Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Irreparable Damage

"Eh, that gives me an idea. If the place below the ground is cool, is it possible for us to seal some of the tunnels they have dug and use them ourselves? 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

It’s the first day of the extreme heat and I already feel like I am going to melt." Uncle Li suggested.

However, Leng Pan vetoed that suggestion immediately.

"There are glowing bioluminescent veins in the tunnels which obviously aren’t organically formed.

So, those tunnels, unless we are able to remove everything related to whatever created those centipedes, are untouchable." She warned.

"Okay, we will just have to rely on ourselves for cooling." Uncle Li grumbled.

Leng Pan turned to Lu Tao and asked, "Can you send a message the same way you usually do when a major event is about to happen?" She was talking about the way he informed people about the extreme cold and extreme heat.

"Yes." Lu Tao replied quickly.

"Then inform everyone that from this moment on, the underground is a hostile zone.

Tell them that there are dangerous things crawling underground and authorized exploration or solo missions could be fatal."

Leng Pan didn’t know if most citizens would believe this, but she hoped at least some who had plans to go underground would rethink their decisions or prepare.

"Okay, I will go and send the message out now." Lu Tao said as he skipped back to his bedroom.

Leng Pan sent a message to the people who acted like leaders in their team to come back to their apartment once more.

When everyone was there, she explained the situation to them and assigned tasks.

She looked at Silk. "Accelerate contact with your people. Tell them the situation has changed."

They couldn’t hope to monitor and spy on Commander Qui anymore.

It was better for the recruited army to stay together.

Silk straightened. "I’ll move immediately."

"Momo, have you done inventory on our supplies, especially those that could help us during the heat spike?"

Leng Pan turned to Momo. She hadn’t told the others about the warehouse in the space bangle.

They always thought that she had a slightly special and bigger space superpower.

So, she had to be consistent.

Momo nodded, "We do have some fuel and generators. Adding the ice we harvested, it could last us at least two weeks. But we have to look for more supplies.

Even if I ration them, we don’t know how long the heat will last." She said.

"Ouyang Jin, can you guide the others in modifying weapons? I found some of the weapons from the past, but there aren’t many. So we need all the ammunition we can get."

Leng Pan was talking about the special weapons in the space bangle.

Although there was a room filled with such advanced weapons, they were not enough to fight a war.

It was fine if it was just a battle, but a war was too long to fight with those few weapons.

Leng Pan then turned to Juan Ke.

"Brother Juan, can you please guide and encourage Janna to explore her ability a bit more?

She is our walking map, if she could expand her range, we would be more secure."

"I will, don’t worry. She is eager to help, just doesn’t know where to begin." Juan Ke was more than willing to help Janna.

He saw her as a little sister and was happy to help her grow.

By noon, the heat had climbed to 55° and it was killing people.

No one dared to cross the threshold of their doors, or windows.

Windows were closed and dark curtains or bedsheets added to shield the sun rays from penetrating inside and burning those inside the house.

Those without any superpowers were the most vulnerable. They faced dehydration within hours of the onset of the extreme heat and died of thirst.

Some only wanted to survive and didn’t care that the water outside was dirty. They scooped it, boiled it and drank.

Unfortunately, the kind of bacteria and viruses in that water couldn’t be killed by heat.

So, boiling was the same as not boiling.

Those who drank the water died or mutated. Turning into zombies while still alive.

Screams could be heard that night as more people mutated and others collapsed from dehydration and died.

Others collapsed from heat stroke and became bedridden.

By the first night when the heat went down to 30°, a lot of people had suffered irreparable damage.

The night was more comfortable compared to the day. With the air conditioner on, people could sleep peacefully.

The next morning, heat was what woke people from their beds.

It was only five in the morning, but the sun was already peeking through the horizon and the temperature was already rapidly rising.

Leng Pan walked to the window and pulled the curtain and was shocked to find that the water outside had almost dried completely.

Only wet mud remained, which would obviously dry before mid-day.

As expected, by ten in the morning, the ground was already cracking from how dry the mud on the ground was.

The sun was so hot that no one dared to even peek through the slits of their curtains.

Several abandoned vehicles that had been buried under water had already burst their tires, rubber melting into the roads.

In the distance, black smoke rose where someone else had made the mistake of lighting a fire too carelessly.

Those who were too curious and pulled the curtain to look ended up with burnt body parts that looked as if they had been set on fire.

Within hours, those wounds would blister and fester. Due to inflammation and lack of medication, these people would die before the sun set.

The first few days of the extreme heat, people had to learn to hold back their curiosity.

After a few days, survivors got used to the extremely hot environment and began venturing out at night to look for supplies.

Leng Pan and her team were the same.
