Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 76: You Must Divorce Me Today
Patrick Grant’s tone made it sound like they were just a young couple having a spat; he clearly wasn’t taking it seriously.
’If he isn’t concerned, doesn’t that mean I fell down the stairs for nothing?’
"Grandpa! Grandpa, don’t go! I’m not finished talking!"
Patrick Grant just smiled and waved, heading out the door as if he hadn’t heard a thing.
Seeing that Grandpa had no intention of getting involved, Annabelle Linton whipped her head around to glare at Leona Grant.
The movement was so fast it even startled him.
Her icy eyes were filled with resentment and fury, making him feel a twinge of guilt.
Furious, Annabelle Linton shot to her feet. "Leona Grant, we had an agreement! How can you go back on your word?!"
"Plans change. We didn’t consider this possibility back then. I can’t just ignore the Grant family’s interests because you want a divorce, can I?" Leona Grant said with a nonchalant shrug.
"So you’re backing out?"
Leona Grant flopped onto the sofa, looking for all the world like a scoundrel. "We have to handle this on a case-by-case basis. If you agree to the terms I just mentioned, we’ll get a divorce."
"What makes you think I’d ever agree to such an unfair deal? No way! You are divorcing me today. Let’s go, to the Civil Affairs Bureau, now!" Annabelle Linton grabbed him, completely ignoring the two elders still in the room.
"You didn’t seem to consider my feelings when you insisted on marrying me. I’m not going."
"Are you going or not?"
"I. Am. Not. Going."
Seeing him act like such a shameless rogue, a sharp pain shot through Annabelle Linton’s head. She couldn’t catch her breath, and everything went black as she fainted.
Leona Grant saw her start to collapse and, with lightning-fast reflexes, caught her.
His nonchalant demeanor vanished in an instant. Looking at her pale face and the scrapes on her body, a flicker of compassion crossed his eyes.
’This damn woman,’ he thought. ’Even if she’s in a rush to divorce me, did she really have to check out of the hospital the moment she woke up?’
’She fell from so high up... The doctor said if she had landed on her back, she could have been paralyzed or ended up in a coma for life. Why does she have to be so damn stubborn?’
’A coma...’
Leona Grant suddenly remembered all the foolish things she had done for him in the past... how she had even spent a year in a vegetative state. A pang of anguish shot through his heart.
His expression cold, he swept her up into his arms and headed for the door.
Roxanne Jennings watched Leona Grant suddenly scoop Annabelle Linton into his arms and clicked her tongue in surprise.
’Isn’t my son a germaphobe?’
’He won’t even shake people’s hands, yet he’s held Annabelle Linton twice now.’
Roxanne Jennings turned to Nathan Grant beside her and asked conspiratorially, "Honey, do you think those two will actually get a divorce?"
Nathan Grant calmly took a sip of tea. "They won’t."
"What makes you so sure?"
Nathan Grant scoffed. "Since when has he ever cared so much about the Grant family’s interests?"
Roxanne Jennings was speechless.
’That brat,’ she thought. ’If he doesn’t want a divorce, he should just say so. Why does he have to resort to these roundabout tactics?’
’Making the poor girl faint from anger... Some tactic that is.’
...
After all, she had fallen from quite a height. While her injuries weren’t life-threatening, they were still quite serious.
The doctor re-dressed Annabelle Linton’s wounds. The worst were the cuts on her forehead and knee, which wouldn’t stop bleeding.
Leona Grant looked at the countless cuts and scrapes, large and small, covering Annabelle Linton’s body, and his cool eyes darkened slightly.
’For a perfectionist like him, leaving even the smallest blemish—whether on her face or anywhere else—was intolerable.’
’Especially when he was the one who had caused this imperfection. He couldn’t let it happen!’
Leona Grant dismissed all the doctors and began to treat her wounds himself.
