Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 51: Unfortunately, It’s Too Late Even If He Sees It
’Once the divorce is final, I’ll have nothing to do with them anymore. This meal is just to bring things to a close and repay their kindness.’
"Back when I was working at the hospital, I had countless days where I’d perform surgeries for three days straight without eating or drinking. This is nothing. Mom, Ashley, you just got back today. Let me show you what I can do and cook a proper welcome-home meal for you."
Annabelle Linton turned, picked up a knife, and started chopping vegetables, paying no mind to the reactions of those behind her.
The rhythmic, even sound of chopping filled the kitchen. Mrs. Grant watched her daughter-in-law, looking so at home, and grew fonder with each passing moment.
"Ashley, look how much your sister-in-law adores you. When you’re successful in the future, you can’t forget her, understand?"
"Of course!"
With the non-cooks out of the kitchen, the others stopped trying to protest and began to help prepare the meal.
Annabelle Linton was in charge of the stir-frying while the others assisted her, chopping and washing vegetables and preparing the other ingredients.
The Grant family had a dedicated cook for their three daily meals. As Patrick Grant was the only one living in the house, a meal could easily be prepared by just three people in the kitchen.
But there were more people today, and when the household staff saw Annabelle Linton cooking herself, they all wanted to get on her good side.
"Young Madam, I’ll wash this!"
"Young Madam, leave that be! I’ll do it!"
The kitchen was packed with people today. From the outside, the atmosphere was lively and bustling.
Before long, the delicious aroma of cooking filled the entire villa.
Annabelle Linton observed the family’s attitude toward her, a bittersweet feeling welling up inside. The difference was like night and day; it would be a lie to say she felt nothing. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Young Madam, if only I had a daughter-in-law like you. My eldest son’s wife is greedy and ambitious, always pushing my son to split the family inheritance. Our house is in chaos every single day.
My second daughter-in-law is too cunning. She’s incredibly respectful when my second son is around, but the moment he leaves, she turns cold and completely neglects me. The Grant Family is truly blessed to have married such a wonderful Young Madam like you." Madam Chase’s praise was sincere.
Annabelle Linton stir-fried the turbot in the wok, offering a modest reply. "Madam Chase, you’re exaggerating. I’m just doing what’s expected of me."
Annabelle Linton was the type who seemed quiet. She wasn’t a big talker, yet she didn’t come across as cold. She was a woman with an elegance and detachment that seemed ingrained in her very being.
Madam Chase pressed her lips together. She had seen exactly what kind of woman Annabelle Linton was over the years. She had watched Leona Grant grow up, and she didn’t want to see him lose such a wonderful woman.
"Young Madam, you’re so good. The Young Master will see your worth eventually."
’Too bad that even if he did, it would be too late.’
Annabelle Linton just smiled without saying a word.
Leona Grant came to the refrigerator for a drink and saw Annabelle Linton’s busy figure.
The soft light fell on her slender waist, casting a faint glow that gave her an added touch of gentle beauty.
Watching her, Leona Grant was suddenly reminded of something that had happened before.
It was last year, he thought. The company had been in the middle of negotiating a massive project.
He had been working nonstop on the flight back from an overseas business trip. He’d rushed straight to the office right after landing and hadn’t had time to eat, even by noon the next day.
He was famished but couldn’t afford to take a break. Annabelle Linton had heard from Chase that he was swamped and hadn’t eaten, so she’d cooked a meal and brought it to him at the office.
As it happened, Vivian Yates was also there that day, but she hadn’t brought him any food, nor did she even know he hadn’t eaten.
When Annabelle Linton arrived with the food and saw the two of them together, he saw a distinct flicker of sorrow in her eyes.
