Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 151: I Have No Relationship with Him
He knew Annabelle had a fiancé. She had once been madly in love with the man, and she always got this agitated whenever he was mentioned.
A pang of pain shot through Aaron Wyatt’s heart. "He didn’t say much," he said in a low voice. "Just asked where you were, and I told him the truth."
Annabelle Linton breathed a sigh of relief at his words. "Oh."
She nonchalantly resumed picking at her food, trying to calm her frantic pulse.
’Thank goodness... Leona Grant didn’t say anything more.’
She knew exactly who Aaron meant by "he."
’Who else could that foul-mouthed man be but Leona Grant?’
Her marriage to Leona Grant was once the stuff of her dreams, but now it was a humiliation she couldn’t even bring herself to mention.
It was bad enough that Aaron had witnessed her past suffering.
From now on, she didn’t want him to see her in such a sorry state ever again.
Aaron watched Annabelle’s nonchalant expression, utterly astonished.
’But I told him the truth...’
’And the truth was that Annabelle had just been in the shower.’
’A woman showering at a man’s house... How that would set tongues wagging...’
’Did Annabelle just not realize the implication?’
Aaron Wyatt pressed his lips together and repeated, testing the waters, "When he asked where you were, I told him you were in the shower."
"Mm," Annabelle replied without even looking up.
Aaron was even more baffled. ’This can’t be right.’
’How can Annabelle be so calm?’
A flicker of hope ignited in Aaron’s heart. He asked, again testing the waters, "You and him..."
"We have nothing to do with each other." Annabelle cut him off before he could finish.
Annabelle Linton set down her chopsticks. Her gaze, cool and distant, drifted out the window. "I may have been madly in love with him before," she said faintly, "but I feel nothing for him now. There’s nothing between us. From now on, he’s just a stranger to me. Don’t bring him up. It sours my mood."
Annabelle’s eyes were filled with indifference, resolve, coldness, and certainty.
This wasn’t a fit of pique.
Hearing this, Aaron couldn’t stop the corners of his lips from turning up. Suddenly, the meal tasted exceptionally delicious.
’This is great. Annabelle finally has no feelings for him.’
’Does that mean... I have a chance?’
...
Annabelle Linton didn’t go home that night, staying instead at Aaron Wyatt’s apartment.
His apartment was large, with several spare rooms, so there was more than enough space for her.
Besides, they had been roommates once, so it wasn’t inconvenient or inappropriate.
That evening, the two of them talked for a long time. Annabelle told him about her life over the past three years, even about the Linton Family’s company being acquired, but she never mentioned Leona Grant.
’In her mind, Leona Grant wasn’t worth mentioning.’
’He didn’t love her, and she no longer loved him. Since they couldn’t get a divorce, they might as well live as strangers.’
’There was no need for them to interfere in each other’s lives.’
...
This was Aaron Wyatt’s first time in Celestia.
It wasn’t that he had never visited before, but those trips had always been rushed. This was, for all intents and purposes, his first proper visit.
The next day, Annabelle took Aaron to see the sights.
She took him to numerous historical sites, to the mall and supermarket for daily necessities, and taught him the basics of life in Celestia.
For example, how to hail a cab, how to ride the subway, and the function of the local police stations.
The way of life in Albion was completely different from that in Celestia, so there was a lot Aaron needed to learn.
That afternoon, Annabelle Linton received a phone call from Roxanne Jennings.
Roxanne sounded frantic over the phone. She said Leona Grant had been in a car accident and told Annabelle to hurry to the hospital.
