Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 45: Self-righteous
Wu Tian saw that it was Lin Mo who had arrived.
"Come here, sweetheart. Let big sister take you inside, okay?" Lin Mo walked up, signaling to Wu Tian that he could hand the little girl over to her. When it came to things like this, Lin Mo had experience.
Wu Tian nodded and placed the child into Lin Mo’s arms. Even so, the little girl still clung to Wu Tian’s collar, refusing to let go. "Crawly, don’t go! Don’t go!"
"Baby, you need to get used to being by yourself. Weren’t you fine before Crawly was around?"
"No!" In Lin Mo’s arms, the little girl kept her grip on Wu Tian’s collar. The action brought Lin Mo so close to Wu Tian that she could feel his breath. Her pretty face flushed red. This was the first time she had ever been so intimate with a man.
Wu Tian quickly started to soothe the child. After a while, she finally quieted down in Lin Mo’s arms and let go of his collar.
Wu Tian and Lin Mo both breathed a sigh of relief. If an outsider had seen this scene, they would have mistaken them for a family.
"Thank you for the other day," Lin Mo said, suddenly remembering something. She looked at Wu Tian with her gentle yet enchanting eyes and expressed her gratitude.
"Don’t mention it. It was nothing," Wu Tian said with a wave of his hand.
After chatting with Lin Mo for a little while longer, Wu Tian left.
"That ’Crawly’ of yours seems like a good guy. No wonder Yuhan likes him," Lin Mo said as she carried the little girl into the kindergarten.
"Yeah, yeah! Crawly is super strong!" Hearing someone praise her Crawly, the little girl began to dance with joy.
「Wu Tian drove to the corporation.」
He noticed that since the street racing incident, some of the female employees had started looking at him with a hint of admiration. Others, like Bing Hong, regarded him with even more disdain. Wu Tian didn’t mind, though. I just love it when you can’t stand me but can’t do anything about it.
Wu Tian stayed busy the entire morning, diligently handling all the responsibilities of the Head of the Logistics Department. Thankfully, he managed to get everything done. For him, such tasks were trivial.
At the same time, he also spent the morning asking Lin Fa about the corporation. He learned from Lin Fa that although the Qin Corporation appeared calm on the surface, its power structure was complex. The company might bear the Qin name, but it also had other shareholders, many of whom had their own relatives working within the corporation. As a result, the company was riddled with cliques and factions.
Wu Tian couldn’t help but smile at the news. None of that matters to me. I’ll deal with whatever challenges come my way.
Time slipped by silently, and soon it was lunchtime.
The moment the break started, Liang Qingren came looking for Wu Tian. She remembered her grandmother’s instructions and knew she had to work hard for the sake of the Liang family. Besides, she had to admit she had feelings for Wu Tian. It was the first time she had ever felt this way about a boy, and she didn’t want to give up.
Wu Tian, however, just thought of Liang Qingren as a friend. He was very interested in her Earth Fleeing Golden Light Physique and wanted to help her awaken it. Of course, now isn’t the right time.
At noon, Wu Tian and Liang Qingren headed to the cafeteria together. Before they could get there, a man with a bruised and swollen face blocked their path. Wu Tian and Liang Qingren took a closer look and were surprised to see it was Chen Cheng.
"Boss! Boss Wu Tian!" he exclaimed, looking overjoyed to see Wu Tian. He looked like he was one step away from dropping to his knees.
"What’s all this about?" Wu Tian had seen all sorts of things and was unfazed by Chen Cheng’s bizarre behavior.
Liang Qingren, however, grew tense, worried that Chen Cheng was planning some new trick. She instinctively tugged on the corner of Wu Tian’s shirt, warning him to be careful.
"If you have something to say, say it quickly. I don’t like people who dawdle," Wu Tian said flatly.
"Yes, yes, yes," Chen Cheng nodded hurriedly. "Boss, please don’t be angry. That last incident was all my fault. I hope a magnanimous person like you can overlook the transgressions of a lesser man like me. Please, just treat me like I’m nothing and let this go."
Wu Tian’s brow furrowed slightly. "What do you mean?"
"It’s Ah Gou and his guys. They’re giving me trouble every single day. The moment I get off work, they corner me and beat me... Boss Wu Tian, I’m begging you, please show mercy and spare me," Chen Cheng pleaded, his eyes filled with desperation. If he weren’t in the middle of the company, he probably would have knelt.
Chen Cheng was drowning in regret. He had schemed to have the thugs make Wu Tian’s life miserable, never imagining that he himself would end up being their daily target. That Ah Gou, in particular, used to be so timid, but now he had become a vicious dog. Chen Cheng was scared to death of him. Ah Gou had even warned him that if he failed to get Wu Tian’s forgiveness, he would get a small beating every three days and a big one every five, guaranteeing him a hospital stay every month.
Chen Cheng was genuinely terrified.
"Please, just tell them to leave me alone, to not stoop to my level. I’m begging you! From now on, whatever you need, just say the word and I’ll do anything to help," Chen Cheng said, his voice trembling with anxiety.
Wu Tian understood at once. Ah Gou and his cronies want to curry favor with me but don’t know how. So, they’re tormenting Chen Cheng to show their ’sincerity.’
It was the lunch rush, so the path to the cafeteria was crowded. Although Chen Cheng hadn’t knelt, the surrounding employees were still stunned. What was wrong with him? He was a member of upper management, so why was he acting so submissively toward Wu Tian? What on earth happened? Chen Cheng had connections within the corporation; he wasn’t someone who would bow his head so easily.
Nangong Yi and his female fans, including Bing Hong, happened to be passing by and saw the spectacle.
Nangong Yi was instantly displeased. He and Chen Cheng were close friends, having worked together at the corporation for a long time.
"Chen Cheng, what are you doing?" Nangong Yi strode forward angrily. "What did he do to you? Tell me, and I’ll make it right."
"Just go away," Chen Cheng told him.
"How can I? We’re friends! I can’t just stand by and do nothing," Nangong Yi insisted.
Bing Hong and the other female colleagues nodded in agreement.
"Our oppa is so perfect."
"It’s so rare to find someone who values friendship these days."
"He’s truly an outstanding man."
This group of squealing fangirls made Wu Tian feel nauseous. He couldn’t stand being there a moment longer. He took Liang Qingren’s hand and prepared to leave.
"Don’t go! You haven’t agreed yet!" Chen Cheng cried out, desperate to avoid another beating today.
"Tell me, what did you threaten him with?" Nangong Yi demanded, stepping in front of Wu Tian. With a large crowd of employees now gathered around watching, he felt bold. He was sure Wu Tian wouldn’t dare to hit anyone now.
"Nangong Yi, stay out of this," Chen Cheng snapped, his patience wearing thin.
"What are you afraid of? I’m here. I’ll get justice for you," Nangong Yi said, completely misreading the situation and assuming things were just as he imagined.
