Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Thinking of the Past

Inside the barrier, Lu Tao looked around him and could barely see anything outside of it.

He had to use his supervision to see where they were going. But what surprised him was that both his brother and sister-in-law didn’t seem to have a problem with navigation because of the barrier.

He didn’t ask anything, however, because they were in the middle of something dangerous, or at least, that was what he thought.

They were about to enter the mall, so, of course, he thought that they were going to experience a more brutal battle than the one they had just fought.

Lu Zhen lifted the shutter doors and inside was a glass door that already had cracks because many zombies had been hitting it in an attempt to break it and go out to hunt when they smelled the three of them.

Without wasting any time, Lu Zhen made a ball of flames and hurled it at the glass door, which melted like hot butter.

In fact, he had found that since the previous night when he touched the meteorite, the quality of his flames had also improved. His strength had unquestionably increased and his flames were hotter.

Before, he could melt metal within a minute, but now, he only needed a few seconds for the metal to melt. When it came to zombies, they would melt instantly when they came into contact with his flames. freewёbnoνel.com

What is more, he didn’t need to set the whole body on fire, just a small ball landing on a zombie would spread in the blink of an eye and wherever it touched would turn to dust and disappear.

The reason he had not attacked the zombies directly with his flames was to both save energy and to avoid melting the crystal cores inside the brains of the zombies.

However, he planned on experimenting later and discovering if the crystal cores could be preserved even in such high heat. He wasn’t sure, but he had a feeling that this apocalypse was different from the one Leng Pan had described.

He wasn’t sure what had changed it, whether it was his beloved’s rebirth or something else, but things were different.

Therefore, while his flames could melt metal just like what Leng Pan had described in the narration of their previous lives, he thought that it was different in this life.

With the meteorite they found, many things can be changed. Thinking of that meteorite, he remembered the message he had gotten when he placed his hand on it the previous night.

He had not told Leng Pan about it because he was afraid of scaring her, especially since she was already having nightmares.

But he knew that the apocalypse was not as simple as it seemed. The message last night had been to urge him to protect Leng Pan at all costs and not let her make the same choice again.

Of course, he didn’t need some voice inside a rock to tell him to protect his wife. He would do it even at the risk of his life. But he couldn’t understand why that voice emphasized not letting her make the same choice again.

What choice had she made before that kept the voice insisting that he should prevent her from making it again? Also, when did she make that choice?

After he heard about Leng Pan’s nightmare, he started to think that it must be the memories the AI voice in the mansion had spoken of. She was starting to remember things from a life both knew nothing about.

Now that he thought about it, the two of them must have had a kind of relationship in that era to be given such related missions.

He wondered what relationship they had in ancient times. He had not questioned the authenticity of this matter or their existence in another lifetime.

He was sure that since there was tangible evidence like the jade bracelet and the space inside it, what the AI voice in the mansion mentioned about Leng Pan being a commander should be true.

In that case, it must also be true that they knew each other from ancient times and had finally been reunited in this life and gotten together.

Lu Zhen had been thinking that the apocalypse wasn’t as simple as it appeared to be.

Before the television channels went out completely, they had reported that the cause of the meteorites falling was a shift in space caused by some activities related to human research of technology.

Moreover, experts also said that the tectonic plates under several large seas and oceans around the world had moved, which caused the worldwide disaster.

Medical experts had also determined that the zombie virus had been released through cracks at the bottom of the seas and oceans when the shift happened.

Apparently, these were ancient bacteria and viruses sealed at the bottom of the Earth when everything in the world was natural and industrial pollution had not happened yet.

However, Lu Zhen had a different suspicion. He thought that the zombie virus came with the meteorites. Most likely, it was the same as the purple sparks that covered the special meteorite they had in space.

Nonetheless, explaining this to those experts would have been in vain. Not only that, but it might get one into trouble.

He and Leng needed to go into the space more often and maybe, they would gain more insight into what was happening.

Lu Zhen stopped thinking about the past as they walked into the mall and hundreds of zombies launched themselves on them with extended claws and unpleasant grunts.

Luckily, the mist and fire barrier was extremely effective. Every zombie that came into contact with it died and melted on the spot.

In this way, these hundreds of zombies didn’t take long before dwindling to about a hundred.

"Baby, let’s try yesterday’s attack and see how much stronger it has become." Lu Zhen suggested this to his wife.

The attack he was talking about was the one where Leng Pan used her water ability to create a pressurized mist tunnel where Lu Zhen could launch fireballs through, thus turning them into lethal explosive weapons.

Leng Pan understood this and immediately created the tunnel facing the side with more zombies. Lu Zhen followed suit and compressed a fireball. This time the flames compressed together to form the fireball were hotter and denser.

Therefore, it was expected that the power of the explosion would also be greater.

He launched the compressed fireball through that tunnel and when it emerged on the other side, it was travelling at almost two hundred miles an hour.

The speed alone was deadly, therefore, when the fireball hit the zombie at the forefront, there wasn’t even time to blink before it was turned into many tiny stars of flames that spread through the crowd of zombies.

Wherever a star of flames touched, it became ash. Even the ones that fell to the flow burned the tiles and marbles used to dust.

This was how terrifying the duo techniques the husband and wife had created were.

In less than a minute, not a single zombie was left standing. Even some zombies that seemed to have started to evolve weren’t spared and evaporated into thin air.

Lu Tao, who was witnessing this for the first time, felt as if he was filming a superhero movie. How could his brother and sister-in-law be so powerful in only a few days?

He had a feeling that things weren’t as simple as they looked. There must be some explanation for such a heaven-defying power to exist.

After all the zombies were taken care of, the three collected the crystal cores on the floor before proceeding to the shops on the ground floor.

Most of the shops on the ground floor were the ones that are prone to holding promotional events, such as some clothing brands and skin care stores.

Leng Pan walked into one of the high-end skin care brand stores that sold most of the products she used before.

Although she had bought a lot of skin care products, it was never enough. Skin care products for women were similar to clothes.

They couldn’t care too much about fashion in the apocalypse as what worked best for occasions such as fighting was what they had to wear. However, they couldn’t ignore taking care of their skin.

No matter the era and situation, a woman’s face was always important.

"Sister-in-law, aren’t we going to look for food? The supermarket should be on the second floor." Lu Tao called out when he saw his sister-in-law going into the skin care store.

"Don’t worry about your sister-in-law, she knows what she’s doing. Let’s go check out the second floor and clear any potential dangers in advance." Lu Zhen said to his brother and began walking towards the stairs to the second floor.

He, of course, knew what his wife was up to. She must want to collect more skin care products and wants to put them into the space.

If this third wheel of a brother followed her, then his wife wouldn’t be able to do what she wants.
