Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 101: Troublesome Neighbors
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Troublesome Neighbors
The family had their meal as always and sat down in the living room to talk while Leng Pan and Lu Tao got their phones from somewhere and started to play games.
Even without the internet, there were many games they had downloaded that they could play. Especially Leng Pan.
Since she knew about the apocalypse and how boring it could get, she had downloaded a lot of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and games for leisure.
She didn’t want to forget everything about civilization and be bored to death for lack of modern technology.
However, remembering the very advanced technology in the space that claimed to be ancient, she wondered just how advanced modern technology could be compared to the ancient one.
She was aware that even in modern society, some things were hidden. Not every technology developed is announced to the public or provided for public use. Some were hidden away due to the potential danger they posed to the common people or world peace.
However, she doubted that anything had been invented that could rival the mansion in the space.
Leng Pan was sitting with her brother-in-law both so engrossed in their game and shouting at each other you would think they were two children having fun.
But seeing them like this, the elders and Lu Zhen just smiled. They were happy from the bottom of their hearts to have a blessed soul like Leng Pan in their lives.
They were sure that it was because of her that their family could sit down like this and enjoy this moment of peace and liveliness when other families had gloomy atmospheres.
They could imagine what many people were going through at the moment. It had been several days since the apocalypse began and many people were getting over the shock of zombies, superpower awakening, and the devastating damage that was caused by the falling of the meteorites.
Now they were coming back to their senses and starting to wonder what life would become from now on.
Looking outside their windows, they could see the increasing number of zombies roaming around the streets making grunting sounds.
They could even see some neighbors they had known for years walking with stiff bodies and rotten flesh in their bodies while biting and even eating other zombies.
This was the most disgusting and disturbing thing most ordinary people had ever seen. They had watched such movies before and they always thought that it was awesome to live in a place filled with superpower users and fighting the walking dead.
However, when the fantasy became a reality, nobody wanted this kind of life. Everyone wanted the world to return to its previous boring state. They would rather wake up early to go to their boring 9-5 job and get a fixed salary that was barely enough to cover their rent and food expenses.
Now, many had run out of food as they didn’t have the habit of stocking up supplies and just bought enough to last for a few days.
Others even depended on food delivery services and only had some snacks like biscuits and chocolates in the house.
After a few days, the snacks were gone. Now, people were starting to starve and human nature was taking over.
Humans are naturally selfish and only want to do things that benefit themselves. If they have extra, they can share when there is abundance and that is seen as being kind-hearted and one is labeled a good person or a philanthropist.
However, in a situation where you only have a little and don’t even know where your next meal will come from, these people would turn into the most selfish.
Not to mention sharing, they could even steal to satisfy their needs even if they are taking from the old, sick, and weak.
More than five days after the apocalypse began, there was a knock on the door and even Leng Pan and Lu Tao who had been engrossed in playing stopped for a moment to listen.
Having that anti-theft door at the moment when power lines in their area were still intact was useless. People could still use the elevator to get to their floor.
They listened for a while and the knocking came again. The soundproofing inside the apartment was good so even if the person outside was calling out to them, they couldn’t hear it.
However, that wasn’t the same for Lu Tao, he could hear everything being said outside.
The people out there were two women, one was carrying a child. Using his super vision, he looked through the door and could make out that the child was about three or four years old from his body size.
What made him surprised was that one of the voices of the two women was very familiar.
He could never forget the voice of the woman who was so unreasonable telling her husband that they should go and ask others for food and other supplies instead of going out into the zombie-infested streets to scavenge.
Looking at her standing outside the door, he wondered whether she had targeted their family because they looked like fools.
"Baby Tao, who are they?" Li Yunjia asked her younger son since they couldn’t figure out who was at the door and what they wanted.
"Mom, can you stop calling me by that nickname? It’s disturbing." Lu Tao protested against the name his mother insisted on calling him from time to time.
She hadn’t called him like that in a while and he had thought that she had stopped. Who would have known that it was just a phase and she went back to calling him the same after some time.
"I’ll call you whatever I want. Aren’t you the baby I gave birth to? You are my baby. Cut the crap and tell mommy, who are the people at the door?" Li Yunjia didn’t bother with her son’s grumbling and dissatisfaction.
She did it on purpose to irk him sometimes. Who told him to start following in his brother’s footsteps and start acting aloof and cold to everyone?
She already had one iceberg for a son, she didn’t want another.
Lu Tao resigned himself to his fate and stopped protesting. His mother could be unreasonable sometimes, but after witnessing the disaster that had befallen many families where their family members were wiped out, he didn’t dare to complain.
He was glad that he still had his family intact. Even if they could be annoying sometimes, at least they were alive.
"The people outside are serious trouble. It’s that woman from the other day who had an argument with her husband about asking for supplies from neighbors." Lu Tao said with a mocking smile.
