Chapter 81: Chapter 81: I’d Like to See What Tricks She Can Pull!

Ashley Grant ladled a bowl of congee and set it in front of her, her expression still sour. "You nearly died on the operating table. What makes you think you can eat rich food right now?"

After speaking, she sneered. "Just what you’d expect from a doctor. So tough, even when you’re at death’s door. You bounce back from this faster than anyone, making us look like we’re overreacting."

"Miss Grant, please don’t be angry, alright? It’s my fault. All my fault. I shouldn’t have ignored everyone’s good intentions, and I shouldn’t have been so careless with my own health. Seeing as I’m so sincerely admitting my mistake, please be lenient and just let me eat first, okay?"

Ashley Grant snorted but passed her the spoon.

The mood during the meal was surprisingly warm. Afterward, Ashley Grant briefly recounted the events of that day.

Annabelle Linton’s expression was blank. She just gave a noncommittal "mm."

Ashley Grant spoke deliberately, testing the waters. "Annabelle, that day... I slapped Vivian Yates three times in front of everyone. I slapped her so hard her face swelled up, and my sister didn’t say a word. She didn’t even look at her. She just scooped you up and brought you to the hospital without a moment’s hesitation, and she even gave you her blood. She’s been the one watching over you at night all this time. It looks like she’s finally realizing your worth..."

Annabelle Linton remained expressionless, like an outsider to her own story. She just gave another noncommittal "mm," clearly unconcerned.

Ashley Grant pursed her lips and wisely held her tongue.

’Leona, I’ve done all I can for you,’ she thought. ’The rest is up to fate...’

Other than a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Grant to check on her, she had no other visitors that day.

Annabelle Linton was relieved; it seemed Ryan didn’t know what had happened.

That evening, Ashley Grant stayed by her side, refusing to go home. Annabelle Linton tried to send her away, but she insisted on staying.

In the end, they had to set up another bed in the hospital room.

Leona Grant, however, didn’t appear all day. What Annabelle Linton didn’t know was that in the very same hospital, Vivian Yates had attempted suicide by slitting her wrists and had yet to regain consciousness.

...

The night passed. As the sun slowly rose, a new day began.

The flowers on the bedside table had been replaced with beautiful daisies, simple and refreshingly elegant.

Annabelle Linton planned to stay in the hospital for two more days. That would leave her three days to handle business at the Linton Group. Once that was all settled, she would deal with the divorce.

The divorce was non-negotiable. The sooner she dealt with it, the better, before any new complications could arise.

After breakfast, Ashley Grant went out to buy some toiletries for Annabelle, leaving her alone in the room to read.

After a while, Ashley Grant still wasn’t back, and the IV bag was nearly empty. Annabelle pressed the call button, but no one came.

The nurse at the station had probably stepped away, and the next shift hadn’t arrived yet. Seeing that the drip was about to finish, Annabelle had no choice but to pull out the needle and go get the next bag herself.

The infusion supply room was on the second floor. The wide corridor was silent; even when the floor was full, it was always this quiet.

Annabelle Linton was long accustomed to such a cold, clinical environment. Carrying the new IV bag, she returned to the top VIP floor. Just as she stepped out of the elevator, she heard a familiar voice from around the corner—

"To pull such a low-life stunt, she’s really putting on a show. So pitiful and pathetic, able to make anyone feel sorry for her. Why didn’t she just die? She’s only doing this to get my sister’s sympathy, isn’t she? I want you to watch that bitch twenty-four seven. Let’s see what other tricks she has up her sleeve!"

Ashley Grant sneered and hung up. When she turned, she came face-to-face with Annabelle Linton’s ice-cold eyes.
