Chapter 27: The Moon Goddess Must Be Out Of Her Damn Mind!

Iris’s POV

Lyra’s voice didn’t stop. She kept snarling, her words slicing through my mind and senses. Mate! Mate!" The sound was relentless, a piercing voice that made my chest ache with a strange pull. Immediately. I scrambled to my feet as I wiped the tears from my cheeks. My eyes locked onto them standing in the doorway. Their presence, suffocating me.

Shortly, Cade’s voice came first, his hot temper flaring as his eyes narrowed cold on me. "The mate pull led us to her?!" he snapped, his fists clenching at his sides. His broad shoulders tensed, and his jaw ticked with barely restrained fury. "Hell no! The Moon Goddess must’ve lost her damn mind!"

Kael who’s leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed, a lazy smirk suddenly played on his lips. His nonchalant attitude was a courageous act to Cade’s anger.

"She’s got no ass too. Just flat," Kael said, his eyes raking over me with a dismissive flick, like I was nothing just as they saw me.

He tilted his head, his hair falling slightly to his eyes as he chuckled softly in mock.

Zane stood apart, his hands buried in the pockets of his dark trousers, and black jacket, his icy blue eyes fixed on me. His expression was unreadable, but a slow, cruel smirk curled his lips, sending a shiver down my spine. He stepped forward, and in fear, instinctively, my foots moved backwards, my back brushing against the rough wall. His voice broke the silence. "Isn’t the Moon Goddess fair enough?" he said, his smirk widening as he leaned closer, his breath warm against my face. "I mean, even she knows you don’t deserve to be happy. That’s why she mated you to us."

Kael’s chuckle filled the room, "More opportunity to keep her in her place, don’t you think?" he added, his tone casual. He pushed off the doorframe, sauntering closer, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Zane, you’re right. This is going to be fun."

My chest tightened, the mate pull warring with the rage boiling inside me as I snapped. "I don’t want to be your mate!" I yelled, my voice. "I reject you! All of you!"

Kael burst into a short laugh. He tilted his head back. "Oh, that." he said. "You think you have a choice, slave girl? You’re nothing. Less than nothing."

Cade’s face twisted with disgust, his brows furrowing as he stepped closer, towering over me. "I don’t know about Zane," he growled, his voice filled with rage. "but the Moon Goddess made a mistake mating me with a slave. A murderer. A cursed, wolfless omega like you." He spat the words without conscience, his fists fidgeting at his sides in fury. "What was she thinking, tying me to someone who doesn’t even belong in this pack by blood? Daughter of a thief who stole the alpha throne? You’re a stain on Black Bane, Iris. A nobody who dares to breathe the same air as me. If only I could take those breaths from you..." he paused, stepping closer as he stood an inch from me as he leaned forward, his cold gaze and emotionless expression sending shivers down my spine. "Stop dreaming Iris. You will never be my mate."

The sudden pain came again as I clutched my chest. His words hit me, each one sinking deeper into my chest. My knees wobbled, but I refused to let fall to the ground, even as tears pricked my eyes.

Cade’s took a step, and he leaned closer, his voice dropping to a hateful whisper. "Know your place, omega. You’re nothing but dirt under my boots. I, Cade, future Alpha of Darius Verek, Alpha of the Blackbane, reject you, Iris, as my mate."

The rejection slammed into me, a physical force that stole my breath as my grip to my chest tightened. Pain seared through my chest unbearably, sharp and burning. I gasped, clutching my chest as my knees buckled, and I sank to the floor. Cade watched me writhe in agony, they all did.

"Look at her," Zane sneered as Cade turned on his heel and left. "Pathetic." He shut the door.

Zane remained, his cold eyes studying me. He didn’t move, didn’t flinch, just stood there with that same emotionless smirk with both hands in his pockets. Slowly, he crouched in front of me, his face inches from mine. "I won’t reject you," he said, his voice chilling, devoid of any warmth. "No, Iris. I’ll keep you as my mate. And I’ll make sure you suffer every single day for it."

