Chapter 44: Chapter 44 Indispensable

Wu Tian and Xia Qian shopped until dark. Shopping with a girl is truly exhausting, Wu Tian realized. For instance, a piece of clothing that a man might find ordinary could captivate a woman for what felt like an eternity.

In the end, Wu Tian made a call to his mother before returning to Qin Yuhan’s villa. "Honey, Xia Qian had a lot of fun today, so shouldn’t I get a reward as well?" Wu Tian asked with a mischievous grin as soon as he stepped inside.

"What, you want benefits too?" On the sofa, Qin Yuhan was watching cartoons with the little one. Her voice was chilling, as sharp and bone-piercing as a winter wind.

"Could it be that you’re jealous?" Wu Tian guessed.

"Impossible." At his words, Qin Yuhan couldn’t help but clench her pearly white teeth, making them grind audibly.

The little one immediately lost interest in her cartoon. How could a cartoon possibly compare to this real-life family drama? she thought. She felt she had every right to participate. After all, what family drama would be complete without her?

With that in mind, the little one announced, "Crawly, Mommy, last night I was stargazing."

"Nonsense. You didn’t have a chance to see the stars last night," Wu Tian interjected.

Seeing Wu Tian’s rebuttal, the little one immediately looked aggrieved. Her eyes widened and her lips pouted, as if she were about to cry.

"Baby, go on," Qin Yuhan said gently. "Say whatever you want, don’t be unhappy."

The little one nodded and continued in her childlike voice, pretending to be an adult, "Last night while I was stargazing, I noticed that the Purple Star had shifted east."

She’s been watching too much TV, Wu Tian thought, speechless.

But Qin Yuhan knew she had to indulge the little one’s fantasy, so she asked, "And what does that mean?"

"Tonight is a suitable night for the bridal chamber," the little one exclaimed. "Crawly, Mommy, please give me some little sisters to play with!"

Some? To play with? Qin Yuhan realized she could never win against her own daughter. Frustrated, but unable to vent on the little one, Qin Yuhan grabbed the throw pillow from her lap and hurled it at Wu Tian. "It’s all your fault!"

Just as the pillow was about to hit him, Wu Tian reached out and effortlessly caught it. Having been in Qin Yuhan’s embrace for so long, the pillow carried her faint, seductive fragrance, which wafted straight into his nostrils.

So fragrant! Is this her natural scent?

"Tell me, where did you and she go today?" Qin Yuhan demanded.

"We went everywhere," Wu Tian smiled.

Seeing the smile playing on Wu Tian’s lips made Qin Yuhan’s heart sink. That jerk! Doesn’t he know he’s only out with Xia Qian for work? Does he really have to have fun with her? Could it be... he’s trying to hit on her? At this thought, Qin Yuhan’s fists tightened involuntarily.

The little one quietly watched this unfold and helplessly shrugged her shoulders. My Crawly... talking like that in front of Mommy... isn’t he just asking for it? Their emotional intelligence is so low. A low EQ is a fatal flaw.

Finally, Qin Yuhan spoke again. "Wu Tian, if Xia Qian looks for you in the next few days, continue to accompany her. But you must remember, it’s for work, not because you’re friends or anything."

The implication was clear: this was strictly business. He was not to give his body, his soul, and certainly not his heart. Qin Yuhan’s beautiful eyes turned severe.

"That’s difficult," Wu Tian said helplessly.

"What’s so difficult about it?"

"She’s the kind of woman people can’t help but like. You can’t help but want to be friends with her," Wu Tian said.

In Wu Tian’s mind, the statement was completely innocent, but to Qin Yuhan’s ears, it meant something else entirely.

"I don’t care. Your relationship with her has to be strictly work-related. Don’t meet outside of work," Qin Yuhan said, beginning to throw a childish tantrum.

"I can’t do that," Wu Tian refused. He wasn’t like the protagonists in some novels who, despite being powerful, were blindly obedient to the female lead. Wu Tian had his own personality. "We will be friends," he stated. "No one can stop that."

"You... You actually won’t listen to me!"

Qin Yuhan was so infuriated by Wu Tian’s words that her delicate body trembled. Her towering peaks quivered, threatening to burst free.

Watching her, Wu Tian grew worried. "Honey, don’t be so angry," he said instinctively. "Your two white rabbits are about to jump out."

With that said, Wu Tian returned to his room.

"What white rabbits?" Qin Yuhan asked, not understanding him at first.

The little one, however, seemed to understand. "Mommy, the white rabbits Crawly was talking about are *those*," she said, pointing to a certain part of Qin Yuhan’s body.

Qin Yuhan’s face instantly flushed crimson.

「That evening.」

The little one grew sleepy, and Qin Yuhan prepared to take her to bed.

"I want to sleep with Crawly!"

Frustrated, Qin Yuhan still carried the little one to Wu Tian’s room. Seeing that he was still awake, she said, "Tomorrow, you have to have a meal with me."

"Are you asking me out?" Wu Tian turned his head, looking at Qin Yuhan with some surprise. Although I knew she would accept me, mind and body, one day, I didn’t expect it to happen so soon!

"What are you thinking about? There’s a family gathering tomorrow, and my dad asked us to go together," Qin Yuhan said seriously.

"Okay," Wu Tian nodded.

Then, Qin Yuhan put the little one to bed.

「The next day.」

Qin Yuhan personally changed the little one into a new white dress, dressing her up like a little princess. The little one hopped and jumped around, clearly delighted with her new outfit.

"You can take her to kindergarten today. I’m heading to the company first," Qin Yuhan said before leaving.

Wu Tian grabbed the keys to a BMW from the garage and drove the little one to kindergarten. As for the fact that he didn’t have a driver’s license, he couldn’t care less.

So what if the traffic police found out? Wu Tian was confident they could never catch up with him.

When they arrived at the kindergarten, the little one immediately cried out, "Crawly, I can’t bear to leave you!"

"You’ll miss me that much?" Seeing this, Wu Tian was touched.

"Just kidding," the little one said, her tone shifting. "On TV, they say that when kids say this, it makes their parents not want to leave and their family love them more. I was just trying it out."

Wu Tian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He was sure of one thing, though: this daughter of his would be a real handful when she grew up. A little monster, for sure.

"Alright, Crawly’s leaving now," Wu Tian said.

"You’re really leaving?" Seeing Wu Tian turn around, the little one’s lip trembled, and she looked as if she were about to cry. In truth, she really didn’t want him to go.

Wu Tian turned back. Seeing her like this, he was at a loss for what to do.

Suddenly, a voice rang out.

"Leave her to me."
