Chapter 51: Chapter 51: The Little Guy’s Competition

The little one started to cry.

For a moment, Wu Tian was at a loss. As the Immortal Emperor, he had braved countless storms on his path to power. There was no situation he could not handle, yet this was the one time he felt his heart thrown into turmoil.

All Wu Tian could do was rush over, sweep the little one into his arms, and comfort her. "It was Papa’s fault. Papa shouldn’t have left you alone. What’s a family gathering? Nothing is as cute as my baby! Right?"

The little one hmphed, turning her head away to continue crying.

Qin Yuhan frantically pulled out a delicate handkerchief to wipe the girl’s tears.

But Gugu’s heart ached. How could she forget so quickly?

"You’re a kid without a dad, you know that?"

"Gugu, I have a dad. Why don’t you?"

"Gugu, we’re not playing with you anymore. You don’t have a dad. You’re a weirdo."

The words of the other children echoed in her ears like memories, and years of pent-up sorrow erupted all at once.

I may be small, but I have my own sorrows! Don’t you know?

"Sweetie, don’t cry. Your Papa is here," Wu Tian said, holding Gugu’s head against his chest. Her tears soaked the front of his shirt, but he didn’t mind in the slightest. What was a piece of clothing? For this child, Wu Tian would give anything.

Qin Yuhan comforted her from the side as well. In that moment, the two of them finally looked like a real couple.

Lin Mo watched the scene quietly, feeling happy for Gugu. At the kindergarten, Gugu was the only child who didn’t have a papa. Lin Mo’s heart ached for her.

After a long while, Gugu’s crying subsided, and her trembling little body finally grew calm. Once the tears stopped, she suddenly lifted her head and looked at Wu Tian and Qin Yuhan. With a wronged expression, she asked, "Then tell me... are you two really my Papa and Mama?"

"Of course we are," Wu Tian and Qin Yuhan replied in unison.

"Then why are you different from other kids’ Papas and Mamas? You don’t sleep together," the little girl said loudly, mustering all her courage.

This is not a conversation I should be listening to, is it? How inappropriate! Lin Mo thought, looking embarrassed.

"I have to go now," she said quickly. "When you leave, just turn off the lights and close the door."

"No, no!" Gugu cried out. "The more the merrier! Sister Mo, you taught me that. You can sleep with us too!"

"No, really, I can’t," Lin Mo said, fleeing in a panic.

"I think we should head back too," Qin Yuhan said awkwardly.

Wu Tian nodded and picked the little one up. As they left the kindergarten and walked to the car, Gugu still wasn’t ready to let Wu Tian and Qin Yuhan off the hook. Cradled in Wu Tian’s arms, she wriggled her little bottom emphatically. "Tell me, tell me! Are you going to sleep together or not?"

Wu Tian thought for a second and quickly replied, "You’ll have to ask your Mama."

Gugu immediately turned her gaze to Qin Yuhan.

Wu Tian was trying to pass the buck, but Qin Yuhan wasn’t about to take it. "Sweetie, your Papa is tricking you," she said.

Gugu’s eyes widened. She knew her Papa and Mama were trying to fool her. All the way to the car, she wriggled her little bottom furiously with an expression that said she was unhappy, furious, and utterly unconvinced. Her pouty look made both Wu Tian and Qin Yuhan secretly chuckle.

Once they were home, Gugu struggled out of Qin Yuhan’s arms and scampered barefoot over to Xia Yumeng, who was watching a TV drama. "I’m not happy! I’m not happy!"

"Huh? What’s wrong?" Xia Yumeng asked, looking at the little girl in puzzlement.

The commotion even startled Qin Zhengyang, who had returned home and was in his study. Seeing his granddaughter was upset, he hurried over. "Sweetie, who upset you? Tell Grandpa, and I’ll be sure to help."

Wu Tian and Qin Yuhan looked on glumly. Hearing her grandfather’s promise, Gugu was suddenly overjoyed. She giggled and said, "I just want Papa and Mama to sleep together! Am I wrong?"

"No," Qin Zhengyang and Xia Yumeng said in unison.

"You two..." Qin Yuhan stomped her foot in embarrassment.

Then, Gugu seemed to remember something else. She ran up and turned off the television.

"Hey! Baby, what’s that for?" Xia Yumeng asked with a pout, still wanting to watch her idol drama.

Gugu, however, beamed at her family as if presenting a treasure. She giggled and announced, "Sister Mo said I have a nice singing voice and wants me to enter the Yang City children’s singing competition!"

Qin Zhengyang and the others exchanged glances. They knew they needed to encourage her, so they chimed in one by one.

"That’s my granddaughter! I always knew you had a beautiful voice."

"That’s right, you’ll be a Heavenly Empress in the future!" Xia Yumeng declared.

"Well, she has my talent," Qin Yuhan added.

Only Wu Tian was at a loss for words.

Seeing Wu Tian’s silence, Gugu huffed again. "In Papa’s heart, isn’t my voice the most beautiful?"

Hearing this, Wu Tian quickly copied the others. "Of course it is. You’re my idol. Your voice is the most beautiful I’ve ever heard."

Gugu stared at Wu Tian with her big eyes. She clearly fell for it and immediately announced, "Then Gugu will sing a song for everyone!"

"Great!" Wu Tian and the others nodded.

"But first, I need a reward."

A reward?

While Wu Tian was still confused, Qin Yuhan had already scooped Gugu into her arms and planted a big kiss on her little cheek.

With a giggle, the little girl began to sing.

*"Listen to Mama’s words, don’t let her get hurt. I want to grow up fast so I can protect her..."* Her voice was ethereal, and anyone who heard it would find her utterly adorable.

Qin Yuhan was so delighted she kissed her daughter’s cheeks several more times.

Seeing this, Wu Tian couldn’t help but smile. "In that case, how about you sing a song for Papa, too?"

"Papa, don’t even think about it!" Gugu suddenly exclaimed.

"What do you mean?" Wu Tian asked, completely baffled.

"There’s Mama’s slobber on my face!" Gugu announced. "You want me to sing so you can kiss me, too. Are you just trying to get Mama’s slobber?"

Wu Tian’s face darkened; he wanted to say he had no such intention at all. Meanwhile, Qin Yuhan’s pretty face flushed bright red at the accusation.

Just then, Wu Tian’s phone rang. He answered the call.

It was Lin Mo. "The singing competition is at the opera house, three days from now in the morning. Will you be able to get her up on time that day?"

"Absolutely," Wu Tian laughed. "If she doesn’t wake up, I’ll spank her."

Hearing the words "spank her," Gugu was so frightened she immediately shrank back into Qin Yuhan’s embrace.
