Relentless Pursuit After Divorce-Chapter 1946: Summer Hall Side Story (148)
"Mom, Johnson doesn’t know about this."
As soon as Edward said this, both Evelyn and Helen were noticeably surprised.
From the start, including Elly, everyone thought that when Edward secretly helped Johnson erase those traces, it must have been at Johnson’s request. Who would’ve thought Johnson didn’t even know?
The mother and daughter maintained the same expression looking at Edward, and after some time, Helen said:
"Big brother, doing good deeds quietly like this won’t win over the girl you fancy."
Evelyn nodded in agreement beside her.
"I don’t need her to know."
Edward blurted out, then paused and corrected himself, "No, Johnson and I aren’t in the kind of relationship you think."
After speaking, he couldn’t help but furrow his brow, feeling like the more he explained, the more suspicious it seemed.
Evelyn and Helen still kept their consistent gaze on him, not saying a word.
The look in their eyes was somewhat hard to describe.
It seemed to say, "Go on, keep bluffing."
Edward felt uncomfortable being stared at by his mother and sister, instinctively touched the tip of his nose, about to find something to talk about to avoid it, but Helen said:
"Big brother, you haven’t even chased Johnson, of course, you’re not in the kind of relationship we think."
Edward: "..."
Is it too late to send this sister away now?
He looked at Helen with a "better be kind" expression, and Helen looked back at him fearlessly.
Evelyn chimed in:
"Son, mom doesn’t mind you cleaning up after the girl you fancy, but at the very least, you should let her know what you’ve done for her, otherwise, what’s the point of doing so much?"
Edward furrowed his brows without speaking, falling silent for a moment before finally saying:
"I help her not because I need her gratitude."
"Then what do you want?"
"I don’t need anything."
Edward looked away from his mother and sister’s scrutinizing gazes, speaking with solemn righteousness.
Evelyn directly laughed at him twice, saying:
"The big CEO Edward, who’s full of the smell of capitalism, has started doing good deeds without expecting anything in return."
Edward: "..."
"Big brother, although we haven’t known each other long, I know you’re not a good person."
The implication was that the self-serving big brother must want something from Johnson.
Edward: "..."
"Big brother, you don’t expect anything in return, you just want her body."
Edward: "..." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Seeing his lips pressed into a sharp line, he looked at Helen for a long time, then suddenly turned to his mother and asked:
"Where’s Harry?"
"He’s upstairs playing chess with your dad, do you need him for something?"
"Have him come down and take his wife away."
Evelyn picked up the coffee spoon beside her and threw it at Edward.
"You little rascal, your sister just arrived, and you want to send her away? Tired of living, huh?"
Edward dodged the "hidden weapon" Evelyn threw at him deftly, adjusted his clothes, and saw Helen looking seriously at him, saying sternly:
"Big brother, you’re embarrassed and angry now, I take back what I said before, you’re not after Johnson’s body."
Edward: "..."
"You’re after her soul."
Edward: "..."
He truly felt foolish, from the start, he shouldn’t have acknowledged this troublesome sister.
After a self-analysis akin to a fictional character’s introspection, Edward looked at Helen, calmly asking:
"Did Elly say anything to Johnson, did she tell you?"
