Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 88: If There Is No Path, I Will Find a Way to Make One
"It’s a wonderful age, indeed. But I want to tell you, the road ahead for you and Xiao Xi will not be easy."
"If there is no road, I will forge one myself."
Auntie Shen looked at Xue Yang. In that moment, she was awestruck by the spirited young man, suddenly certain that he would one day carve out his own path.
Lin Xi poked her head out of her room, a pen still in hand. "Auntie Shen, don’t you dare pick on Xue Yang when I’m not looking."
"Oh, Xiao Xi is getting protective. An old woman like me is just making small talk. Matters of the heart are for you young people to decide."
Xue Yang looked at Lin Xi. She was dressed now—and very modestly at that.
And yet, his mind was flooded with a vision of pure, white skin... Hmm, whether she was dressed or not, it seemed to make little difference to him now.
Xue Yang averted his gaze and stood up. "Lin Xi, you and Auntie Shen should stay in the master bedroom for the next few days. I’ll clean up the secondary bedroom and stay there. Just call me if you need anything."
Auntie Shen was privately pleased that Xue Yang had offered to stay in the secondary bedroom. If the young miss had insisted on sleeping with him, it would have been difficult for her to object.
"Alright," Lin Xi reluctantly agreed.
"It’s getting late, so... good night!"
"Good night!"
Lin Xi’s eyes followed Xue Yang until he entered the secondary bedroom and closed the door. Even then, she couldn’t bring herself to look away.
I can’t sleep without hugging Xue Yang tonight... After all this time, I’ve grown so used to him being by my side. This sudden separation is unbearable; I miss him so much. I’m definitely going to have insomnia tonight.
"Young Miss, if you crane your neck any further, it’s going to go right through the door."
"Auntie Shen, you’re making fun of me."
With that, Lin Xi ran back to her room, blushing.
Auntie Shen followed her in with a smile, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Young Miss, tell me, how did you and Xue Yang decide to get together?"
At the mention of it, Lin Xi’s mind flashed back to the harrowing experience at Xiangshan Ski Resort, and later, the electrifying moments in the hot spring during the power outage.
Lin Xi didn’t realize it, but she had the exact look of a young girl hopelessly in love.
Auntie Shen had been young once, too; she’d also had her wild, reckless days. In the end, however, a childhood sweetheart was no match for a newcomer. She had been joyfully planning her future with him, only for him to appear before her with another woman who was three months pregnant. He told her he didn’t want to leave her, but the woman was carrying his child, and his own mother had threatened suicide if he didn’t marry her. He claimed he had no choice.
It was only then that she realized she had been deluding herself all along; she had never been a part of his future. So, she decided never to pursue a man again. Instead, she would devote herself to raising the young miss, and if she was fortunate, she might even help raise her children one day...
Lin Xi hugged her comforter and began telling Auntie Shen about the incident at Xiangshan Ski Resort. "It was a weekend, and we decided to go skiing at Xiangshan Ski Resort. Halfway down the slope, an avalanche suddenly hit. Xue Yang grabbed my hand and pulled me along as we ran, with the wall of snow closing in on us from behind. I told him to let go and save himself, but he refused.
"Then we saw a large tree and took refuge beneath it, only to be buried by the snow. Xue Yang still held me tight, shielding me. His own body was pinned under the thick snow, but I was completely unharmed.
"He used his own body to create a small sanctuary for me. Right then, I told him that if we both survived, we should get together. After we were rescued, that’s what we decided."
When Xue Yang had mentioned it, his casual tone made Auntie Shen assume it was just a minor avalanche. Hearing Lin Xi’s account, however, revealed just how perilous the situation had been.
The most crucial part was that Xue Yang had been fully prepared to trade his life for Lin Xi’s, yet he showed no intention of taking any credit for it.
It was truly hard not to like a boy like that.
Thankfully, they were both rescued in the end.
Auntie Shen clasped her hands together and looked up at the ceiling, sincerely murmuring, "Thank heavens."
Late in the night, all was still.
Xue Yang lay on the bed in the secondary bedroom, his eyes wide open. Although the room was cluttered, Xue Yang had managed to tidy it enough to sleep. The bed, however, was too small and not very comfortable.
Most importantly, his beloved wasn’t by his side. It was lonely.
If he had never embraced the sun, he could have endured the cold.
He wondered, without its star, could the moon even sleep? In any case, this star couldn’t.
He stared at the ceiling, and it seemed to transform into Lin Xi’s face.
I guess Christmas is just going to pass by like this.
His hand strayed to the belt Lin Xi had given him. He hadn’t even taken it off to sleep.
It was an intimate gift from Lin Xi; of course, she should be the one to take it off.
Xue Yang sighed softly. "I just wonder when she’ll come to take it off."
"What do you want me to help you take off?"
Suddenly, a small head peeked in through the doorway, and Lin Xi’s voice reached his ears.
Am I hearing things? Xue Yang blinked.
The girl at the door crept inside, gently closing it behind her. After navigating through a maze of obstacles, she found the lonely boy, half-buried in a pile of clothes.
She lifted the blanket and crawled up from the foot of the bed, her path tracing his long legs. She finally grasped the "distressing" intimate object before emerging from under the covers to lie on top of him.
He still couldn’t quite believe the person in front of him was real.
"Are my dreams always this vivid?"
She gently blew a breath of air onto his face, filling the space between them with her unique, sweet scent.
"How’s the quality now?"
"It’d be even better if you kissed me."
Like a dragonfly skimming the water’s surface, she brushed a quick kiss against the corner of his lips.
"Now?"
His hand shot up and cupped the back of her head, pressing her lips firmly against his.
"Now *this* is a quality dream."
After the kiss, the two held each other tightly, like finding a warm stove in a world of ice and snow.
"Couldn’t sleep without this beautiful girl here to warm your bed, could you?"
"Definitely not. Without someone to warm the blankets, it’s not the same at all."
"How could you possibly live without me?"
"I wouldn’t."
So, please don’t ever leave me.
"They say saving a life is the greatest deed of all. This feeling is pretty nice."
"Aren’t you afraid of Auntie Shen catching you, coming over so late?"
"I’m not scared. I waited until Auntie Shen was sound asleep before sneaking over. I’ll head back in a bit. If she catches me, I’ll just say I was going to the bathroom."
"But there’s a bathroom in the master bedroom."
"Then I’ll just say the bathroom in the master bedroom didn’t feel right, and I preferred the one in the living room."
"You learn fast."
"Of course! You know who you’re dealing with!" The girl puffed up her chest, looking quite pleased with herself.
