Chapter 358: Chapter 358: Tasks Distribution

The apocalypse was never polite enough to present disasters one at a time.

"Alright." Leng Pan said, opening her eyes.

"Here’s the plan." She continued.

Everyone leaned forward. As if doing so would make their hearing better.

"Step one: we have to stabilize the buildings in this community if we are going to build our base here.

Once the water recedes completely, we will clear and clean the lower floors of every intact building within the walls of this community.

If need be, repairs will be carried out.

Don’t forget, we have that stone. I am pretty sure that after some time, even a bazooka won’t be able to make a dent in this building.

The same will probably be the case with the other nearby buildings.

We can move the stone to other buildings to toughen them too.

If there is a battle here in the future, we will not be afraid if the buildings are attacked." Leng Pan continued to give out instructions.

Everyone nodded their heads as they listened with rapt attention.

"Zaizai and Lu Tao, you guys will help to map out underground retreats just in case we ever need them." She continued.

Leng Pan had learned a lesson with the last apocalypse.

If there had been underground retreat paths when the army of zombies, traitors, and aliens attacked the high-tech city, she wouldn’t have needed to sacrifice herself.

All she would have had to do was stall for time for the city to move to another space before retreating safely.

Both boys nodded their heads in agreement.

"The second step is recruitment. We won’t be recruiting just anyone.

Moreover, we will not advertise. We will observe individuals, soldiers, families, small groups, and teams.

Those who’ve proven themselves can be recruited, but anyone showing signs of instability or overdependence will be rejected." Leng Pan went on to explain the next step of their plan.

"We don’t want burdens joining us. Such people are not worth surviving." She continued.

Silk’s eyes lit up. "I can contact our old comrades discreetly."

Silk was still thinking of the soldiers suffering in the military base, bound by duty and an oath they weren’t aware had been violated by greed.

He wanted them to have a better life and he saw no other way other than following Leng Pan and Lu Zhen.

"Sure." Leng Pan agreed immediately.

"But you must make it clear that once they join us, their loyalty must be with us. There cannot be hidden loyalties."

Silk’s expression became solemn. "Understood."

"The third step is training." Leng Pan said, her expression more dignified.

Several people within the room straightened their backs.

"Even though we had some tough training during the extreme cold, it was not enough. Especially when we are going to be fighting in extreme heat.

We have to form different units depending on the superpowers the soldiers recruited possess.

Those who have no abilities won’t be left behind. They will have a separate training program that includes endurance, coordination, and discipline."

Leng Pan wanted everyone in their base to be able to protect themselves if need be.

Lu Zhen finally spoke after his wife was done.

"I will handle combat training. Whether it’s close combat, firearms, or team formations, I will handle them all."

"And I’ll oversee logistics and medical support," Auntie Li added immediately.

With her wood superpower, she had the ability to improve the vitality of those who are injured. So, it was indeed a good choice to let her take charge of medical support.

"I think I should take on supplies and food distribution. With my cloaking ability, I believe I can move with supplies undetected when necessary." Momo volunteered.

Leng Pan nodded as she listened to them one by one.

She was glad that she didn’t have to push them to take on the tasks but most of them volunteered for the tasks they were more suited for.

"You need to understand that this won’t be easy," she said.

"We’ll lose people. We’ll make enemies. And once we start expanding, we’ll attract attention. Unwanted attention from humans and non-humans alike."

She paused, then said softly, "But if we don’t do this, we’ll eventually die, along with the rest of humanity."

No one argued. They knew all too well that everything she said was true.

If they don’t stand up to fight, they will be eliminated.

Outside, the sunlight burned brighter, reflecting off the melting ice like countless sharp blades.

Leng Pan walked over to the window once more and pulled the curtain back a little.

Seeing how the water that had been covering the seventh floor a couple of hours ago already on the sixth floor made her realize that time was moving faster than anticipated.

Or rather, the disasters were coming faster.

Lu Zhen stood up and walked over to her, standing behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.

He never cared about what other people thought about their intimacy.

Even though the room was filled with shining light bulbs, he didn’t care.

"Thinking about those children again?" He asked softly beside Leng Pan’s ear, causing her to shiver visibly.

Leng Pan steadied her breathing that was starting to turn chaotic before replying.

"Yes, but not in regret this time." She answered softly as well.

"I can’t save everyone. But if I build something strong enough, maybe fewer children will have to die like that."

This was the right mentality for the apocalypse. It was good to understand and accept that they couldn’t save everyone, but they could protect as many as possible if they built a stronghold.

"Mmm,.." Lu Zhen hummed in response.

"Then I’ll make sure no one dares to tear it down." It was more like a vow than a promise.

But it was a vow that Lu Zhen intended to fulfill.

If he had to protect the base with his life, then he would do it so that his wife never has to feel so much sadness again.
