Chapter 122: Chapter 122 Losing Face

Wang Chengxian, the deputy mayor, approached with a beaming smile. "Congratulations! I am Wang Xiancheng, the deputy mayor of Yang City. I’m very pleased to meet you, and congratulations on raising such an excellent son."

Li Lanhua was so surprised it took her a moment to compose herself before she managed to say, "Thank you, thank you."

Just then, another car with an equally impressive license plate pulled up in front of Li Lanhua’s home. The man who got out was also in a suit, his face stern. He was Sun Miao, the deputy mayor of Peng City. Peng City, as everyone knew, was the most developed city in Southern Province, and it was home to the headquarters of QQ.

Sun Miao had also received news that the person valued by the Kuangte Family lived on this street. Hoping this person would establish their company in Peng City, he had made a special trip.

"You’ve raised an outstanding son for our nation. Congratulations. I am Sun Miao, the deputy mayor of Peng City. It’s a pleasure to meet you."

Wang Chengxian snorted. He hadn’t expected Sun Miao to show up and try to poach his talent.

Li Lanhua felt a bit dazed, never having imagined her son had achieved such prominence. The Kuangte Family hadn’t even made contact yet, but the deputy mayors of the two most powerful cities in the South had already come knocking at her door.

At this moment, Hua Biehe walked up.

Wang Chengxian looked him over and asked, "Are you the one favored by the Kuangte Family?"

Hua Biehe nodded indifferently.

Wang Chengxian smiled and got straight to the point. "I hope you’ll establish your company in Yang City in the future. Yang City is your home, after all. Of course, if you set up your company here, we will certainly provide you with some conveniences."

Not to be outdone, Sun Miao countered, "I think you should come to my Peng City instead. We have QQ, and we will also provide you with conveniences, including official funding."

Everyone was astonished. They hadn’t expected Hua Biehe to command such influence before he had even founded a company.

Neighbors and a few passersby gathered to watch the spectacle and see what all the fuss was about. After all, it wasn’t every day you got to see a high-ranking deputy mayor in person.

Li Lanhua beamed. The happiness was so sudden it was overwhelming. She felt honored and proud, and her vanity was instantly and completely satisfied.

When Murong Yezi picked up the little one from kindergarten that day, she couldn’t help but notice the commotion at Li Lanhua’s house.

"Nana, Nana, what’s going on?" the little one in Murong Yezi’s arms asked, still adorably calling her grandma "Nana."

"Because an uncle from this grandma’s family is very impressive," Murong Yezi said with a neutral expression.

"Is he as impressive as my papa?" the little one suddenly asked.

Before Murong Yezi could reply, Li Lanhua, having noticed her, laughed. "Your papa is certainly not as impressive as my son."

"No! My papa is the most impressive!" the little one protested, unhappy. Her big eyes had also fallen on Hua Biehe, and with a child’s keen intuition, she felt this man wasn’t as impressive as her papa.

Murong Yezi didn’t say anything more. She came from a family of scholars; ’Murong’ was not a common surname. She no longer wanted to dwell on her family’s past and had no desire to argue with Li Lanhua, so she simply carried the little one back home.

Seeing this, Li Lanhua couldn’t help but snort.

She and Hua Biehe’s father were divorced, and there was a reason for it. During their marriage, she had fallen for another man—Murong Yezi’s husband, a brilliant and valiant man. Li Lanhua had tried to seduce him, but he never took the bait. Instead, her own husband discovered the affair, which led to their divorce. Because of this, Li Lanhua had always hated Murong Yezi, convinced that everything was someone else’s fault.

Now, Li Lanhua smiled at her guests. "Distinguished guests, please don’t just stand out here. Come inside and have a seat."

"Yes, please, come in and sit down," Hua Biehe added with a smile.

These were two deputy mayors, and not from just any city. Hua Biehe knew he had to host them carefully to pave the way for his future.

"Alright then, I won’t stand on ceremony," said Wang Chengxian.

"Nor will I," added Sun Miao, both speaking at the same time.

Just then, a Buick drove past. A Buick itself wasn’t noteworthy, but its license plate certainly was. This Buick belonged to Xiao Tianzan.

He had come looking for Wu Tian, only to find the road blocked. Seeing that Wang Chengxian and Sun Miao were there, he stopped the car and rolled down the window. "What are you two doing here?"

"Governor Xiao," Wang Chengxian and Sun Miao greeted him at once.

Li Lanhua, Hua Biehe, and all the guests were stunned.

The Governor of Southern Province himself is here? This was a huge deal.

Li Lanhua was overjoyed. Oh my goodness, my son has so much clout! Even the legendary Admiral of the Nine Gates has come!

She hurriedly nudged Hua Biehe. "Silly boy, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and greet him!"

"Yes, yes, of course," Hua Biehe stammered, snapping out of his daze with a look of pure joy.

Hua Biehe, Wang Chengxian, and Sun Miao quickly approached the car. Wang Chengxian smiled. "Governor, your visit to my Yang City is truly an honor."

Sun Miao also bowed slightly, smiling eagerly. "Governor, if you have time, I hope you’ll visit my Peng City as well. I promise it won’t disappoint you."

"We’ll talk about that when I have time," Xiao Tianzan said impartially. "But first, you must tell me why you are here today. Are you meeting privately to form cliques for personal gain?"

"No, no, not at all!" Wang Chengxian hurriedly shook his head.

Sun Miao quickly added, "We came here hoping that Hua Biehe would establish a company in one of our cities. We promise not to hold any more private meetings, Governor. Please forgive us."

Unless it was for official business, Xiao Tianzan did not approve of officials meeting privately. But now, hearing Sun Miao’s explanation, he frowned deeply.

Hua Biehe? Who is that?

Hua Biehe stepped forward. "Hello, Governor. Please don’t blame them. They only came because I received an S-rank evaluation and caught the attention of the Kuangte Family."

Xiao Tianzan was stunned. What? The person the Kuangte Family is interested in is Wu Tian. With his relationship with Tellam, he had known this all along. What does this have to do with this Hua Biehe?

He scanned the crowd. "Are all these people here to celebrate someone being noticed by the Kuangte Family?"

"Yes," Hua Biehe said with a proud smile.

"Then why don’t I see Wu Tian? Where is he?" Xiao Tianzan asked, looking around. Not seeing Wu Tian frustrated him.

Wu Tian? Hua Biehe froze.

Li Lanhua stepped forward. "What does this have to do with Wu Tian?"

Xiao Tianzan’s brows knitted as he watched everyone fawning over Li Lanhua. "You mean you have no connection to Wu Tian?"

"Of course I don’t! I am Hua Biehe’s mother," Li Lanhua declared, her voice swelling with pride as she said her son’s name.

Xiao Tianzan’s expression turned to ice. He yelled, "Then what are you celebrating? You’ve blocked the entire street! Let me tell you, your son is not the person valued by the Kuangte Family."

Wang Chengxian and Sun Miao were dumbfounded.

Hua Biehe isn’t the one they value? Doesn’t that mean we two deputy mayors have made complete fools of ourselves?

"Would you please get your facts straight?" Wang Chengxian snapped, turning on them furiously. "What are you even celebrating? You’re causing a traffic jam for nothing!"

"So the person valued by the Kuangte Family isn’t you," Sun Miao barked. "Then why am I wasting my breath on you?"

Li Lanhua and Hua Biehe were speechless, feeling as if their world had just collapsed.
