Chapter 383: Chapter 383. A Coward Ambusher

A week before the spirit beast invasion, Amon sent almost half the members of the Demon Gang and Vicious Faction away from Qishurg City. None of the members knew about Amon’s plan, not even Xin Wuming and Gao Lan. He sent them on multiple difficult missions that required at least a month to complete. This was so his force didn’t suffer too many casualties.

The only ones who knew about this spirit beast invasion were Amon and the rebels. He conspired with the rebels through Sui Kui to bring about this disaster. He needed the rebels because he needed spirit beasts powerful enough to threaten the Spirit Stage cultivators in this city, like Lao Zen and the others. If the danger posed by the spirit beast invasion was not high enough, the Royal Academy might not mobilize all its forces.

The Allure Beacon might have a vast range. Still, the area with powerful spirit beasts was usually far from an established human settlement, especially a fully developed one like Qishurg City. If the invasion only consisted of superior-grade beasts, they wouldn’t pose much of a danger.

This was where the rebels came in and why Amon contacted them. After studying the Beast Nectar and acquiring the Primordial Blue Lotus, Amon could produce a replica using the lotus’ blue nectar. This replica had a weaker effect on luring spirit beasts. It had a small area of effect, but the scent it produced would still lure mythical-grade beasts.

Amon gave this replica nectar to the rebels to lure the powerful spirit beasts from deep inside the wilderness. Once these powerful beasts came out of their den and into the area of effect of the Allure Beacon, they would automatically be lured to Qishurg City.

The rebels lost a lot of members in this endeavor. Luring mythical-grade beasts was not exactly a safe undertaking. But if they could destroy a kingdom’s major city with this plan, it would be a big win for them. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Amon had already completed his main objective with this plan. He didn’t plan to stay around. He had learned all he could at the Royal Academy. It was time for him to bid farewell. But before that, he still had a side objective he wished to accomplish using this spirit beast invasion. This was where he was heading next.

Stealthily, he arrived at a large residential complex. It was not as large and grand as the Royal Academy, but it was probably the second grandest in this city. The complex was the estate of the Yan Clan. The estate was currently besieged by many spirit beasts. The clan members were doing all they could to fight these spirit beasts.

Compared to the other parts of the city, this place was even more crowded with spirit beasts. The reason was that Amon’s allure beacon was placed inside this estate.

Amon had scouted the Yan Estate and sneaked into it several times since he started preparing for this invasion. The night before today, Amon sneaked in again and activated the allure beacon. He then hid it somewhere inconspicuous. The Yan Clan members had no idea that to end this disaster, it was more effective to spend their time searching for the Allure Beacon than fighting the spirit beasts.

"There is no end to this...!" A member of the Yan Clan shouted. He was fighting a spirit beast that looked like a cross between a crab and a scorpion.

"Stop complaining! Keep fighting! This is our home. No matter what, we must protect it!" Yan Ming exclaimed. The estate was big. The invasion was sudden. Multiple teams were dispatched to help their more vulnerable members retreat to the main hall to take shelter. Yan Ming was leading one of the teams.

He was an Intermediate Mystic Stage cultivator. He could defeat higher superior beasts if they were not too many. He could even hold his ground against a lower mythical beast. Hence, the rest of the team looked up to him in this battle.

He slashed his sword, which produced a strong and sharp wave of water. This wave washed over three scorpion crabs and cut them into pieces. His team members yelled a rallying cry after seeing the display. Everyone became motivated.

Yan Ming felt good hearing that. He became more spirited. His swords kept producing wave after wave, slicing any spirit beast that dared to come near. He only stopped when his wave hit a spirit beast that withstood it. This spirit beast was a giant ox with a human face and a pair of enormous curling horns.

The giant ox was charging when it blasted through Yan Ming’s wave slash. Yan Ming was forced to take a defensive stance. He was still thrown back a long distance when the giant ox rammed into him.

"Damn! A lower mystical beast!" He cursed. Under normal circumstances, he could hold his own against this spirit beast and probably fought it to a standstill, but there were many other spirit beasts in the surroundings.

He commanded his team, "I will hold this one. Everyone, take down the surrounding beasts as quickly as possible before aiding me."

The others didn’t find that order realistic, but they had no choice but to say, "Yes, sir!"

Yan Ming engaged the giant ox while his team members did their best to cull the spirit beasts in the surroundings. Yet, each spirit beast they took down was soon replaced by a new one. Instead, it was their members who decreased as time passed.

The human face of the giant ox grinned mockingly at Yan Ming. It even started uttering a strange and disturbing laugh after some time. Considering the situation, Yan Min had no choice but to issue a retreat. They would unite with the force protecting the main hall and make their stand there.

As he retreated, he perceived the condition of his fallen team members.

"What...?" He noticed some of them had knives stuck in their bodies.

Spirit beasts didn’t use weapons. Those knives were the act of another human. How could this be? At a time like this, when everyone’s life was threatened by the spirit beasts, who in their sane mind would choose to fight among themselves?

His martial sense informed him of unseen danger. He twirled his sword, creating a round water shield. Many thin needles became visible after getting stuck in this water shield.

"Who?!" Yan Ming yelled angrily.

The needles pulled away after failing to hit their targets. He was about to chase the needles to find out the coward attacker, but the giant ox reminded him that it was his opponent. The giant ox rammed into him using its deformed horns, all the while uttering disturbing laughs.

Now that he knew someone was ambushing them in secret, his martial sense picked up on the hidden attacks. Small knives and needles continued to hassle his team members. This happened a lot of the time during a critical moment, which opened them up to the spirit beasts and caused them to suffer wounds. He knew the general direction of where these ambushes came from, but he didn’t have the opportunity to go over and confront this despicable ambusher. The giant ox didn’t let him.

As time passed, more and more of his members fell until he was the last man standing. He found himself surrounded by spirit beasts. His body was full of wounds. The giant ox continued to taunt him with its depressing laughs.

The knife and needled ambushes had stopped. Probably, the attacker thought that it was not needed anymore.

In his desperation, he cried out a frustrating yell, "Damn you, you coward! Come out here and face me like a man! I will–"

He couldn’t complete his sentence because the giant ox rammed at him again. This time, his sword broke upon contact. The giant ox’s ramming crashed half his body. The remaining spirit beasts then swarmed at him.

Amon was already far away by then. He didn’t hear Yan Ming’s last cry of frustration.

As Amon stealthily moved around the estate, picking off Yan Clan members one by one, a fierce battle went on around Yan Clan’s main hall.

The most intimidating presence was a gigantic spider. Protruding out from this spider’s back was the upper half of a woman’s naked body. The woman’s body possessed a beautiful face with long white hair. Hanging from her chest was a pair of unusually large breasts.

The spider woman giggled mockingly as she perched on a giant cobweb of her making. Grabbed by her spider legs was a Yan Clan member who was paralyzed. His face was filled with terror, but he couldn’t do anything. He couldn’t even scream. He remained still as he was webbed into a cocoon.

Hanging from the cobweb were several similar webbed cocoons.

"Hahaha! After this is over, I’m going to have a great feast!" the spider woman laughed. She was a mid-mythical beast.

"Damn you, demon beast! Let go of my clan members!" Yan Wang exclaimed. His two hands were flaring a blinding golden. He shoved his two palms forward. The golden light charged toward the spider woman.

"Hahaha!" The spider woman threw the half-webbed victim on her feet at the incoming light. The poor clan member turned into a golden statue after getting hit by the golden light. He fell and crashed heavily into the ground.
