Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 154: I’ll Collect Your Corpse for You, Go for It
She couldn’t be bothered to waste time on outsiders like Leona Grant.
So, she decided to start work tomorrow.
Annabelle Linton did just as Leona Grant wanted and made herself scarce.
She was gone for two weeks, staying in the hospital the entire time.
She would occasionally show her face at home, but only when Leona Grant wasn’t around.
’Did Leona think she was the only one who could use working overtime as an excuse to stay away?’
The Grant family was well aware of the cold war between Annabelle Linton and Leona Grant.
But there was nothing they could do.
Besides, it wasn’t as if anyone was to blame, was it?
...
The night was as cool as water. The SEVEN Bar was a world of hedonism and luxury.
The flashing lights were bright enough to blind a normal person’s 24-karat, pure-titanium-alloy dog eyes!
Writhing bodies, ear-splitting music, and young men and women in their finest, dancing with wild abandon. The air was thick with hormones.
It was a night destined for drama, a testament to the bar’s opulence.
"Ashley! Ashley, wake up! Something terrible has happened! It’s an emergency! Your brother’s people are here! Get up!" Lucy Locke yelled anxiously, shaking Ashley Grant, who was dead to the world on the sofa.
Ashley Grant slapped Lucy’s hand away, rolled over, and mumbled, "Piss off... Don’t be so loud, let me sleep... Zzz..."
Lucy Locke felt her heart leap into her throat. "Seriously, Your Highness, wake up! I heard from my uncle that your brother found out you’ve been skipping class!
He sent a huge crew to drag you back! If you get caught this time, being grounded for a month will be getting off easy! You can probably kiss this whole world of booze and nightlife goodbye for the rest of your life! Get up!"
BOOM—
That jolted Ashley right awake. She leaped to her feet, grabbed Lucy’s shoulders, and shook her frantically. "What the fuck did you just say? My brother’s here?!"
Lucy, dizzy from being shaken silly, slapped her hands away. "Yes! They’re here, and there’s a ton of them! They said they won’t leave until they’ve caught you!"
Her sleepiness completely gone, Ashley ran a hand through her messy hair and cracked open the door to peek out. Sure enough, she saw a large group of men searching the place.
’It’s his men! It’s really his men!’
’Shit, what do I do? What do I do?!’
’She’d only been skipping class for three days! She had people doing her homework, answering for her during roll call, and even covering her cleaning duties.’
’She’d bribed all of them: the class monitor, the student reps, the academic advisor. She hadn’t missed a single one! She thought the plan was foolproof; all she had to do was show up to sign in and out. Who was the goddamn traitor?!’
’Taking my money and then ratting me out... The absolute nerve!’
’If I make it out of this alive, I’m going to fucking murder that backstabbing son of a bitch!’
"AHHHH! FUCK, FUCK! Think of something! Help me think of something, quick! I’m too young to die! I’m full of hopes and dreams for this world! You can’t do this to me! You can’t! Sika Deer, if you wanna help, then fucking help me think of a way out of this!"
"Don’t call me Sika Deer!" Lucy snapped out of her daze and calmly handed Ashley a backpack. "There’s a disguise in the bag. You know what to do. The second you get out of here, run like hell and don’t ever look back!
I already called your second brother to pick you up out back. Go, my friend!"
Ashley felt completely and utterly screwed. Hearing this, she was about to have a meltdown. "Isn’t there a more reliable plan?! My brother’s guys are all ex-special forces! I can’t outrun them! If they catch me, I’m dead! Like, horribly, painfully dead!"
"Go forth, my sister, and be brave! Victory is just ahead! The dawn is about to break! Never, ever give up hope! It’s do or die! If you fail, I’ll be there to collect your body. Go get ’em, tiger!"
