Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 146: Greed
"You need to relax. This is not the first time Dante has gotten a shot in the rib." Eva stared at him with dread written all over her face. Instantly, Rico realized he’d said something he shouldn’t have. "That man is made with more metal than flesh."
Even with what Rico had said, Eva couldn’t help but feel even more worried.
She just found out that Katherine was the sister that she’d been searching for for decades, and now, Dante had been shot by an unknown man.
Even if Dante didn’t tell her, she knew he did that to protect her. The laser had been on her and he’d taken the bullet meant for her instead.
Her heart ached at the thought of this. Even after everything, he would still lay down his life for her. She took a deep breath and excused herself.
She needed to find the person who just tried to kill Dante. There was already one person who wanted her dead, and that was none other than Mr. De Rossi. Now, catching the assassin will help out a lot.
She wiped her tears away when she reached the restroom and immediately called Ryan.
The night was a very long one after what had just transpired but the next morning wasn’t a perfect one for Mr. De Rossi at all.
He thought that staying locked in his home would be safe since he had lots of security who would protect him from harm, but the anger from the civilians only intensified.
Mr. De Rossi was tempted to instruct his men to shoot down anyone who tried to force their way in, but that would only confirm the things that were circulating around the internet about him.
His partners in crime had already fled the city, leaving him behind.
The only opportunity the old man had was early in the morning, when the crowd outside his home had returned. He took the back gate and immediately escaped.
However, when the civilians found out that he’d escaped, their rage only intensified.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Mrs. De Rossi questioned her husband, worry clearly marred on her face. "Maybe, you should have just addressed all the accusations before escaping."
"Address what?" Mr. De Rossi snapped back. "What can I possibly say now that they will believe? I might get shot if I step out to tell them anything. I’m their target, and I can’t afford to die—not now."
Mrs. De Rossi could only sigh. They’d arrived at her husband’s hideout—one he’d recently bought just in case a situation like this came through. He’d bought it without anyone knowing about it, just his trusted men, excluding Dante.
"Maybe...just maybe, if you’d done the right thing years ago, if you’d been content with what you had, then this wouldn’t have been happening to us right now," Mr. De Rossi said with a trembling voice.
Her husband immediately turned to look at her, his expression ugly and grave.
She gulped down her saliva and continued to talk.
"We would have been a happy family if you hadn’t let your greed control you. Dante, Mylo, and Rhea would all be here. We would all be a happy family. But no, you just had to ruin everything with your greed—"
She didn’t get to complete her sentence when Mr. De Rossi forcefully grabbed her jaw, his eyes red with rage.
"Greed! You never said that when you were enjoying the money my greed brought into the family. You never complained when you went on a shopping spree whenever you wanted. And now everything is going down south, you think you can suddenly give me advice?!" He yelled, his blood boiling in rage. He threw her face away, forcing her to stumble backwards. "I did everything to get my revenge and you know that. I’m only like this because of what they did to me first. Don’t you ever forget that."
And with that, he stormed into one of the rooms.
Somewhere else in Lexora,
Katherine was watching the news reporter who was talking about the disappearance of Mr. De Rossi. His whereabouts were not yet to be found out.
She dumped her mouth with a handful of popcorn before she switched the channel to something else.
"I feel so bored," she groaned as she switched from one channel to the other. "Maybe I should have just stalked that bitch today, but I don’t know where she is." She groaned once again.
Her gaze fell on her clothes which were looking tacky. She wore similar sets of clothes everything now, anything that could conceal her identity would do.
"I need dresses, shoes, and bags." She stood up from the couch and marched towards Marcus’s study. Even after they returned to Lexora, he still bought a house there, only making her wonder just how much he had in his bank account.
She didn’t have any money of her own anymore, so she had to ask Marcus for money all the time.
When she reached his study and was about to knock, she heard a sound from the inside. She quickly paused and leaned towards the door to hear properly.
"Just give me a few more days. I promise I’ll get it in a few days. I only need time," Marcus said over the phone, beads of sweat dripping from his head.
"That’s exactly what you’ve been saying for the past month, Marcus. You have a family don’t you?" The receiver questioned.
Instantly, Marcus paled.
"Don’t harm my family," he said, his gaze hardening. He’d gotten himself into a lot of trouble just so he could help Katherine and their children. He wasn’t going to lose them. "In fact, I think it’s time I told you what had been going on in my mind. I want to quit. I’m done being your messenger."
The receiver laughed as if he’d just heard the lamest joke.
"After everything I’ve done for you, you want to quit?" He questioned.
Marcus rubbed his temples in frustration but when he parted his lips to speak, the door suddenly opened.
"Who are you talking to?" Katherine questioned as she stood by the door.
