Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Sheila Rhodes

"Join you?"

Kurt Garrison didn’t agree right away.

He was a veteran, and in the apocalypse, he would always lend a helping hand to survivors in distress.

But with these people before him, he couldn’t help but hesitate.

"Her name is Zoe Morgan,

and Mason Morgan is her dad."

Seeing Kurt Garrison hesitate, the girl shot a look at her companion.

The other girl saw the signal and quickly spoke up.

"Who’s Mason Morgan?"

Kurt Garrison frowned.

"You don’t even know who Mason Morgan is?"

The girl’s expression immediately turned awkward.

"Mason Morgan, the former deputy mayor of City J?"

Chase Gallagher asked as he walked over to check on the situation.

"Yes, yes!

Mason Morgan is my dad. You know my father?"

Zoe Morgan asked excitedly.

"I don’t."

Chase Gallagher replied.

"Dude, you even know that?

Leave it to you."

Holden Shaw said as he followed behind him.

After all, Chase Gallagher wasn’t even from City J.

And yet he, a City J native, had no idea who Mason Morgan was.

Seeing Chase and Holden approach, Kurt Garrison, Eric Stone, and the others quickly got out of their vehicles.

They also took the opportunity to get the gist of the situation with this group of young men and women.

It turned out that Zoe Morgan’s group had seen what happened here last night.

The sky had been filled with flames.

They figured there had to be many powerful Superpower Users here.

So, they had decided to seek refuge with them.

"You want to follow us to City D?"

Eric Stone asked after hearing them out.

"There are so many of you.

Taking us along wouldn’t be a big deal, right?"

Seeing Zoe Morgan’s eyes redden, a tall boy quickly retorted.

"How is it not a big deal?

If we really take you with us, you aren’t planning on eating our supplies, are you?"

Yara Garcia also got out of her vehicle.

After what happened with James Fletcher, they were no longer willing to help just anyone.

After all, they had just paid a terrible price.

"We really don’t have many supplies left,

but once I get to City D and find my dad,

I’ll have him pay you back."

Zoe Morgan said.

"That won’t be necessary.

We don’t even have enough supplies for our own people."

Yara Garcia said.

Eric Stone knew they had some empty seats in their vehicles, but he didn’t speak up either.

"How can you be like this..."

The girl who had spoken up for Zoe Morgan earlier seemed to find it hard to believe that Eric Stone’s group would refuse.

"Fine, we won’t take your supplies.

We can at least ride in your vehicles, right?

I want to ride in that one." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Zoe Morgan pointed to a vehicle right in the middle of several large buses.

"What did you say?"

Yara Garcia immediately shot her an "Are you serious?" look.

That was the vehicle they had specially prepared for Nina Jacobs to show their gratitude.

It was a brand-new armored vehicle, both safe and comfortable.

And it was spacious, too.

The girl certainly had good taste, just not a lot of sense.

"If you want to follow us, fine.

But you’re not getting a ride or any supplies."

Eric Stone’s expression turned cold as well.

"Let’s go. Time to get back on the road."

Kurt Garrison said to Chase Gallagher.

Chase Gallagher nodded, then turned and walked back to the vehicle with Holden Shaw.

Seeing everyone get back in their vehicles without paying them any more attention, the group had no choice but to give up.

"Just drive, geez."

Zoe Morgan opened the car door and got in.

Inside was the driver, a girl with glasses.

When the others got out earlier, she was the only one left in the car.

A slap landed on the back of the girl’s head.

"Are you happy seeing us like this?

You’re just like them, so infuriating!"

Furious, Zoe Morgan habitually vented her anger on the girl with glasses.

The girl didn’t say a word.

She just silently pulled the car over to the side of the road.

"At least they’re heading to City D.

Zoe, you’re still amazing. These people all look like they can kill zombies.

Let’s just follow them.

When we run into zombies, we’ll just let them take the lead."

Fifi Stone’s words made Zoe Morgan feel much better.

She sneered:

"There was such a huge commotion last night, yet so many of them survived.

There must be a lot of experts in that group.

It’s normal for them to be wary of us, though.

Once we slowly gain their trust on the road,

sooner or later, they’ll have to take us in."

"Totally. That vehicle looks amazing.

If everyone inside it died, wouldn’t the vehicle be ours?"

After another girl said this, everyone in the car laughed, except for the driver.

"..."

After Chase Gallagher got out of the car, Nina Jacobs had activated "Five Senses Enhancement."

And at that moment, their vehicle happened to be passing right by the car waiting on the roadside.

It was just close enough for her to overhear their conversation.

She just hadn’t expected to overhear someone cursing everyone in her vehicle to die.

"But does Sheila Rhodes even know how to drive that kind of vehicle?

It looks pretty big."

"Hey, Sheila Rhodes, I’m talking to you.

Can you drive that thing or not?"

Another slap landed as Zoe Morgan asked rudely.

"I... can."

The girl answered in a small voice.

"Aren’t you from some village out of town?

You’ve probably never driven a vehicle like that, have you?

No, you’ve probably never even seen one before.

My dad used to ride in and drive cars like that all the time."

Zoe Morgan said.

"Don’t be sad, Zoe. Once we get to City D,

we’ll definitely find your dad."

The boy said comfortingly, pulling her into his arms.

’Sheila Rhodes?’

Nina Jacobs glanced back at their car.

"They’re all kids from J High.

I can’t believe such a good school could produce people like that."

Holden Shaw said mockingly, seeing Nina Jacobs look at the car behind them.

"Is that school really good?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

"Of course it is! It’s one of the top-ranked schools in the country.

A lot of wealthy businesspeople from other cities specifically send their kids there to study."

Pascal Paige answered.

Many of the students who could get into that school were the children of privilege.

"I see."

Nina Jacobs also noticed that the car was indeed following behind their convoy.

’Sheila Rhodes.’

’This name isn’t familiar to me.’

’I’ve never even met this person.’

’Not even in my past life.’

’And yet, the name still rang a bell.’

’Because in my past life, someone asked me to protect this person if I ever found her.’

Nina Jacobs didn’t make such promises lightly.

But the person who asked was Warren Rhodes.

The commander-in-chief who was willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good.

He was also the only person she had tried to contact before the apocalypse.

Warren Rhodes had told her that his granddaughter, who was attending high school out of town, was named Sheila Rhodes.

He’d said she bore some resemblance to Nina.

He had even given her a photo.

Now, in her second life, her memory of the photo was hazy.

But the name itself still held a spark of memory.

’Could it be her?’

Nina Jacobs tried to keep using "Five Senses Enhancement" to listen to the conversation in the car behind them.

But it was mostly just the meaningless chatter of Zoe Morgan and her friends.

Nina Jacobs decided to observe for a while longer.

If that really was Warren Rhodes’s granddaughter, then no matter what kind of person she was, Nina had to save her for his sake.

Lockwood Squad was very familiar with the surrounding routes.

Nina Jacobs didn’t need to use the system map again.

After clearing a few waves of zombies on the road,

Eric Stone ordered everyone to stop and rest in a patch of wasteland for half an hour.

Nina Jacobs noticed that someone from the other car finally got out.

But it didn’t seem to be the driver, Sheila Rhodes.
