Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 52: She Actually Wasn’t as Terrible as He Imagined
But she didn’t show it. Seeing that he was busy, she quickly set the food on the table and called him over to eat.
He was genuinely hungry, so he didn’t refuse and went over to eat.
A sumptuous spread of dishes was laid out on the table, complete with soup. Everything was his favorite.
He picked up his chopsticks and began to eat as if it were his due. He even called Vivian Yates over to join him. Vivian then invited Annabelle to eat as well, but Annabelle just shook her head and declined.
And so, he went back to ignoring her completely, not even offering a single word of thanks.
But she was still delighted. Seeing him eat the food she had made, she couldn’t keep the smile from her face.
He looked up and noticed the bandages on her hands—three of them, spread across both hands. The cuts looked deep; blood had already seeped through the adhesive strips.
He suddenly remembered that half an hour ago, his assistant, Chase, had mentioned his wife called to ask how he was doing.
The drive from home to the office was twenty-five minutes, yet she had managed to cook this meal and bring it to him in just forty minutes. And it tasted great.
’Cooking a meal in fifteen minutes... Did she cut her hands because she was rushing?’
’Was she in such a hurry because she was afraid I was starving?’
He suddenly felt a pang of pity. Just as he was about to ask her if she had eaten, he heard Vivian Yates cry out in alarm.
A red rash was breaking out all over Vivian Yates’s face, and it was spreading rapidly.
Vivian had been perfectly fine a moment ago, but the rash appeared the instant she took a sip of soup. He immediately concluded that Annabelle must have put something in it.
He slammed his chopsticks down on the table, his sharp gaze fixed on her as he demanded, "What did you do to her?!"
Annabelle had also noticed the rash spreading on Vivian’s face and explained in a panic, "I didn’t put anything in it! You like tomato and egg soup, so that’s what I made for you. I don’t know why Vivian is..."
Before she could finish, she covered her mouth in shock, as if she had just realized something.
Tears of discomfort streamed down Vivian’s face as she shrieked, "Annabelle, why would you make this? I’m allergic to eggs!"
Panicked tears streamed down Annabelle Linton’s face as well. Forgetting any explanation, she rushed to Vivian’s side. "Vivian... are you okay? I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t! Just hang in there, let me take you to the hospital, okay?"
"Enough!" he roared, angrily shoving her away. He swept all the food from the table onto the floor. That flicker of pity he’d felt moments ago had now transformed into pure rage, convinced she had intentionally caused Vivian’s allergic reaction.
"I knew you were up to no good, Annabelle Linton! You knew perfectly well that Vivian is allergic to eggs, yet you still made this. I never imagined you could be so vicious!"
Annabelle Linton froze, stumbling to the floor. Tears streamed down her face as she repeated over and over, "I didn’t mean to... I didn’t mean to..."
’It clearly wasn’t her fault, yet she blamed herself so much. What a foolish woman.’
Leona Grant was now realizing that he had simply been biased against Annabelle Linton. In reality, she wasn’t as horrible as he had made her out to be.
’Sure, she always seemed to be picking on Vivian Yates, but it was just petty squabbles born of jealousy. Thinking back, she had never actually caused Vivian any real harm.’
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Vivian Yates was taken to the hospital.
Annabelle Linton tried to go with them, but he angrily told her to get lost.
Vivian had only taken a single sip, so after an injection and some medication, she was fine.
It was only then that he realized he had been far too harsh with Annabelle Linton.
’Even if she knew Vivian was allergic to eggs, she had no idea Vivian would be at the office. She made that soup because it was my favorite—she had made it just for me.’
