Relentless Pursuit After Divorce-Chapter 1949: Summer Hall Side Story (151)
"Let your older brother handle his own business. He’s not young anymore, yet still relies on others even to find a wife, what a joke."
Helen: "..."
She believed her brother was indeed her mother’s biological child.
"There’s something else I need to discuss with you."
"What is it?"
"Recently, I talked it over with your dad and we’re planning to throw a formal party on your birthday, so that our family and those connected to the Smith Family will officially know your identity."
She paused as she said this, glanced at Helen, and then continued:
"However, we’re worried it might bring you unnecessary trouble, so we wanted to get your opinion."
Helen was taken aback for a moment. She’s never seen a pig get slaughtered, but she’s seen pigs run; what they call a family recognition event in a wealthy family isn’t just a simple formality like in an ordinary family.
The so-called party likely wouldn’t just be a casual gathering of relatives for a meal.
The scale would be unimaginably grand.
She wasn’t too fond of being in the spotlight like this. Being recognized as the eldest daughter of the Smith Family brought many conveniences, but also quite a few headaches.
However, seeing Evelyn’s expectant look, she couldn’t bring herself to say the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue.
"Our Smith Family’s eldest daughter should be treated with respect whenever she goes out. I don’t want people like your snobby mother-in-law looking down on you."
Helen was silent for a moment and finally nodded in agreement.
"Alright, I have no objections. I’ll go along with whatever you all decide."
Seeing her consent, Evelyn’s face lit up with joy, and naturally, Helen didn’t want to disappoint her.
She could see that no matter how much she comforted her parents, the two of them still felt they owed her too much due to their negligence over the past thirty years.
If this could put their minds at ease, then going along with their plan seemed worthwhile.
Moreover, though being the Smith Family’s eldest daughter might indeed bring her some hassle, the benefits were certainly greater.
To say nothing of the fact, once people in the business circle knew she was Charles Smith’s daughter and Edward Smith’s sister, her firm’s business would likely become even more successful.
"Then let’s schedule it for your birthday next month; leave everything to mom, you don’t have to worry about a thing."
"Okay."
Having spent the whole day at the Smith Family, Harry Hall was skilled at winning the favor of elders, if he put his mind to it.
Charles Smith had never had such an enjoyable time, pulling Harry along to play chess and golf.
Even in casual conversations, the two found they shared similar interests and perspectives on many topics.
To the point where Charles said bluntly that both Edward and Thomas couldn’t compare to Harry as a son-in-law.
Edward didn’t mind it much, but Thomas, already full of animosity toward Harry because of Helen, was naturally displeased hearing Charles praise Harry so highly.
At dinner, everyone in the family was in good spirits, except for Thomas, who wore a sullen expression like everyone owed him billions.
But no one in the Smith Family, including Helen and her husband, paid him any mind, treating him like air, which only fueled Thomas’s frustration.
After returning to the Hall Family, Helen, being a dutiful sister, showed some concern over her older brother’s marital prospects by calling Elly Campbell.
After figuring out the whole story, Helen sat on the sofa in silence for a long time.
