Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 430: Hailstorm
The rains persisted for a week without taking a break, then on the eighth day, as if by a miracle, the sky cleared and the sun shone.
However, it wasn’t too hot and was just warm enough to allow people to experience comfortable weather.
Many people assumed that the rain had stopped and were overjoyed.
Because of the continuous rain, the flood water had already covered buildings up to the second floor in just one week.
Many survivors were scared that if it continued like that, it would lead to more catastrophes.
So, when they saw the sun, many ran to take out their rubber boats and speed boats to go out and look for supplies.
However, Leng Pan knew better than this.
She was aware that the nature of weather in the apocalypse could never be judged in a normal way.
In fact, it felt as if the weather was intelligent and knew how to tease people.
"I bet all the food I have that this rain would come back unexpectedly when everyone was off guard." She said while their family was eating lunch.
Should we warn other survivors to be careful when they go out?" Lu Tao asked.
He still had that device that could spread a message remotely to others.
"No need. People might have listened to us the last few times because they still had hope and some means of survival.
However, now that the apocalypse has taken a toll on their health and resources, no one would care even if you told them they were jumping into the lion’s den.
Because of the shortage in supplies, human survival has already kicked in and no matter what we say, no one would give up a chance at getting a little food for anything." Leng Pan replied to her brother-in-law.
"But even if they risk their lives to go and search for supplies now, there is probably nothing now." Auntie Li said sadly.
"That’s why we have to find a way to eliminate the aliens fast so that we can focus on eliminating zombies. If we keep being juggled between the two, we won’t survive either even with all our resources. Unless, we choose to hide." Leng Pan said and everyone there understood what she meant by hiding.
"No, I don’t want that kind of life. If we choose to hide, it would only be our family. Then what kind of life is that?" Uncle Li immediately rejected the idea.
As a former soldier, he still felt a sense of responsibility to his country and its citizens.
So, he would never choose to save his own skin and let other survivors perish.
"Then, what do we do?" Lu Tao asked with his hand placed on his chin and his elbow on the table.
"Even if we want to fight, we have to wait until this rain is gone. Otherwise, we can’t do anything." Leng Pan said looking at her family that was so worried about others and felt a warm sensation in her chest.
Looking at how they were exhausting their brain to think of a way to help total strangers, she felt happy that she had taken the step to marry Lu Zhen before it was too late.
She had a family that would go through fire for her.
As expected, the rain that had stopped resumed the next day and this time, it felt as if it was falling with vengeance.
It was accompanied by hail that made it impossible for anyone to step outside.
The hailstorm wasn’t the normal one where some small ice balls fell from the sky.
This time, the hail included ice blocks big enough to knock a grown man unconscious.
Some people couldn’t take it anymore after starving for a couple of days and not seeing any hope in sight, they chose to jump into the flood water and end everything once and for all.
After five days, the hailstorm stopped. However, the damage it had done wasn’t limited to smashing windows and preventing people from going out to look for supplies.
Some of the hail stones were so big that some roofs of houses collapsed from the impact.
Moreover, even though the hailstorm stopped, the rain continued to fall.
At this time, most of the high-rise buildings had water flooding to their eighth or tenth floors.
Leng Pan stood at the window looking outside and sighed every couple of minutes.
"Baby, why do you keep sighing?" Lu Zhen came over with a small blanket and wrapped it around Leng Pan who was only wearing a thin coat.
"How many survivors do you think will pass this wave of nature’s selection?" Leng Pan asked sadly.
"It doesn’t matter. As long as there are survivors, we will fight to keep them alive for as long as possible." Lu Zhen comforted his wife.
He knew her too well. Although she seemed careless, she had a warm heart.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have sacrificed herself during the first apocalypse just to buy a tiny chance for humanity to survive.
"Should we give some supplies to those in need?" Leng Pan asked again.
Truthfully, Lu Tao had been listening to gossip from different directions and told the rest of the family about what was happening in other places.
That was also how they knew that people were getting desperate and instead of suffering from starvation, they chose to jump into the water and commit suicide.
"Don’t be impulsive just because of sympathy. You might feel sorry for someone, especially now that people are dying in every direction but end up hurting yourself and those around you." Uncle Li advised Leng Pan and she turned to him.
"If you expose the fact that you have supplies, in this world currently where everyone is driven by the urge to survive, they might turn around and attack you. It is better to protect yourself first." Lu Zhen finally spoke and advised his wife.
"So, what can we do to help?" Leng Pan asked again.
