riled by the turn of events. The murmur turned into a loud commotion. Yan Dose was flabbergasted by the situation and didn’t know what to do.

Loud taps on the wall attracted everyone’s attention. It came from an older clan member. He spoke after everyone turned to him, "The clan master is still fighting outside, but he can’t focus with you all trapped in here. We will go outside the city via the tunnel. Once the situation is back to normal, we will return. Now, move your asses and stop wasting time!"

"We guards will be at the head!" Another clan member said. "Following us will be elderly, women, and children first. The rest follows behind."

The older clan member came to Yan Dose’s side. He said, "Let’s go, young master. You will be with us at the head."
