Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 116: Foreshadowing
Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Foreshadowing
Lu Tao’s explanation impressed the two lovers even more.
How had he even thought of making something so useful? Especially since the internet was down and most of the satellites were destroyed.
"Okay, let’s go for dinner first. Keep following up on those people who were talking. Don’t miss any information about them." Lu Zhen said to Lu Tao as he got up with Leng Pan’s hand in his.
"Okay, I got it." Lu Tao answered.
He didn’t know whether it was an illusion but he felt that his brother was more intimidating today.
Anyway, it wasn’t a big deal and he was glad that he could help.
After dinner, the family sat in the living room for their daily family time session.
They had developed a habit where no matter how the day went, the family would sit together for dinner and later share what had happened with the others.
Today was no different.
"Today, Ah Zhen’s superpower advanced." Leng Pan shared with a happy smile.
Everyone in the living room was happy and congratulated him.
"Congratulations on advancing. You should be stronger now and be able to protect your wife better." Aunt Li teased as she offered her congratulations.
The rest also followed suit while laughing. Leng Pan couldn’t help but blush when she heard that.
Lu Zhen on the other hand, didn’t seem vexed. He accepted the congratulations very generously.
"Thank you. I can indeed protect her better."
Everyone laughed again hearing that. It was a rare moment in the current world to have a family sitting together and sharing a laugh like this as if everything was okay.
As the laughter died down, Leng Pan finally decided to ask the question that had been bothering her for days.
"Mom, what kind of superpower did you awaken?"
When they heard the question, everyone’s expression turned serious. They had waited for a few days for Li Yunjia to tell them, but since she wasn’t saying, it was good that someone finally asked.
Lu Tao, who had seen his mother after she had used her superpower before, was even more concerned.
Li Yunjia looked at everyone who was looking at her with both curiosity and trepidation and realized that in not wanting to worry her family, she had ended up worrying them even more.
"I don’t understand the superpower, and didn’t want to worry you all so I kept quiet as I explored it. Unfortunately, I still don’t get what it is." She said with a sigh.
"Can you explain what it does?" Lu Zhen was also concerned about his mother and asked.
"When I summon the superpower, I seem to be transported to a different place, but in fact I am still on the same spot.
From a few days ago when I started trying to understand it, I would always end up in the same situation, just in somewhat different places.
It’s all a white world filled with ice and snow. It is so cold that even wearing the normal winter clothes and down jackets can barely keep the cold at bay.
When I exit that state, I find that my body is experiencing the effects of the cold weather I had seen in those places and I wouldn’t even have the strength to cover myself.
I am adapting better now and don’t get as fatigued as before. But I still don’t understand what the place I keep going to means." Li Yunjia explained with frustration.
She had tried to study everything about what she saw and even realized that even though most of the world was covered in thick ice and snow piling up to the fifth floor, she could recognize that one of the places she saw was the community they were currently living in.
When they heard this last piece of information, Lu Zhen and Leng Pan immediately knew what was happening and what superpower their mother had awakened.
"Foreshadowing."
"Foreshadow."
The two said in unison.
Everyone else in the living room turned to look at the two people who spoke with such tacit understanding.
"What is that?" Uncle Li, although somewhat knowledgeable about the awakened, didn’t know what his sister’s superpower was.
"Mom’s superpower should be the ability to see the future. That must also be why she would be so exhausted every time. That was because she would travel to the future and that would take a lot of energy." Leng Pan explained.
"Are you trying to say that the kind of world I see when I use my superpower is something we will go through for real?" Li Yunjia asked in shock when she remembered everything she experiences every time.
It was cold enough to freeze someone to death in minutes. How are people going to survive then?
"That should be it." Lu Zhen said with his always serious expression.
No one doubted the couple. They all knew that this couple knew things the others didn’t and if they said something would happen, then it would most likely happen.
"Then, what should we do?" Lu Tao asked.
He was still young and even though he was adapting well, his mentality was still that of a fifteen-year-old teenager.
"We can only prepare better. Our apartments have an advanced heating system that can reduce the cold but from what Mom said, it might be colder than anticipated. So, we can also include other types of heaters into the budget.
There are portable electric heaters that can be charged or use fuel. Keeping one next to you should help more.
We can also use charcoal heaters inside the house. And Mom, those constant-temperature suits you made should come in handy." Leng Pan said as she tried to remember what the plot of the book said.
Of course, at this moment she was sifting through her memories to see if a place that had a lot of charcoal or firewood was mentioned.
She was no longer expecting to follow the exact chronological order of the disasters during the apocalypse mentioned in the novel.
At this point, she was almost sure that this was a real world, not some book world. Even though she hadn’t figured out how she ended up in it yet.
"Alright, I will speed up and make another pair for everyone. I am guessing one suit won’t be enough as we will need to change." Li Yunjia was glad she had been bored when the apocalypse began and used sewing the constant-temperature suits to pass time.
"I will help you sew the gloves, hats, socks, and masks. If the cold is as much as you said, then covering the body and leaving some parts exposed would be just as bad as not covering." Aunt Li said as she was also shaken by the information.
It looked like this apocalypse would only get worse and not better.
"That’s a good idea. We’ll have a better chance of avoiding cold-related illnesses if we take extra precautions." Uncle Li said when he heard his wife’s suggestion.
"Auntie, you should have awakened the wood superpower. Have you tested it?" Leng Pan, seeing the atmosphere getting heavy decisively changed the topic.
"Your uncle also said it was a wood superpower and it could help in growing plants. There are some vegetables and herbs planted in the kitchen and balcony and I have been practicing by hastening their growth little by little every day.
It works pretty well. In the next couple of days we can eat the vegetables I grew with my superpower." Aunt Li felt a little proud when she said this.
She was glad that she wasn’t useless and could somehow contribute to the family.
"That’s awesome, we don’t have to worry about fresh vegetables in the future. Now that we can’t go to the market to buy and probably nobody can plant crops anymore, having a way to plant fresh vegetables and fruits is such an awesome thing." Lu Tao was almost jumping for joy, and so was everyone else.
Even though Leng Pan had bought a lot of vegetables and fruits before the apocalypse, it wasn’t a bad thing to have more. After all, she didn’t know what would happen in the future.
"Speaking of which, we are running out of food. The food stuff remaining in the house could only sustain us for another week or so. Since everyone has awakened a superpower, our food consumption has almost doubled as we eat more than normal people.
What should we do?" Uncle Li who was in charge of the kitchen reported.
