Chapter 40: Chapter 40 Get Ready to Cry

"What does that have to do with me?" Wu Tian asked, holding his phone with a faint, mocking smile on his face.

I have to fight for my own glory. What does Nangong Yi have to do with any of it? Even if he beats that so-called God of Racing, what’s it to me, Wu Tian? Am I supposed to feel proud just because we work for the same corporation? Nangong Yi’s delusional fans are all nuts.

"You..." On the other end of the line, Bing Hong’s face flushed with anger. She found Wu Tian’s attitude unbearable. How could he be so antisocial?

Wu Tian hasn’t done anything wrong. So what if Nangong Yi won? What does his glory have to do with us? Lin Fa watched the scene unfold quietly.

Nangong Yi’s other fans, most of whom were female employees from the Qin Corporation, also drew closer. Of course, there were a few male employees who admired him as well.

"What? The Director of Logistics isn’t coming?"

"He actually hit Wei Chunhua. I guess he really has a temper."

The female employees were all displeased. They felt that since they adored Nangong Yi, everyone else should too.

Just then, Nangong Yi walked over. "What’s this? He isn’t coming?"

"That’s right," Bing Hong said, her face blushing as she gazed at Nangong Yi’s handsome features.

"Give me the phone," Nangong Yi demanded.

"Yes, Nangong Oppa," Bing Hong replied. Without even asking Lin Fa, she took his phone and handed it directly to Nangong Yi.

Nangong Yi relished the feeling of being worshipped by women. Taking the phone, he said, "Wu Tian, what’s the matter? You’re not coming to witness my moment of glory? Afraid you’ll get jealous?"

"Fine, I’ll be there." On the other end of the line, Wu Tian figured he was bored anyway and agreed. A peculiar fire, however, began to burn in his eyes.

Glory has always belonged to me, and me alone.

Qiuming Mountain was located on the outskirts of Yang City. Because it resembled a mountain from a famous anime, it had been chosen as a racing ground by the people of Yang City and its neighboring towns. The mountain road was famous for its many twists and turns, making it a favorite among thrill-seeking racers and motorsport enthusiasts.

Wu Tian looked at Xia Qian and said, "Let’s go to Qiuming Mountain. There’s an exciting race tonight. You might get to see driving on par with Schumacher."

"Bullshit," Xia Qian scoffed, unconvinced. Schumacher was one of the greatest racers of the modern era; in his sixteen-year career, he broke nearly every record. He was the undisputed God of Racing. However, Schumacher was currently in a coma. Even if he ever woke up, his legendary skills would likely be gone.

Wu Tian just smiled. "You have to believe me. Every word I say is true."

Xia Qian frowned slightly but nodded anyway, steering the Buick toward Qiuming Mountain.

Her driving skills were average, no different from a typical driver, so it took them three hours to arrive. During that time, Xia Qian had pressed Wu Tian for details about his life, especially what he had been doing during his four-year absence. She had investigated him before but, even with her resources, had found nothing about where he had been during that time.

Could he be in the military? Are his records classified and protected by the state?

Along the way, Xia Qian bought a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a disposable face mask.

When they reached Qiuming Mountain, Xia Qian remained in the car. The moment Wu Tian stepped out, Lin Fa hurried over to him. "Director, I think you should be careful. It can’t be anything good for Nangong Yi to suddenly summon you here."

Wu Tian nodded, indicating he felt the same way.

It’s like a weasel paying a New Year’s visit to a chicken... no, to a dragon. Absolutely courting death.

Meanwhile, the female employees and other fans were swarming Nangong Yi, asking for autographs. He was delighted. Noticing Wu Tian’s arrival, he decided to put on a show to remind Wu Tian of the gap between them. "Everyone," he announced, "I’m going to show you a bit of drifting."

"Awesome!" the women cheered.

Nangong Yi immediately slid into his sports car, a Porsche 911.

There was a sharp curve right ahead. He shot Wu Tian a sidelong glance before speeding off. As he hit the curve, he executed a flawless drift. The move was incredibly smooth, like flowing water. His skill was clearly on par with a top-tier professional racer. That single, small curve was enough to showcase his outstanding driving ability, proving his title as the Racing Sage of Yang City was no exaggeration.

"Our Oppa is truly amazing," Bing Hong said, her eyes shining with fascination.

"Of course! Our Oppa is the best!" the other women chimed in.

"Tonight, our Oppa will definitely defeat that God of Racing!" another declared.

The Porsche drove back, and Nangong Yi stepped out. He made a finger heart for his female fans, drawing another round of cheers.

He shot a smug, provocative glance at Wu Tian, his eyes seeming to say, See that? That’s my supreme driving skill.

In my eyes, his driving is just so-so, Wu Tian thought, unimpressed.

Just then, another sports car made its way up Qiuming Mountain. Its arrival elicited a new wave of cheers from the crowd. It was an Audi R8, but more importantly, it belonged to the God of Racing, Chen Kuohai.

The sports car stopped, and Chen Kuohai stepped out. He was a tall, imposing man, and his eyes had the sharp intensity of an owl’s.

"Chen Kuohai, today we finally settle who’s better," Nangong Yi declared.

Chen Kuohai nodded. He had earned the title of God of Racing of Yang City long ago but had since stopped racing due to family matters. He hadn’t expected a "Racing Sage" to emerge in his absence.

And today, the God of Racing and the Racing Sage were finally going to have their showdown.

"Wu Tian, I hear you’re quite the driver," Nangong Yi said suddenly, turning to him with a malicious glint in his eyes. "Why don’t you join in? The three of us can have a little race."

The crowd followed his gaze to Wu Tian, who was standing beside the Buick, and they were all stunned.

While most people on the mountain didn’t recognize Wu Tian, they certainly recognized the car. A Buick? How could a car like that possibly compare to a Porsche or an Audi, especially a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8? Having arrived in a Buick, no one could imagine him being a racer. They knew that every true racer had a special love for sports cars.

"What on earth is Nangong Yi talking about?"

"Could that guy really know how to drive?"

Many were completely baffled. Most of the people here were sports car enthusiasts themselves and looked down on a car like a Buick.

Only Bing Hong and the others who were in on it smirked, gloating at his expense. They didn’t think their Oppa was going too far; on the contrary, they felt Wu Tian was in the wrong, and their Oppa was just punishing him.

Wu Tian just chuckled to himself.

He had never told Nangong Yi he could drive. Nangong Yi was just spouting nonsense. But, I have to admit, he’s accidentally hit the nail on the head. He’ll be the one crying soon enough!
