Chapter 402: Chapter 400 Being Single Offline S

With the family’s only university student coming home, the Xue Family was busy from the crack of dawn. Those at home helped prepare lunch, while those who were away would return for dinner in the evening. As for those who were out of town, they had no choice but to call and express their regrets.

When Grandma Xue learned that Xue Yang was bringing home his future wife, she declared she would butcher extra chickens for the occasion. She even brought out the ones she raised herself. She couldn’t let her new granddaughter-in-law feel slighted.

"Xue Yang, why didn’t we take Lin Xi’s private jet?" Si Wen complained as soon as she settled into her first-class seat.

Xue Yang finished helping Lin Xi get settled before taking his own seat. "It’s just a normal trip home, and we already have tickets. There’s no need to take a private jet."

"Oh."

"I’ve already booked your hotel," Xue Yang said. "Someone from the staff will be there to pick you up. Just give me a call if you need anything."

Si Wen had already decided she wouldn’t intrude on the family gathering at Xue Yang’s home and would go directly to her hotel. "Thanks a lot."

"You’re welcome."

Xue Yang still didn’t know who she was meeting. But then again, it was probably none of his business.

Three hours later, the plane landed smoothly at Huicheng Airport.

"Quick, look! Those three are gorgeous. Especially those two walking together, it’s like a romance novel about a rich family coming to life."

"Seriously, handsome men belong with beautiful women. Even from this far away, I feel like I’m getting hit by their public display of affection."

Although three people were walking together, it was obvious at a glance that Xue Yang and Lin Xi were the couple.

"See? It’s always more fun watching other people be in love."

Xue Yuanqing, Zhong Hailan, and Xue Xing were already waiting anxiously at the arrivals gate.

"Honey, hurry and check if this is the right flight," Zhong Hailan urged Xue Yuanqing, craning her neck to see.

"It is."

"Quick, how do I look? Is anything out of place?" she asked nervously.

"You look great," Xue Yuanqing assured her. "How about me?"

Zhong Hailan, clutching a large bouquet of gardenias, gave him a once-over. "You’re fine. Hurry up and start looking; we don’t want to miss them."

Hearing his uncle and aunt fussing over their appearance, Xue Xing subconsciously checked his own clothes. Nothing seems out of place.

His eyes scanned the crowd, and he quickly spotted two familiar, striking figures. "I see my brother and sister-in-law!" he exclaimed, before taking off at a run.

"Hey, wait for us!"

"Bro, Sis-in-law, over here!"

Pushing the luggage cart, Xue Yang heard the shout and leaned toward Lin Xi. "That’s my little brother."

Lin Xi instinctively moved closer to Xue Yang. Am I about to meet his family?

"Don’t be nervous. They’re all very nice," Xue Yang reassured her.

Just as Xue Xing was about to reach them, someone stepped in his way. Staring at the stranger before him, he asked, confused, "And you are...?"

Wow, this girl is beautiful. In all his life, he’d never seen anyone so pretty in person. Still, as beautiful as she was, his sister-in-law was even more stunning.

"Xue Xing, so you don’t have time to reply to my messages, but you have time to come to the airport for a pickup, is that it?"

Xue Yang raised an eyebrow slightly. The person Si Wen was looking for is Xing Zai?

"You really didn’t know?" Lin Xi whispered.

"I honestly had no idea," Xue Yang said with a shrug.

"It happened one time when Si Wen was using your phone to play a game and ran into Xue Xing..." Lin Xi briefly explained their history, and understanding dawned on Xue Yang.

Si Wen’s personality was the complete opposite of Lin Xi’s; she was fiercely competitive and refused to admit defeat. Having lost to Xue Xing while using Xue Yang’s account, there was no way she would let it go. Si Wen wouldn’t rest until she won at least once.

Xue Xing frantically tried to explain himself. "Bro, I swear, I only played that one time! I haven’t played since; I haven’t even touched my phone! And you... who are you?"

"She’s my best friend," Lin Xi explained at the perfect moment.

Si Wen was about to explode. So, I sent him all those messages, and he doesn’t even remember who I am?

"So you really have no memory of who I am, do you!" she roared.

Her shout made Xue Xing’s ears ring. "That game was ages ago! How am I supposed to remember?"

Xue Xing felt truly wronged. He had just logged on casually for one round that day and ended up getting targeted. His studies had been so intense lately, with mountains of practice problems to do every day, that he had completely forgotten about the incident. Who knew she would remember it so clearly? He never expected her to hunt him down in person for a rematch.

Don’t people only get treated this way if they’re a terrible player? But I wasn’t bad at all!

"I don’t care. Now that I’m here, you have to compensate me."

"Big Sister, I’m just a high school student. How can I possibly compensate you?" Why do I have to compensate someone over a game?

"Play with me. Wait... did you just call me Big Sister?" Si Wen’s anger flared.

"You’re older than me, so shouldn’t I call you that?"

Si Wen grabbed Xue Xing’s ear. "I suggest you think of a different name for me."

Xue Xing grimaced in pain. "Sister, please, be gentle!"

Giving him a look that said, *That’s more like it*, Si Wen let go.

Xue Xing rubbed his sore ear. My sister-in-law is so gentle and beautiful, so why is her best friend so aggressive?

"You don’t have time for just one game?"

"Nope."

This person is so strange. Did she really come all this way just to play one game with me?

Ignoring Si Wen, Xue Xing turned to Lin Xi. "Sister-in-law, I’m Xue Xing. Do you remember me?"

Lin Xi’s eyes curved into a smile. "Of course, I remember you."

"You’re even prettier in person than on video calls," Xue Xing said, suddenly much more well-behaved. In front of Lin Xi, he was like a completely different person.

"Thank you," Lin Xi replied, trying to appear calm despite her nervousness.

Just then, Xue Yuanqing and Zhong Hailan finally navigated through the crowd and reached them.

"Xiao Xi."

Hearing the familiar voice, Lin Xi looked up to see a middle-aged couple approaching. They were Xue Yang’s parents, whom she had spoken with on video calls countless times. She had worried she would be nervous meeting them, but now that they were here, an unexpected feeling of warmth and familiarity washed over her.

"Uncle, Auntie..."

Zhong Hailan handed her the large bouquet of gardenias.

Gardenias. My favorite flower. Xue Yang must have told them, and they remembered.

Lin Xi gave Zhong Hailan a big hug. "Thank you, Auntie! The flowers are beautiful. I love them."

Zhong Hailan, who had been worried about making a good impression, finally relaxed at her reaction.

Stepping forward, Si Wen also put on her best behavior. "Hello, Uncle and Auntie. I’m a friend of Xiao Xi and Xue Yang."

"Hello, hello." Xiao Xi’s friend seems like a good kid, too.

"You all head back first," Xue Yuanqing suddenly said. "I just remembered I have something to take care of. I’ll be back later."
