Revenge of the Phoenix Beauty-Chapter 26: Danger coming
Chapter 26: Danger coming
Hua Qingyan walked into her father's study, slowly. She could already guess why he had summoned her.
Hua Zhen sat behind his desk, his sharp eyes watching her expression closely. His face was unreadable, but she noticed something, a pride mixed with worry.
"Sit."
She obeyed, and sat before him like she waited for this moment.
After some time of silence, he asked, "Sigh, How is it that your merchant company is the only one selling medicine and supplies? How did you predict this illness would come?"
Qingyan's expression remained calm but her fingers twitched."Father, I gathered information. Rumors of an illness were spreading from the borders months ago. I just simply prepared early."
Hua Zhen studied her carefully. He didn't fully believe her, but he had no proof to question her further. After all, his daughter had always been intelligent.
"Information, you say?" he repeated.
"Yes," she replied smoothly. "Isn't it the same in court? Those who know more survive better."
Her father's lips twitched slightly, almost as if he wanted to smile, but his stern expression returned. "Your actions are going draw more attention. People are talking. Even I am surprised by how well you handled this."
Qingyan lowered her eyes. "I only did what was necessary, Father."
Hua Zhen sighed. "You have done well, but be careful. Many are going to see you as a threat after this."
Qingyan looked at him directly. "Then Father, please stop sending spies to follow me."
Hua Zhen remained silent. He didn't deny it.
"That's a bold request," he said.
"I have no ill intentions toward our family," Qingyan replied. "If you trust me, you won't need spies watching my every move."
Hua Zhengyi leaned back in his chair, silent for a long moment. Then, he simply said, "We'll see."

Qingyan knew this was not a promise, but it was enough for now.
"Be careful, Qingyan," her father warned. "The world is not kind to those who rise too quickly."
She smiled faintly. "I understand, Father."
With that she left his study, though her face remained calm, her heart was set in blaze.
