Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Change of Mindset

"Should we still go through the front door?" Lu Tao asked as he thought about the large number of zombies waiting inside.

As soon as they opened the door, things would probably go south faster than a rocket.

"If you encounter such a situation alone in the future, find another way to enter a building if you must. Don’t take unnecessary risks.

Your brother and I can get inside even with the zombies crowding the door, but not everyone can do it." Leng Pan advised her brother-in-law while continuing to attack and kill the zombies still surrounding them outside.

"What do you mean, sister-in-law?" Lu Tao asked as he also turned to the side to shoot at the nearby zombies.

His aim was becoming better with each shot and his disgust for the zombies had lessened.

"You’ll see." Leng Pan said as she slashed at another zombie.

She couldn’t believe how easily they now engaged in close combat battles with zombies. Before, she would feel her arms getting sore after only ten minutes of swinging her sword.

But now, she could go for two hours without slowing down. Practice indeed makes perfect.

"Alright, Baby. Let’s get these crystal cores and go shopping." Lu Zhen, who had been busy killing zombies, finally spoke.

"Okay." Leng Pan agreed immediately and mist started to form in the air. She wasn’t using the water condensed in her body but the humidity in the atmosphere.

Seeing the mist surrounding the zombies, Lu Zhen released his fire ability and mixed it in the mist.

The zombies within the covered area literally melted and evaporated. The two had realized that combining their superpowers in this way saved spiritual energy.

If only one person attacked, then the amount of energy used would be more than twice that of when they combined their attack power.

So, as long as they were near each other, they combined their attack.

After so many zombies had died, the number of crystal cores was also significant.

Before, they would get about twenty crystal cores for every hundred or more zombies they killed. But as the apocalypse progressed, somehow the zombies kept mutating and evolving and getting stronger.

As they grew stronger, they formed more and more crystal cores that could help them to store power. Now, killing more than three hundred zombies in the same way they had just killed could guarantee up to a hundred crystal cores.

Going by the rate the zombies were evolving, it was almost certain that within a few months, every single zombie would have a crystal core.

While this was an advantage for superpower users as they could enhance their power by absorbing crystal cores, it also meant that the zombies would be growing stronger.

Leng Pan did want to imagine what it would be like for the fragile humans who didn’t have any offensive superpowers.

However, she still remembered that in the book, humans would later develop some advanced weapons that could inflict serious damage on zombies.

The only issue now was that the plot had completely changed. What’s more, she suspected that there was no book world created from a fragment of an author’s imagination.

This was a parallel world where she somehow got transmigrated into. But some things remained unclear and confusing.

Like how that jade bangle recognized her as its owner. Like how the AI voice in the mansion kept calling her Commander Leng.

Like how she was starting to remember memories disguised as dreams from a different life that she doesn’t remember living.

It was all confusing, but she was sure that she would eventually figure it out.

After the zombies near the trio were killed, they went ahead to collect the exposed crystal cores. For those still in the brains of the zombies who had been shot or simply chopped, they used swords to pry them out.

This was a challenging affair for Lu Tao. Accepting being near these disgusting creatures was already trying hard enough, but now he had to hold back his disgust and pry the brains of the zombies open to look for crystal cores.

As rotten flesh fell and bloody brain matter scattered, Lu Tao, for the first time since the apocalypse began, wished things could go back to normal.

He didn’t mind attending boring classes. He could also handle those snobbish friends who only crowded around him for his family background and money.

As long as he didn’t have to face the scene in front of him every day, he would do anything.

Unfortunately, his prayers were bound to go unanswered. The apocalypse had begun, and it wouldn’t go away.

He was so engrossed in his misery and wishful thinking that he hadn’t thought about how his brother and sister-in-law could launch such a large-scale attack.

It was only when they finished collecting the crystal cores and Leng Pan had used her water ability to clean them and put them in the large backpacks they were carrying that he finally realized what was happening.

However, he already realized that he had gotten distracted while collecting crystal cores and didn’t dare to think about other things that might add to his distraction.

He could ask the questions once they were back home. Right now, he just needed to follow his brother and sister-in-law’s lead.

Taking a deep breath, Lu Tao’s determination to survive was awakened. He would not surrender to circumstances.

He would fight not only to survive, but also to ensure that his family had as normal a life as they could.

Feeling the change in the demeanor and even the posture of the young man beside them, Lu Zhen and Leng Pan looked at each other. novelbuddy-cσ๓

They immediately understood what the other meant. Indeed, it had been the right decision to bring Lu Tao out today. With the change in his mentality, his survival chances would increase.

Now, they did not have to worry about him too much.

"Little brother, prepare to enter the mall. Don’t worry, no zombie will come near you." Leng Pan gave Lu Tao a heads-up before she covered the three of them with her body-produced mist while Lu Zhen surrounded the inside of the mist barrier with crimson-purple flames.
