Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 404: First Major Battle
The collision of power caused the stadium to tremble from its very foundation.
Water and fire dragons tore through the horde like twin calamities descending from the heavens. Every time Leng Pan’s dragon opened its jaws, dozens of zombies vanished into its translucent body. Every time Lu Zhen’s crimson dragon roared, flames scorched the air and reduced both zombies and disguised aliens to drifting ash.
This was the first major battle both Leng Pan and Lu Zhen were fighting in the second apocalypse. It gave them the same exhilarating feeling they got when they killed monsters and zombies in the first apocalypse in their previous lives.
As bodies fell of both zombies and aliens, the pressure grew heavier. Most of the humans lacked combat experience and only survived by receiving protection from Leng Pan and Lu Zhen.
Leng Pan sliced through the neck of a charging zombie, her water-forged blade dissolving its skull before her foot kicked the corpse aside. Her gaze swept across the battlefield in a single breath.
She had seen similar scenes before and something felt wrong. Even as their group slaughtered so many aliens who were powerless to fight back, the others didn’t retreat. Instead, they heal their ground, as if waiting.
But waiting for what? She didn’t know.
"Ah Zhen." She called to her husband in the chaos as she slashed the head of another zombie off its body.
Lu Zhen’s flaming blade split an alien cleanly in half before he flashed to her side.
"What’s wrong, Baby?" Lu Zhen asked as a fire wall rose from their spot and incinerated both zombies and aliens in its path.
"Something is going on and I can’t tell what." Leng Pan replied. Raising her voice higher so that her husband could hear her above the noise of weapons colliding and zombies growling.
"Oh, so you noticed that as well? I thought it was my imagination. But it seems something is really going on." Lu Zhen muttered as he recalled the fire wall, turning the flame into a blade again.
The zombies were still attacking mindlessly, but the aliens had begun to shift positions subtly, herding the battlefield toward the center of the stadium. As if they were creating space or preparing a stage for whatever they were planning.
"Everyone, be careful, there is...."
Before Leng Pan could voice her suspicion, the ground beneath the stadium cracked open with a thunderous boom.
The zombie horde nearest the center was thrown into the air like broken dolls.
The ground shook even more fiercely and Leng Pan had to use her vines to wrap around her teammates to prevent them from getting torn to pieces by the shock.
However, she realized that her team had three members less. She hadn’t even noticed when they died, but now wasn’t the time to be sad and mourn. Danger was approaching fast.
A pillar of black energy shot skyward. The sky seemed dimmer than before. Even the two dragons paused mid-bite.
From the fractured earth in the middle of the stadium, something rose.
It was tall, nearly three meters; its body armored in dark metallic plates that seemed grown rather than forged. Veins of violet light pulsed beneath its skin. Four elongated arms ended in clawed hands. A crown-like structure curved backward from its skull, framing a face that was disturbingly calm.
Leng Pan looked at this being and was reminded of the martians she had seen in movies before.
However, this thing didn’t look monstrous, nor was it feral. It looked intelligent.
The surrounding aliens immediately dropped to one knee.
Even the zombies paused in their attacks.
"A commander-level alien." Lu Zhen muttered under his breath.
They had seen such monsters before. During the ancient apocalypse, they had fought such aliens. They were commanders of the alien army and what set them apart wasn’t strength alone, but intelligence as well.
The creature’s eyes swept across the battlefield and locked onto Leng Pan. Then, it smiled as if it had seen something it liked.
"You are...interesting." It spoke in clear human language.
Its voice was layered, as if several beings spoke in unison. "To think a primitive world could birth such anomalies."
"Soon, you won’t find me so interesting." Leng Pan didn’t take this Commander seriously. Yes, he could cause some trouble, but not enough to scare her.
Lu Hao appeared beside Leng Pan in a flash of lightning, his eyes no longer innocent. They were cold and filled with hostility.
Electricity crackled along his fingertips as he observed the alien standing taller than everyone else. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"He is the one." Lu Hao spoke steadily. "He is the one controlling them." He added.
The alien turned to Lu Hao and something akin to surprise flashed in its eyes.
It tilted its head and asked, "Ah, a hybrid?"
"You have been corrupted." The alien said as it faced Lu Hao.
Lu Hao vanished.
A bolt of blinding white lightning split the battlefield and struck the alien commander directly in the chest.
The impact shattered the concrete beneath its feet and sent shockwaves rippling outward.
Several weaker zombies disintegrated into nothing instantly.
Leng Pan realized just how strong this new brother-in-law was.
With him as an addition to their team, their battle strength had increased significantly.
But when the smoke cleared, the commander was still standing in the same spot.
Cracks spread across its armor, violet energy leaking out like blood, yet it did not fall. Instead, it lifted one of its four arms.
Gravity seemed to twist.
Lu Hao, who had reappeared mid-air for a second strike, was suddenly crushed downward by invisible force, slamming into the ground hard enough to crater it.
"Second brother!" Lu Tao shouted, his eyes glowing faintly as he activated his super vision.
Lu Zhen’s body moved faster than his brain.
Crimson flames surged skyward, forming a spiraling inferno that drilled toward the commander’s torso.
At the same time, Leng Pan raised both hands. The air turned damp, then freezing, before it turned corrosive.
