Chapter 46 - Is this your lover?

Hua Qingyan sat in her private office at her merchant company, as she studied the reports before her.

Across from her stood Liu Feng, his expression as unreadable as ever.

She finally looked up and met his sharp gaze. "Find out who's behind Minister Zhao's death," she ordered. "And also..." she tapped the table lightly, "I need more solid proof of the Second Prince's treasonous activities. We can't afford to act without absolute certainty."

Liu Feng nodded. "I understand, my lady. I will report back as soon as I find something."

With that, he disappeared into the night.

Hua Qingyan and Meixi walked through the narrow alley, making their way back home. However, as they turned into a further narrow alley, a familiar voice rang out.

"Well, well. Isn't this the young man from before?"

Qingyan's gaze flickered toward the source. It was the handsome man from earlier, leaning against the wall with a smirk, surrounded by a few of his peers. His piercing eyes glinted with amusement as they locked onto her.

Before Qingyan could respond, the man's gaze shifted toward Meixi. "And is this your lover?" he asked, teasingly.

Meixi's face turned red in both anger and embarrassment. "How dare...!" she started, but Hua Qingyan raised a hand, stopping her.

She gave the man an indifferent look and let them believe she was truly a man. "You have a wild imagination," she said.

The man chuckled. "Just calling it as I see it." He stepped closer, resting a hand on Qingyan's shoulder. "You carry yourself differently from others in this city. What's your name?"

Before he could fully grasp her shoulder, Hua Qingyan moved swiftly, twisting his hand in a fluid motion.

The man inhaled sharply, his body tensing at the sudden jerk. For a brief moment, as their eyes met, there was an odd spark, something unfamiliar, something that made his chest tighten.

But he quickly dismissed the thought, his mind snapping back to the reality that the person in front of him was, supposedly, another man.

His companions laughed. "Hah! Looks like someone finally put you in your place!"

He clicked his tongue, shaking off the momentary daze. Instead of reacting in anger, he let out a low chuckle. "Interesting," he murmured, rubbing his wrist. His eyes flickered with curiosity as he watched Qingyan, as if seeing her in a new light.

Qingyan merely released his hand and turned away, unfazed. "If you have time to make baseless assumptions, use it for something more useful," she said, walking past him with Meixi following close behind.

The man watched her retreating figure, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Who exactly are you...?" he muttered under his breath.