He tilted his head forward coldly. "I’ll make your life a living hell until you’re begging to join your dead parents in the ground." Before I could react, his hand shot out, his fingers wrapping around my throat. He squeezed, not hard enough to choke me completely, but enough to make my lungs burn as I struggled to breathe. I clawed at his hand, my nails scraping his skin, but he didn’t let go. His grip tightened briefly, his eyes gleaming with cold satisfaction, before he shoved me back and I collapsed to the floor, coughing violently, my throat sore as tears streamed down my cheeks. Strangling me has always been his favorite thing. As if seeing me breathing irritates him.

Zane stood, brushing his hands together as if ridding himself of dirt. "Your rejection means nothing," he said, his voice flat. "It’s not valid either. You don’t get to walk away from this." With that, he turned and walked out, his footsteps fading into the corridor, leaving me alone in the suffocating silence. And Kael followed. I know I hated them all but Zane? I hate him with passion.

I pressed my hands to my face, my sobs shaky to my body as I curled into myself on the ground. The pain of Cade’s rejection still burned in my chest, and Kael and Zane’s words echoed in my mind, each one a fresh wound to my already wounded heart. Why was the moon goddess treating me this way? She’d never given me a moment of happiness even though it was just for 24 hours. Maybe the moon goddess hates me too. Maybe? No, not maybe. I am sure she hates me.

My eyes suddenly darted to the small clock on the wall. It was 11:50 p.m. My heart skipped as I remembered Alpha Trent’s words. The full moon was to be in two days and it was tonight, the night every werewolf’s power peaked at midnight. My journey from Warborn to Black Bane had taken two grueling days, and now, here I was, facing the worst night of my life and on top that, I’ll be having my first shift today, will be shifting into a weak wolf and as if that wasn’t enough, I got mated to monsters. What was the point of staying here? What was the point of enduring my first shift when I didn’t even know how to even control my werewolf abilities? Even if I managed to shift, I’d likely transform into a weak, pathetic wolf, and the triplets and everyone would mock me, taunt me, make my life even worse.

What was the point of living?

The thought hit me and before I could stop myself, I shoved the door open and sprinted, running through the corridors, my breath coming in sharp gasps. I didn’t know where I was going, didn’t care, just let my wolf instinct guide me, urging me to run, far away from everyone.

The cool night air hit my face as I burst outside, the moon hanging low in the sky, nearly full, its silver light casting light across the ground. Then, I resumed running until I stumbled into a clearing where a group of werewolves of blackbane had gathered. They stood in a loose circle, their faces lit by the moon glow, their voices raised in cheers as they celebrated under the growing moon, obviously they were happy to experience this day. My heart sank as I saw the triplets were there, standing near the fire. And beside them was Liora, their future Luna, eyes locking coldly onto me the moment she saw me standing a few distance from them.

"Well, well," Liora drawled, her lips curling into a cruel smile as she stepped forward. "Look who decided to crawl out of her hole. The cursed omega."

The crowd’s laughter came in chorus. Cade stepped beside Liora, his arm brushing hers possessively as he planted her a kiss.

Kael sauntered towards me. "What’s the matter, Iris? Come to embarrass yourself in front of the whole pack?" He shoved me lightly, just enough to make me stumble but i didn’t fall. The others joined in, circling me, pushing me from one to another as I kept falling to the ground and they would push me again to one another the moment I get on my feet. And I could barely keep my balance as they continued to toss me around.

"Pathetic," one of the pack members’ voices cut through the noise, as Zane stood at the edge of the circle, his hands in his pockets, watching with that same emotionless stare. freewebnσvel.cѳm

Just then, Zane stepped forward in the midst of everyone as he declared. "Listen up everyone! She’s our mate!" He declared sarcastically as everyone burst into laughter as their cruel words came bashing my heart.

"Dreaming big."

"What made her think, the triplets will accept her?"

"She’s always had an eye on them." Another said.

"She knows they got a mate and future Luna but she still goes ahead to submit herself!"

"Shameless!" Their words kept coming as the taunts grew louder. My hands flew to my ears, covering them as I sprinted into the forest.
