Chapter 136: Chapter 135: Feeling Very Strange

Lin Xi’s eyes were red, as if pearly tears were about to fall at any moment.

"I was just joking. Why are you taking it so seriously? Do I look like the kind of person who would covet her best friend’s boyfriend?"

Biting her lip, Lin Xi said, "When you said that just now, you certainly did."

"Alright, alright, I was wrong. I’ll never make a joke like that again, so please don’t be like this."

"If you do it again, I’ll stop talking to you."

Lin Xi wasn’t worried that Si Wen would snatch Xue Yang away. She was upset because Si Wen could actually go and see him, while she herself temporarily couldn’t.

"Okay," Si Wen said, making an ’OK’ sign with her hand.

Love makes people blind and robs them of their ability to think. Si Wen decided that after the college entrance exams, she would find a boyfriend to play around with, too. She wanted to see if she would become as blind as Lin Xi.

Lin Xi pressed close to the glass window, her hands flat against its cool surface. From a certain angle, it looked as though she were caressing Xue Yang’s face. In truth, that was exactly what she wanted to do. It had been so, so long since she had last hugged him. She wanted to kiss him, to melt into his arms and be spoiled. She longed to eat the food he cooked and sleep beside him. She wanted to do all the boring and not-so-boring things with him.

Just then, Xue Yang, outside the window, seemed to sense something. His gaze shifted toward the cafe.

Lin Xi was startled. For a heart-stopping second, she felt as if he had seen her.

Xue Yang slowly walked toward the cafe’s large window. In its wide pane, he could only see his own reflection. He wasn’t looking at himself, though; he was trying to peer through the glass to see what was inside. He had the distinct feeling that someone was watching him. However, Xue Yang was bound to be disappointed. The quality of the cafe’s one-way glass was simply too good; he couldn’t see a thing inside.

"What’s wrong?" Jennifer asked from behind him. He knew Si Wen and Lin Xi were in that private room watching the shoot. It made him nervous, but knowing they were focused on Xue Yang, he didn’t feel too much pressure.

After a long moment, Xue Yang withdrew his gaze. "Nothing."

Jennifer breathed a sigh of relief, thinking Xue Yang had been about to blow their cover.

Inside the cafe, Lin Xi and Si Wen also let out a sigh of relief when they saw Xue Yang look away. "Let’s go. We should head back," Si Wen said.

Lin Xi nodded. They had been out for quite a while, and it was indeed time to return. She cast one last, reluctant look at Xue Yang, then gathered their things from the table and left the cafe.

Having changed back into his own clothes, Xue Yang approached his manager. "Jennifer, I suddenly feel like getting some coffee. Can we go inside and sit for a bit?"

Jennifer was momentarily taken aback before smiling. "Sure. Let’s go, it’s on me."

Xue Yang wasn’t a fool. He knew that declining now would be a dead giveaway.

Jennifer led Xue Yang into the cafe, his heart pounding. As long as we don’t go into that private room, it should be fine, right? He deliberately tried to lead Xue Yang to a different section, hoping to avoid the private room Lin Xi and her friend had occupied.

However, upon entering the cafe, Xue Yang made a beeline straight for it. "Xue Yang, let’s just grab a table in the main hall. We don’t need a private room."

Xue Yang seemed not to hear him. He continued forward, desperate to confirm something. Finally, he found the room and quickened his pace.

"Xue Yang..."

He had already pushed the door open. The moment he did, a familiar scent wafted out, causing him to frown slightly. This scent... it’s so familiar! He no longer hesitated, pushing the door wide open and hurrying inside.

The familiar aroma was even stronger now. Yet, alongside that familiar scent, there seemed to be another fragrance. Lin Xi, is that you? But if it is, why did you come here and not see me? 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Xue Yang walked over to the window. The sky hadn’t darkened yet, and from here, the view of the street outside was perfectly clear. He wasn’t so sure anymore. He pulled out his phone and navigated to Lin Xi’s contact. After hesitating for a long while, he finally steeled himself and pressed the call button. As he watched the screen display "Calling...", his heart pounded erratically. This was the first time he had found the resolve to call her since she had left.

He pictured her answering the phone. She would probably be overjoyed, pestering him with all sorts of questions. Or maybe she would be upset, asking why it had taken him so long to call.

However, a recorded voice came from the phone instead: *"Sorry, the subscriber you dialed is powered off."*

Powered off! Lin Xi’s phone was turned off.

She must be in class, he reassured himself.

"Xue Yang, what kind of coffee would you like?" Seeing that Miss Lin Xi and Si Wen had already left, Jennifer finally let out a quiet sigh of relief. Just moments ago, he had nearly been scared out of his wits. If Xue Yang had looked at him then, he would have surely noticed that his face had turned pale with anxiety.

"It’s pretty expensive here. I think I’ll pass. I just wanted to take a look inside. After shooting all day, I’m tired and want to go back and rest."

"Okay, I’ve already arranged for a car for you."

"Thanks, Jennifer. But I don’t want to go back to the dorms tonight. I’d like to stay at my rented apartment and go back to school tomorrow."

"No problem. Just tell the driver where you want to go, and he’ll take you."

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome. I have to stay and wrap things up here, so I won’t be able to see you off."

"I can get down myself."

"Okay. I’ll send the license plate number to your QQ in a bit."

"Thanks!"

Xue Yang left the cafe and took the elevator down to the ground floor. Jennifer’s message arrived just as he did. Following the license plate number, Xue Yang found the car from the fashion brand—a rather upscale-looking van. It was similar to the ones celebrities often used, with a spacious interior that could double as a mobile changing room.

The driver, a man in his fifties, saw Xue Yang approaching and rolled down the window to greet him. "Hello, Mr. Xue. Please, get in."

Xue Yang opened the door and climbed inside. The van pulled away smoothly. After giving the driver the address, Xue Yang leaned back in his seat and fell silent. He was exhausted from the long day of shooting, but his mind was racing. I should have asked for Si Wen’s contact information. She would definitely know how Lin Xi is doing.

「On a main road in Yanbei, an eye-catching Bentley cruised smoothly.」

"Take me somewhere else before we go home," a voice instructed from the back seat.

"Yes, Young Miss," the driver replied.

At the next intersection, the Bentley executed a U-turn and headed in a different direction.

The car turned a two-hour bus ride into a one-hour trip, and soon Xue Yang was back at his rented apartment. He stood on the street below, looking up at the windows on the eighth floor.

That was the master bedroom.
