Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 63: A New Heaven and Earth
"Teacher? Have you ever truly regarded this old man as your teacher?"
Xiao Liang turned to face Nalan Jie, his voice cold. "I told you he was my friend. I said he was to be treated with courtesy. But what did you do? Did you think I wouldn’t see through your little scheme?"
At these words, Nalan Jie trembled. Still, he muttered defiantly, "But he blinded my son! Shouldn’t I be allowed to vent my anger?"
"Shut up." Nalan Jie, concerned with saving face, spoke quietly.
Xiao Liang, on the other hand, believed that one should have nothing to hide. His expression hardened as he rebuked him loudly, his eyes filled with the disappointment of a mentor for a failed student.
"For all these years, you have sent gifts to honor me, which shows you have a sense of gratitude. But this time, you were wrong. Do you claim to be unaware of Nalan Feng’s usual behavior?
"I know you were busy with work and neglected your wife. You weren’t even by her side when she died. You feel guilty about it, so you poured everything you had into your son. But you must understand that his blindness is not the fault of others; the blame lies with your own overindulgence.
"You want Mr. Wu Tian to compensate you, but who will compensate those whose eyes your son gouged out?
"Nalan Jie, our teacher-student relationship is hereby severed. From now on, handle your own business matters. Don’t come looking for me again."
After he finished speaking, he ignored the pale-faced Nalan Jie and turned to Wu Tian. "Mr. Wu Tian, today’s acquisitions were quite impressive. My humble home is not far from here. Would you care to pay a visit?"
"This..." Wu Tian hesitated, his thoughts turning to his wife and children.
"Grandpa’s house has lots of treasures, like ancient swords and paintings," Xia Qian chimed in.
"Are there any ancient tripods?" Wu Tian asked, an idea occurring to him.
"Yes," Xiao Liang replied.
"Good," Wu Tian nodded. "I’ll go."
He didn’t spare a single glance for Nalan Jie or the others. To him, these people weren’t his enemies—they didn’t even deserve the title.
Wu Tian followed Xiao Liang and Xia Qian, carrying the jade stone with him. But just before leaving, he shot a glare at Nalan Jie.
Sometimes, death isn’t the most terrible fate; it’s merely a moment of pain. He, however, wanted Nalan Jie to suffer for the rest of his life.
He would nearly trip and fall to his death while walking. He would nearly choke to death while drinking water. From now on, countless misfortunes would befall Nalan Jie.
Tears streamed down Nalan Jie’s face as he was overwhelmed with regret. As for Old Zhen, he had already collapsed to the ground, powerless, his reputation completely ruined.
Nangong Yi was completely ignored by Wu Tian as he left, which was a crushing blow to his pride. Even a provocative glance from Wu Tian would have felt better than this.
"What does he mean by this? Is he looking down on me?" Nangong Yi hissed. "Yes, you’re powerful, but don’t forget, my professional skills are superior to yours! Without me, how could you have secured the case with the multinational corporation?"
Seeing the hatred in Nangong Yi’s eyes, as if he were ready to devour someone, Lin Tianlong couldn’t help but ask, "Are you alright?"
"I’m fine. What could possibly bother me? You think anything Wu Tian does could affect me? I’m telling you, absolutely not! Whatever he does seems trivial and ordinary to me. It’s no big deal," Nangong Yi feigned indifference and turned to leave. He didn’t know if Wu Tian’s words were true, but from that day on, whenever he slept, he was trapped in inescapable nightmares. The pain from these dreams, from which he could never wake, would haunt him.
At that moment, Lin Fa approached Lin Tianlong.
"What is it, my dear *big brother*?"
"Take it," Lin Fa said, tossing Lin Tianlong’s suit jacket back to him.
"What is the meaning of this?" Lin Tianlong’s face darkened.
"It’s your own coat, so you can hold it yourself. I’m not your servant," Lin Fa stated firmly.
After witnessing Wu Tian in action, Lin Fa understood the kind of person he wanted to become. He, too, wanted to be a resolute man, not a coward.
"You..." Lin Tianlong seethed, about to step forward and teach Lin Fa a lesson.
"What are you two doing?" a voice called out, causing Lin Tianlong to lower his hand. A middle-aged man approached with a flamboyantly dressed woman.
"Dad, I wasn’t doing anything, just joking around with Big Brother," Lin Tianlong said with a smile.
Lin Heng nodded and said seriously, "You should be nicer to your big brother in the future, understand?"
"Dear, what’s wrong with them having a little fun? It helps them bond as brothers," the woman, Sun Xiawei, said, defending her son.
Lin Tianlong was curious. When he bullied Lin Fa at home, his dad would just look the other way. Why was today so different?
Lin Heng, however, ignored Lin Tianlong and looked at Lin Fa with a pleased expression. "Son, are you well-acquainted with that Xiao Liang?"
"Reasonably so," Lin Fa nodded.
His own family had a business, Lin’s Food Co., Ltd., but he wasn’t allowed to work there. He had to rely on his own abilities to get a job in the logistics department of Qin Corporation, where he worked his way up to deputy director. Thinking back on everyone he had ever met, he realized that apart from his deceased mother, Wu Tian was the only one who had ever been truly good to him.
"Good, good, good! Invite him to our house as a guest tomorrow," Lin Heng said with a grin. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"There’s no need," Lin Fa replied, shaking his head. His portly appearance made him seem simple and honest, but having grown up in such a family, how could he possibly be a fool? He wasn’t a fool; he just played one. His was a case of great wisdom masquerading as foolishness. He instantly guessed Lin Heng’s intentions.
A bitter feeling welled up inside him. After all these years, is this the first time you’ve treated me like a son, and only because it benefits you?
"Why not?" Lin Heng frowned slightly.
"Exactly! How dare you disobey your father?" Sun Xiawei immediately chided him. "I knew it was a waste for your father to raise you. How can you possibly compare to my Tianlong?"
"You’re right, I can’t compare," Lin Fa said, taking a deep breath and speaking in the calmest tone he could manage. "I won’t be coming back anymore. That place isn’t right for me anyway."
This was a lesson Wu Tian had taught him.
Some things must be let go when the time comes. Only by letting go can you see a new horizon.
Lin Fa turned and walked away.
At the sight, Lin Heng felt a pang, as if he’d lost something important, but he quickly shook his head. He already had an excellent son in Lin Tianlong. In his mind, Lin Fa couldn’t compare to his second son—his true successor.
"What a pity," Lin Heng said. "But it’s fine. Tianlong, if Lin Fa can get close to that young man and befriend him, so can you."
"Why do I have to get close to him and become his friend?" Lin Tianlong asked, puzzled. He had no desire to approach Wu Tian.
"Because of Mr. Xiao Liang," Lin Heng said gravely.
Xiao Liang had once been a major figure, but he rarely appeared in public after growing old. Besides antique enthusiasts, very few young people knew who he was.
"Is he really that impressive?" Lin Tianlong asked.
"Very. His son is the governor of Southern Province," Lin Heng said solemnly.
"What?" Lin Tianlong was utterly shocked. Dragon Country had many provinces and cities, but it was said that there were really only four major regions: the East, the South, the West, and the North. The governor of the Southern Province could one day be promoted to Longjing, where he could help shape the fate of Dragon Country.
"I understand," Lin Tianlong said, his breathing growing ragged. He clenched his fists. "Don’t worry, I will definitely become friends with Wu Tian."
