Chapter 67: The Lines Drawn

"Try me. I dare you."

Iris grew furious hearing his challenging words as she clenched her fists.

Gritting her teeth, she said, "Good. Very good, Aren Frost."

"Since you are so confident..." she smiled, "it will be fun letting you witness the consequences of going against Titan Crest Entertainment."

Aren simply scoffed at her words, leaning back on his comfy chair with folded hands.

Iris was truly irritated with him at this point, unable to wait any longer to put him in his place.

However, there was another person she had to show her place.

She rose up from her seat and looked down at Lisa, speaking with an indifferent expression: "You can be forgiven if you come and apologize to me. You can still have what I offered you previously. I hope you will make a wise choice."

Lisa didn’t speak, nor did she look at her, keeping her gaze lowered to the floor. She had decided to place her trust in Aren, and she was going to stick with him until the end.

Iris shot an irritated look at Aren one last time before turning around and leaving.

As soon as she left, Lisa worriedly turned to Aren, asking, "What will she do?... I’m scared."

Aren smiled at her assuringly: "Don’t worry. Just trust me and watch what happens."

...

Aren sent Lisa out of the meeting room first before moving to retrieve the cameras and mics he had placed in various different spots.

After he had retrieved everything, he hid them in his clothes before returning to the set and putting them back in his backpack.

Then, until afternoon, they continued the shooting in peace before the director received a phone call.

The call appeared to be from an important person by the way he talked on the phone.

"What?! Why?" His loud voice resounded across the set, attracting everyone’s attention to him and his frustrated expression.

After the call ended, the director seemed tense as he called Aren and Lisa.

Aren could guess what had happened; still, he looked forward to watching the director’s reaction.

Standing in front of the director in a corner, Lisa looked at the director with an anxious gaze, asking, "What is it, sir?"

The director looked at Lisa and Aren with a solemn gaze and let out a sigh: "The platform wants to replace you two from the drama."

"What??" Lisa was shocked. "But why?"

Aren, meanwhile, didn’t seem surprised. He even appeared amused.

"They didn’t give a reason," the director informed, appearing confused himself. "They just said that they won’t be producing if you two are in the drama. They even offered to pay you two the compensation amount for replacing you despite the contract."

"So?" Aren asked with a faint smile, "What do you plan on doing?"

Fin Jacobs shook his head. "I don’t know. I wanted to let you both know first and ask for your advice."

"What’s there to ask?" Aren said with folded hands, "It’s your decision to make. If you want to replace us, just say so. Otherwise, you will have to find a new platform and producer."

"Hey, how can you be so nonchalant about this?" the director complained. "I’m sweating bullets here."

"What’s there to be confused about?" Aren shrugged. "Just choose what is more important to you. After all, both platforms and actors are replaceable. Just choose the less important one to replace."

The director stomped his leg on the ground in frustration before sighing: "Alright, let’s end today’s shooting and let me have some time to think and decide. I’ll let you know about my decision tomorrow morning. I also need to discuss this over with Kace."

...

While Aren and Lisa were getting fired from their own drama, Linda was busy preparing to air the evidence to the whole country tonight.

"Edit the evidence faster," she yelled to one editor who was sitting in front of a computer, editing the raw recordings and audio for airing tonight. She then turned to another person and yelled, "Finish the script already. I need to review it and prepare, too."

"Why are you all so slow?" She pressed her hand against her forehead as if suffering from a headache, shaking her head in disappointment.

At this moment, the glass door swung open, and entered a fifty-something-year-old man with a 5-foot height and a visible round belly and bald head.

He was the news director of Sun News Television.

With his hands clasped behind his back, he asked in a stern voice: "What are you doing, Linda?"

"Good afternoon, Sir Birak." Linda greeted politely before explaining, "I’m preparing for tonight’s news, the one against Lucian Valcourt."

Birak nodded and then ordered: "Stop it. It won’t be airing anymore."

"Huh?" Linda was shocked, her eyes twitching as she asked with a forced smile, "What do you mean, sir? The preparations are already halfway completed, and I can promise you this news will bring in a lot of buzz and profits."

"Linda," Birak said in an authoritative tone, "don’t you understand what I said? Stop it."

"But sir..." Linda protested, "What will we air tonight if not this news? We have already prepared for it."

"Do I have to tell you everything?" Birak said with an irritated expression, "Just air the news about that missing cat or that bald man claiming to be a cultivator with mystical arts."

Linda clenched her fists in anger, her shoulders trembling.

Birak turned around, leaving with a satisfied smile on his face as he suddenly heard Linda’s voice.

"I won’t do it." Linda muttered in a low voice as her voice grew louder and confident when she said it again, "I won’t do it, you bald piece of shit!"

She had almost yelled that last part out loud.

Birak’s eyes widened in shock, his steps halting in a single stop as he pivoted to look at Linda.

He forced a smile on his face, "I can understand your frustration, Linda."

A vein popped on his forehead due to the anger he suppressed.

Linda was the top anchor of Sun Television, something like a star of the network.

Even if he wanted nothing more than to humiliate her and throw her out, he couldn’t. The network would suffer if she left.

"I’m willing to look past this once," he said, swallowing his anger. "Just make sure not to repeat this."

"Now go and prepare for tonight’s news."

However, Linda had enough of this as she muttered through gritted teeth, "I’m quitting. I’ll take this evidence and join a network that won’t mind showing the truth instead of hiding it."
